Dietary intake, as a modifiable determinant, has elicited considerable interest due to its prospective role in preventing and alleviating sarcopenia. Methods: this investigation employed Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis, a robust statistical method, to investigate the causal associations between dietary consumption and sarcopenia-associated phenotypes, including appendicular lean mass (ALM), hand grip strength, and walking pace. Genetic variants extracted from the extensive UK Biobank cohort served as instrumental variables for a comprehensive set of 26 dietary elements. Results: our MR analysis unveiled that the ingestion of oily fish and cheese was significantly correlated with augmented ALM, diminished risk of low hand grip strength, and enhanced walking pace. In addition, cooked vegetables, fresh fruit, dried fruit, cereal, and raw vegetables were protective of one or both of the sarcopenia-associated phenotypes. These findings were robust to potential confounding influences owing to the sophisticated MR design. Conclusions: our results underscore that specific dietary constituents play a pivotal protective role against sarcopenia, underscoring the necessity for tailored nutritional strategies to bolster muscle health in the elderly. Further investigations are requisite to corroborate these findings across heterogeneous populations and to unravel the underlying biological mechanisms.</p>","PeriodicalId":19385,"journal":{"name":"Nutricion hospitalaria","volume":" ","pages":"48-56"},"PeriodicalIF":2.5,"publicationDate":"2025-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142471154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Colombia, no tool allows to detect the people most susceptible to develop emotional intake. Objective: to validate the Emotional Intake Questionnaire-Garaulet in a student population of the National University of Colombia. Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive observational study was conducted with a convenience sample of students in all the University's campuses in two stages employing the Spanish and the Colombian questionnaires through e-mail. Two questions were included in the survey, to assess the emotions of sadness and anxiety; a linearity relationship was established with the cut-off scores to maintain proportionality and preserve the dimensions of the study phenomenon. Results: in phase 1, 1177 subjects participated, and in phase 2, 831 subjects participated. Of these, 63.6 % and 52.8 % were emotional and very emotional eaters in the Colombian and Spanish versions, respectively. Taking the total amount of people, 22.3 % were emotional and very emotional eaters with body mass index > 25 kg/m². In addition, 4.7 % had an eating disorder and 14.2 % had a psychiatric disorder. Finally, sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values were 99.0 %, 49.3 %, 89.9 % and 91.2 %, respectively. Conclusions: the Colombian version of the Emotional Eating Questionnaire demonstrates acceptable validity and reliability compared to the Spanish version. A high prevalence of emotional eaters was observed in the university population, which could be detected early through the use of this questionnaire. Traditional DRM detection has relied on manual methods that lack accuracy and efficiency. Objective: this narrative review explores how artificial intelligence (AI), specifically machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL), can transform the prediction and management of DRM in clinical settings. Methods: we examine widely used ML and DL models, assessing their clinical applicability, advantages, and limitations. The integration of these models into electronic health record systems allows for automated risk detection and optimizes real-time patient management. Results: ML and DL models show significant potential for accurate assessment of nutritional status and prediction of complications in patients with DRM. These models facilitate improved clinical decision-making and more efficient resource management, although their implementation faces challenges related to the need for large volumes of standardized data and integration with existing systems. Conclusion: AI offers promising prospects for proactive DRM management, highlighting the need for interdisciplinary collaboration to overcome existing barriers and maximize its positive impact on patient care.</p>","PeriodicalId":19385,"journal":{"name":"Nutricion hospitalaria","volume":" ","pages":"173-183"},"PeriodicalIF":2.5,"publicationDate":"2025-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143052749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective: to evaluate the NRI as a prognostic factor while considering other variables, including nutritional parameters, comorbidities, and the Barthel Index. Although mortality was the primary outcome, we will clarify this to avoid any confusion. Methods: a cohort of 80 Chinese trauma patients, aged 30-69 years, was analyzed through prospective data collection at admission and post-discharge, covering mortality, nutritional factors, and prognostic indicators. The average observation period was 5.83 months, with an average admission age of 45.6 years. Results: this study examined the relationship between nutritional parameters, trauma, and their effects on mortality and survival. The 6-month survival rate was 93 %, and a correlation was noted between mortality risk and patients with Nutritional Risk Index (NRI) scores greater than 96. However, those with severe risk (NRI < 83.5) did not show a significant association with mortality, possibly due to a small sample size (n = 4), suggesting the need for larger studies to further explore this relationship. The Cox proportional hazard analysis identified older age, lower NRI scores, and specific comorbidities like ischemic heart disease, chronic kidney disease, and hypertension as significant mortality risk factors. Additionally, types of fractures, particularly radius and ulna and vertebral fractures, were linked to higher mortality. Lower Barthel Index scores at admission and discharge were significant predictors of mortality; however, deceased patients often had higher BI scores, indicating that a low BI cannot be universally regarded as a risk factor. Conclusion: overall, the findings emphasize that older age, lower NRI scores, and comorbidities are critical predictors of mortality in trauma patients, while the relationship between the Barthel Index and outcomes requires further clarification.</p>","PeriodicalId":19385,"journal":{"name":"Nutricion hospitalaria","volume":" ","pages":"97-104"},"PeriodicalIF":2.5,"publicationDate":"2025-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142687773","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
