This project aims to build an iOS mobile application to facilitate the vocabulary learning of such languages for English speaking children. Currently, two Indian languages, namely Punjabi and Hindi, are used as the testbed and therefore the mobile application is called ClickIndia but its scalable architecture allows to incorporate other languages including endangered languages in the future. The goal is to take advantage of smartphone technologies and constructivist principles of learning to allow users to easily master commonly used Indian vocabulary words. ClickIndia provides multi-sensory learning experience via multimedia presentation of vocabulary words using audio, text and pictures. Category-based vocabulary word list is formed to build a connection between word and group for faster learning. Also, social context is incorporated in learning environment by using location detection feature to teach location-specific vocabulary. Further, it uses the novel concept of machine learning object recognition technology to develop an engaging vocabulary learning game. The game-oriented learning keeps users motivated to learn more by performing tasks to construct their own knowledge. Moreover, ClickIndia generates crowdsourced picture tagging, i.e., pictures clicked by users are stored on the cloud to build a tagged picture dataset to be incorporated in future release. Overall, ClickIndia promotes self-management and construction of knowledge by engaging users in a multimedia learning environment.","PeriodicalId":172046,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Education and Multimedia Technology","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116970451","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Project-based learning has been explored in different contexts and at different stages of school education, from primary and secondary schools to higher education, and has achieved good teaching results. However, project teaching often lasts for a long period and is quite flexible, so it is difficult to cover most of the course knowledge. In new curriculum system, the class hours are greatly compressed, which makes it difficult for teachers to carry out the project teaching effectively. This paper designed a series of micro-projects based on sticky theory by taking the course “Optical Communication System and Network” as an example to facilitate the core knowledge of the course. The paper first introduces the design methods of micro-projects based on content stickiness, and designs the teaching mode of micro-projects based on pattern stickiness, and then applies the methods and the mode to teaching practice. The teaching results show that students have improved their abilities in some aspects, and gained a great sense of achievement in learning.","PeriodicalId":172046,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Education and Multimedia Technology","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127663630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This qualitative study looks at a context where students make decisions for a self-directed learning project and analyzes their dispositional, contextual, and situational experiences from the theoretical perspectives of achievement goal theory and identity status theory. We interviewed 7 students at the conclusion of their projects in a semi-structured format with interview questions based on the theoretical aspects of achievement goal theory and identity status theory. Our analysis of the student responses then identifies their needs during the decision-making process and discusses the implications for effective recommender system metrics. The discussion is shaped by the general aim of designing an educational recommender system that promotes exploratory behavior in students and our analysis reveals potential user types for the design of such a system along with relevant evaluation metrics.","PeriodicalId":172046,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Education and Multimedia Technology","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123982563","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The BTM provides an efficient numerical approach to create a low rank matrix from a single patch from an input image, which enables the recovery of missing pixels in the patch using matrix completion. Matrix completion is solved using weighted nuclear norm minimization with a parameter adjustment strategy. Previous approaches create a low rank matrix for matrix completion using similar patches across an image for every iteration of the optimization. Our method avoids this similar patch finding and the sophisticated initialization steps by using the BTM, improving the overall performance of matrix completion. We show efficient recovery of missing pixels of an incomplete path tracing image and partially damaged or occluded photograph.","PeriodicalId":172046,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Education and Multimedia Technology","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125514719","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These features, together with Q-matrix, guessing parameter, slipping parameter and participants’ response results were integrated through concat layer and became feature matrix of response sequence. With the feature matrix as input, the cognitive diagnostic model was constructed based on N layers Bi-GRUs (Bi-directional Gated Recurrent Units) which transformed the feature matrix into feature vectors. Finally, non-linear classifier sigmod was adopted to classify each knowledge state dichotomously and loss function was designed to optimize the training effects of model. Training data from actual receptive tests, the model obtained 91.3% of model accuracy and 95.76% of average attribute accuracy. The experimental results show that the integration of item semantic features which embody lexical and syntax information of the items is beneficial for the model to predict participants’ language comprehension ability and provide individualized knowledge feedback. Besides, the deep bi-neural network model could comprehensively learn the deep information of participants’ response sequence and enhance the model effects of CD-CAT.","PeriodicalId":172046,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Education and Multimedia Technology","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127686902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study involved 208 students (141 girls and 67 boys) of the 1st and 2nd year of education from Moscow State Food University and the Russian University of Transport. With the help of the questionnaire of motivation for the success of university students (Pakulina, 2009) we identified essential components of success. Students see their success as a result of personal activity (16.81), personal success (16.77), psychological comfort and feelings of emotional uplift (16.22). Students appreciate the feeling of getting a result that brings them satisfaction and well-deserved joy after overcoming difficulties. For them, the external elements of success, such as luck and strength, are not so important. Intrinsic motivation for success was more important than extrinsic. Social media is important for students, it helps to connect friends and classmates. For students with big amounts of friends and subscribers the most important are motives for material success, acclaim, power (external motives) and the wish to overcome difficulties.","PeriodicalId":172046,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Education and Multimedia Technology","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125393157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
