There is no natural law runs out of the order and will of God (as defended by Deism). Therefore, for them, miracle is always a real experience and unseparable part of daily life. Miracle is not something irrational. On the contrary, ancient reason provides justifications for its occurency. Certainly, this conviction as a mythological interpretation that is being applied toward the facts which actually are ordinary and natural. Commonly, such mythological interpretations were generally proposed by the writers of holy books (scripture) long after the actual events, all of which, however was normal and natural. All miraculous stories in the holy books are entirely imaginary narratives which were codified post actum or post eventum, long after the unsensational actual events, and were built with religious apologetical or propagandistic purposes, rather than reporting the historical facts as they were. At their hand, the history is under religious-political apologies and propaganda. Bagi mereka alam berjalan karena semuanya diatur dan ditentukan dengan bebas oleh Allah. Tidak ada hukum alam yang berjalan mandiri terlepas dari pengaturan dan kehendak Allah (sebagaimana dipertahankan deisme di zaman modern). Karena itu, mukjizat senantiasa merupakan pengalaman nyata dan keadaan yang tak terpisah dari kehidupan sehari-hari. Bagi mereka, mukjizat bukanlah hal yang tak masuk ke dalam nalar mereka. Namun sebaliknya, nalar manusia kuno membutuhkan dan memberi tempat bagi terjadinya mukjizat. Tentu saja, jika menurut mereka mukjizat telah terjadi, pendapat mereka ini adalah sebuah interpretasi mitologis atas fakta-fakta yang seluruhnya normal dan kodrati saja. Umumnya berbagai macam interpretasi mitologis ini diajukan para penulis kitab-kitab suci pada masa jauh sesudah kejadian-kejadian yang sebenarnya, yang normal dan kodrati semata. Semua kisah mukjizat dalam kitab-kitab suci adalah kisah-kisah imajiner yang disusun post actum atau post eventum, jauh sesudah kejadian sebenarnya yang tidak sensasional, dengan tujuan-tujuan apologetik atau demi propaganda keagamaan, bukannya melaporkan fakta-fakta sejarah apa adanya. Di tangan mereka, sejarah ditaklukkan seluruhnya pada apologetika dan propaganda religio-politik. There are several important issues that would be discussed. What is ta’wīl ? Is it distinguished from interpretations either contrast to the exoteric meaning? Why do we need ta’wīl ? Is the interpretation alone is enough ? How does the process ? It would also attempt to explain the three important issues of ta’wīl; first, the definition of ta’wīl according to Mulla Sadra. Second, to explain the foundation of ta’wīl. Third, to describe the two methods that might be used in ta’wīl. For Sadra, as internal meaning, ta’wīl does not eradicate or invalidate the outward meaning of the verse, rather it is the complement aspect. It becomes evident that sacred texts (al- Qur’an and hadīth) have different levels of meaning. Thus, in the process of ta’wīl , there are two important methods that might be used, i.e., the sufistic method and the method of the outward-inward meaning. Keywords : Ta’wīl, intepretation, outward, inward, sharī’a texts, levels, spirit of meaning Abstrak : Tulisan ini mencoba menjelaskan tentang takwil dalam pandangan Mulla Sadra. Beberapa persoalan akan dibahas, di antaranya: Apakah yang dimaksud dengan takwil? Apakah takwil berbeda dengan tafsir? Apakah menakwil berarti memahami teks bertentangan dengan makna lahiriyahnya? Mengapa kita membutuhkan takwil? Tidakkah cukup dengan tafsir saja? Bagaimana bentuk proses penakwilan yang mungkin dilakukan? Tulisan ini juga akan memaparkan tiga persoalan penting dalam takwil: Pertama, tentang definisi takwil dalam pandangan Sadra; kedua, mengenai fondasi takwil. Ketiga, mengenai dua metode yang mungkin digunakan dalam takwil. Dalam pandangan Sadra, takwil tidak bertentangan dengan lahir ayat, namun melengkapi dan penyempurnakan makna lahir tersebut. Takwil dibutuhkan karena teks-teks syariah (al-Qur’an dan hadis) memiliki tingkatan-tingkatan. Dalam proses takwil, ada dua metode penting yang mungkin digunakan, yaitu metode sufistik dan metode teknik pemaknaan lahir-batin. This Sufi Master of Andalusia refuses the ta’wīl controlled by reasoning, reflection, thinking, and desire because such ta’wīl deviates from what God meant by His words contained by His Book. But he accepts the ta’wīl guided by God through intuitive unveiling (kashf), that is, the ta’wīl bestowed by God to those whom He gave success in understanding what God meant by His words contained by His Book. This ta’wīl, which is advocated by Ibn ’Arabi, maintains the coformity between the outward meaning and inward meaning. Keywords :  Teosophical tasawwuf, ta’wil, categorical signs (āyāt muhkamāt), analogical signs (āyāt  mutashābihāt), correspondence, similarity, bestowal Abstrak : Artikel ini adalah sebuah usaha untuk menganalisis pandangan Ibn ‘Arabi tentang takwil al-Qur’an. Syekh Sufi dari Andalusia ini menolak takwil yang dikendalikan oleh penalaran, pemikiran, refleksi dan hawa nafsu karena takwil jenis ini melenceng dari apa yang dimaksud oleh Allah dengan kata-kata-Nya yang dikandung oleh Kitab-Nya. Tetapi ia menerima takwil yang dibimbing oleh Allah melalui penyingkapan intuitif (kasyf), yaitu takwil yang dianugerahkan oleh Allah kepada orang-orang yang diberi-Nya keberhasilan dalam memahami apa yang Dia maksud dengan kata-kata yang dikandung oleh Kitab-Nya. Takwil yang didukung oleh Ibn ‘Arabi ini tetap mempertahankan kesesuaian antara arti lahiriah dan arti batiniah. Hermeneutical task formulation is an extension of the previous task that is still being in the spirit of reconstruction of a new reading of religious texts. Al-Qur’an as discourse claimed as an attempt upon an extension way of reading with the whole spirit of construction over again. This Heremeneutical task is potentially burden the establishment, and controversial but it is certain. For Ricoeur, time becomes human’s time when it is organized in a narrative. Narrative becomes meaningful when it portrays the feature of temporal experience. h  e present article tries to show that a narrative requires an interpretation. Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutics consists of two stages, distanciation and appropriation. Distanciation enables the reader to study the text critically and then it must be followed by a post-critical reading where the reader appropriates the world opened to him. In the words of Gadamer, in the process of interpretation, the horizon of the text fuses with the horizon of the reader. In reading a narrative, the identity as ipse and as idem interacts each other. h  e narrative ethics does not contradict with the normative ethics, later gives validation to the former one. In the case of a conflict, then responsibility shoud be the priority. Bagi Ricouer, waktu menjadi waktu manusia ketika ia dirangkai dalam suatu cerita naratif. Sebuah narasi bermakna jika ia melukiskan ciri-ciri pengalaman yang temporal. Artikle ini mencoba memperlihatkan bahwa sebuah cerita naratif membutuhkan interpretasi. Hermeneutika Paul Ricouer terdiri dari dua langkah, distansiasi dan apropriasi. Distansiasi memungkinkan pembaca untuk mempelajari teks secara kritis dan mesti dilanjutkan dengan pembacaan post-kritis di mana pembaca meng- apropriasi dunia yang terbuka padanya. Meminjam ungkapan Gadamer, dalam proses interpretasi, horizon teks melebur dengan horizon pembaca. Dalam membaca sebuah cerita naratif, identitas sebagai ipse dan sebagai idem  saling berinteraksi. Etika naratif tidaklah kontradiktif dengan etika normatif. Etika normatif memvalidasi etika naratif. Jika terjadi kontradiksi, maka tanggungjawablah yang menjadi prioritas. This  distinctive mode of epistemology invited numerous questions, especially for those who were influenced by  empirical - positivistic points of view. How it could be and how is it scientifically responsible. For them, this mode of knowledge is assumed as “unreal”, and is impossible to being scientific, let alone objectively recognized for its reliability. This article attempts to respond to that challenge or perhaps “accusation”, while stressing the point on two aspects: fi rst, exposition of characteristics of sufi  epistemology that seem so different from Western mode of epistemology (rationalism or empiricism), and second, trying to rationalize the reality of sufi  spiritual experiences as being scientifically responsible. Keywords : Divine knowledge, Unveiling, Dhawq, Imaginal world Abstrak : Karakteristik pengetahuan atau epistemologi sufi didasarkan pada penggunaan intuisi dan realitas dunia spiritual yang hanya bisa dialami oleh kaum sufi. Kekhasan model epistemologi ini membuat banyak orang, terutama mereka yang terpengaruh oleh pandangan positivisme - empirik, bertanya-tanya tentang bagaimana mungkin hal itu bisa terjadi, dan bagaimana pula mempertanggungjawabkannya secara ilmiah. Bagi mereka yang berpandangan positivistik, model pengetahuan khas kaum sufi dianggap “tidak nyata”, dan karenanya tidak mungkin bisa diilmiahkan, apalagi diakui kebenarannya secara objektif. Tulisan ini menjawab tantangan atau mungkin “tuduhan” itu, dengan memberikan penekanan yang kuat terhadap dua hal, yaitu pertama, menjelaskan karakteristik epistemologi sufi yang tampak berbeda dengan model epistemologi Barat (rasionalisme maupun empirisme), dan kedua, usaha merasionalkan realitas pengalaman spiritual kaum sufi sebagai tuntutan tanggung jawab ilmiah. Stace and William James. Some of the issues will be outlined in this article, that is whether the absolute can be expressed ? If wahdāh al-wujūd (unity of being) asserts absoluteness, does this mean that there is no language that can describe it ? Then what exactly is the meaning of innefability ? What does it mean that the experience of wahdāh al-wujūd can not be conceptualized, nor can it be described, nor can it be logical ? If so, where then do words such as innefability, paradox and ‘absolute’ originate from? What does it mean that this is unattainable by reason? This work will reveal that the experience of the absolutely wahdāh al-wujūd can be expressed generally not in detail, by means that diff ers from peripatetic logic. Beberapa persoalan yang akan diuraikan dalam tulisan ini adalah apakah absolut dapat diekspresikan ? jika wahdāh al-wujūd melazimkan keabsolutan apakah hal ini berarti bahwa tak ada bahasa yang dapat menggambarkan konsep wahdāh al-wujūd ? lalu apa sebenarnya makna dari innefabilitas ? apakah maksudnya bahwa pengalaman irfani wahdāh al-wujūd tidak bisa dikonsepsikan, ataukah tidak bisa dipahami, ataukah tidak bisa dilogikakan ? jika demikian, lalu kata seperti tak terbatas, tak terhingga, paradoks, dan kata ‘absolut’ ini muncul dari mana ? apakah maksud dari innefabilitas bahwa akal tak mampu menjangkaunya karena sudah diluar tapal batas akal? tulisan ini ingin menunjukkan bahwa pengalaman irfani wahdāh al-wujūd yang absolut dan tak terbatas dapat diekspresikan secara global namun tidak secara terperinci, namun akal yang digunakan bukan lagi akal paripatetik. If the answer is positive, what kind of language can ‘formulate’ an inner space of human experience to penetrate into the heart of the most real reality? What kind of consciousness can “bring” the light of God to the ‘empirical’ world? h en how to formulate a mystical consciousness in expressing spiritual experience that is “subjective” and therefore, has limitations? How, in  fact,  the  status  of  “non-subjective  phenomenal” consciousness in Islamic epistemology? h e above questions, of course, are just a small ripple for those who seek to dive into the depth of “Mystical Ocean without shore”. To  give an answer, this article then presents two contemporary philosophers from the genre of analytic philosophy, but from a diff erent background from that of tradition: Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951)  and  Mehdi Ha’iri  Yazdi  (1923  to  1999).  h is  article appears to be a “resistance” epistemic: to show the fragile philosophical structure of positivism to capture the invisible ‘realities’. h is last genre of philosophy, which is concerned mostly with the reliability of facts, the necessity correspondence between the facts and language, and glorifi es the verifi cation principles, has experienced “stutters” in every endeavor to reveal the world of meaning. h is article, also seeks reveal the way to the world of “experience” and does not stop at the world of knowledge. By adopting the approach of Analytic Philosophy, this article shows the folds of meaning and reality: empirical, meta-empirical, existential, and spiritual.  For  the  author,  the  all  layers  of  reality  can  only  be  revealed through a mystical experience, a presential knowledge (al-’ilm al-hudhūrī) in a perfect ontological state. Jika jawabnya positif, bahasa jenis apakah yang bisa ‘merumuskan’ sebuah pengalaman inner space manusia hingga menembus ke jantung realitas yang paling sejati? Kesadaran jenis apakah yang mampu “menghadirkan” cahaya Tuhan ke dunia ‘empiris’? Lalu bagaimana merumuskan sebuah kesadaran mistik dalam ungkapan- ungkapan pengalaman keruhanian yang bersifat “subyektif ” dan karena itu memiliki keterbatasan-keterbatasan? Bagaimana sejatinya posisi kesadaran “subyektif-non fenomenal” dalam bangunan epistemologi Islam? Deretan pertanyaan di atas, tentu hanyalah riak kecil dari gelombang tanya yang ingin menyelami kedalaman “lautan mistik” yang tak bertepi. In his own style thought about the sufis, placing an emphasis upon the strong relations between the walāyah (sufi  sainthood) and the ma`rifa (sufi knowledge) in the one side, and between the two a philosophy of Sufi Ethics. So, it is nothing out of the ordinary to fi nd his ethical inclinations as a dominant feature in every aspect of his epistemological thoughts. In addition, sufi epistemology in the perspective of philosophers focuses on enforcing the inner positive potents of the Self more so than to eliminate “the satanic influences” to the heart, because – in al-Tirmidzi’s argument is that the former would greatly improve the immunity of the self, and encourage it to tread consistently on the right path as well. Keywords :  Dhawq, eros, heart, exoteric, esoteric, al-Haqq, al-`Adl, al-Shidq Abstrak : Artikel ini membahas istilah-istilah epistemologi dan beberapa postulat dari seorang sufi terkenal abad ke-9, Abu `Abdu’lLahMuh ammad b.`Ali al-Hakim al-Tirmidzi, dalam upaya menggambarkan perjalanan suluk seorang sufi menuju Realitas Mutlak. Dalam gaya pemikirannya tentang sufi, kita menemukan bahwa figur ini cenderung  menekankan hubungan-hubungan yang kuat antara wal āyah (kewalian sufi) dan ma‘rifa (pengetahuan sufi) di satu sisi, dan antara keduanya dengan filsafat moral sufi.  Jadi, tidak aneh jika kita menemukan kecenderungan - kecenderungan etis yang dominan dalam setiap aspek  pemikiran epistemologinya. Dan epistemologi sufi dalam perspektif para filsuf lebih menekankan potensi inner Diri yang positif daripada menghapuskan “cara-cara syaitan” dalam hati, karena - menurut pendapat al-Tirmidzi – ia akan meningkatkan kekebalan diri, dan juga mendorongnya untuk tetap berada di jalan yang lurus. Salah satu alasan mengapa masalah ini tidak pernah terselesaikan adalah bahwa ia memiliki banyak makna dan muncul dalam konteks yang berbeda. Pandangan yang menekankan imanensi dalam satu konteks mungkin menekankan transendensi pada konteks lain. Arti keduanya pun sangat tergantung pada asumsi metafisik mereka yang biasanya secara tidak sadar menggunakannya. Dua sisi yang saling terkait dan bergantung satu sama lain ini pasti hadir di konsep pikiran, jika hubungan antara Allah dan alam semesta, Realitas dan penampilan, benar-benar untuk dipahami. Karena ketiadaanlah bahwa Allah digambarkan sebagai transenden (tanzīh), dan karena keberadaan sehingga Ia dikenal sebagai imanen (tashbīh). Dua aspek Tuhan, transenden dan imanen diringkaskan oleh Ibn ‘Arabi melalui pendekatan ayat Qur’an (42:11). Pakar sejarah agama, peneliti dan mistikus berpegang pada prinsip ini juga dan meyakini bahwa apa yang disebut sebagai “logika panggilan” memiliki dua sisi fungsi yang berarti. Menurut logika ini, seseorang harus mengklasifikasikan panggilan nabi pada kesatuan atau pluralitas seperti dalam kategorisasi panggilan transenden, imanen atau transenden-imanen, dan akibatnya adalah agama Ilahiah akan diperspesi dari sisi ini pula. “Fuzzy logic” atau logika fuzzy dipahami berdasarkan preposisi yang paradoks dari berbagai penjelasan dan analisa mistis. Kata kunci : Logika fuzzy, Transenden, Imanen, Teologi fuzzy, Paradox Abstract : The issue of immanence and transcendence is crucial for religious thought. One reason why that is never resolved is that it has so many meanings and turns up in so many different contexts. A view may emphasize immanence in one context and emphasize transcendence in another. What the terms mean depends in part on the metaphysical assumptions, usually unconscious, of those who use them. According to Ibn al-Arabī, these two mutually dependent sides must constantly be borne in mind, if the relationship between God and universe, Reality and appearance, is to be truly understood. It is because of nonexistence that God is described as transcendent (tanzīh), and because of existence that He is known as immanent (tashbīh). The two aspects of God, transcendence and immanence, are summarized for Ibn al-‘Arabī by the Qur’anic verse “There is nothing like Him, and He is the Hearer, the Seer” (42.11). The religious-historians and researchers and alongside them some mystics insist on it and according to it they consider the logic of the call as a function of the two-valued logic (transcendence or immanence). According to this logic one must classify the call of the divine prophets based on their emphasis upon the unity or plurality in three categories of Transcendental calls, Similar calls and Transcendent-Imminent (T-I) calls and as a result consider the face of divine religions necessarily either Transcendental or Similar or T-I.
