The gross and fine motor skills are strongly related to several cognitive development mainstays of children. In this line, we present a tool aimed at providing a set of interactive rehabilitation exercises delivered to children with disabilities through the support of a virtual robotic assistant. Our proposal relies on several activities described in the Gross Motor Function Measure and has been evaluated with the support of a team of experts in the special education area.","PeriodicalId":191471,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE World Conference on Engineering Education (EDUNINE)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114519924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to the Flipped Learning Network community, the flipped learning is \"a pedagogical model that transfers direct instruction from the group to the individual space\". A flipped classroom consists of two spaces: individual learning and dynamic group learning and interaction. In this context, this document presents the preliminary diagnosis of the time that undergraduate and graduate students would spend on learning in their individual space. The observation was made during the first semester of 2019 at the College of Industrial and Systems Engineering of the National University of Engineering.","PeriodicalId":191471,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE World Conference on Engineering Education (EDUNINE)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129608747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, based on the content of the study program, examples and exercises with simulations were developed for each section of the proposed manual. Such sections are: Perceptron, Linear, Multilayer, Self-organized, Recurrent and Radial Base Function. In addition, vectors and matrices operations were introduced to understand the processing of the neural network, and the representation of the activation functions for the process of inhibition and excitation. Likewise, the examples and exercises followed a similar scheme; first the choice of the characteristics of the neural network used, followed by the training process, and ending with the test and verification. Likewise, the applications were oriented to pattern recognition, modeling and prediction.","PeriodicalId":191471,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE World Conference on Engineering Education (EDUNINE)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122425914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The participants were 102 university students (92 women (90.2%) and 10 men (9.8%)) between 19 and 56 years old ($M_{age} =26.39, SD = 7.75$). One concludes, the agential engagement ($r =.41, (mathrm{p}lt).001$), the behavioral engagement ($r =.25, (mathrm{p}lt).05$), the emotional engagement ($r =.24, (mathrm{p}lt).001$), and the cognitive engagement ($r =.41, (mathrm{p}lt).001$) are related with academic performance variable. Finally, the analysis of multiple lineal regressions shows the agential engagement ($beta =.27, (mathrm{p}lt).05$) and cognitive engagement ($beta =.32, (mathrm{p}lt).05$) predict positively the academic performance. But, behavioral engagement ($beta =-.03, (mathrm{p}gt).05$) and emotional engagement ($beta =-.09, (mathrm{p}gt).05$) do not predict the academic performance.","PeriodicalId":191471,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE World Conference on Engineering Education (EDUNINE)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127015118","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the course, a way of introducing students to these relationship is promoting active learning through community service. Our implementation of service learning differs from academic credit for volunteer work, requiring that the service work done must be related to classroom concepts. In this paper we present four capstone courses projects developed by students in Informatics Engineering (loosely defined as a mix of Computing Science and Software engineering in our University). Each project is based in real society needs, some of them obtained by interviewing potential users and some from requirements published by government agencies. The service learning approach provides an interdisciplinary experience that combines analysis, implementation, design, and testing while helping students learn experimental skills not introduced in previous laboratories.","PeriodicalId":191471,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE World Conference on Engineering Education (EDUNINE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128222713","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this reason it was sought that the student learn by playing, imparting knowledge through the language they best handle and using the technology that young people currently use without complications. This article seeks to determine the influence of gamification in the learning of the subject of Algorithms I of the University of Sciences and Humanities in the 2019-01 semester through an applied research, of a quasi-experimental type. The analysis of data was performed through the U test of Mann Whitney determining that there are significant differences between the study groups. The use of the gamificación methodology decreased the dropout rate in the course, improved the cognitive results and student motivation during the study sessions.","PeriodicalId":191471,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE World Conference on Engineering Education (EDUNINE)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128615485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
