To date, the design of most interfaces assumes that users are literate in a spoken language, such as Chinese, French, or English. Thus, interfaces rely mostly on text elements in one of those languages, in addition to graphical and other multimedia components. These interfaces pose accessibility barriers for many deaf users whose first language is one of the various existing sign languages. Our approach gives sign language visibility and considers it should be the main access means to functionality of any application intended for deaf users. Key contributions of the paper are a rationale for natural sign language interfaces and a set of related design guidelines. We illustrate the application of the proposed guidelines to the design of a prototypical environment for assisting users in translating between LSM, the official Mexican sign language, and Libras, the official Brazilian sign language.","PeriodicalId":145622,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE Mexican International Conference on Computer Science (ENC)","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117259411","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a methodology for automatic nanoparticles diameter characterization by image analysis. A nanoparticles images database was obtained by means of an electron microscope in the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) and other images were obtained from nanoComposix web page. Firstly, an adaptive Wiener Filtering Method (AWF) was carried out to remove noise and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization Method (CLAHE) as enhancement step. Later two segmentation methods were compared: K-means Clustering (KMC) and Adaptive Thresholding (AT), both with MATLAB programming environment. Results showed that KMC performed better than AT i.e., a KMC mean square error 41.98 vs AT MSE of 172.11.","PeriodicalId":145622,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE Mexican International Conference on Computer Science (ENC)","volume":"133 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117282221","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The lack of availability of information, which is changing, and of the tutors to address a range of doubts from students, motivated us to propose developing the Conversational Agent Tutor system based on Ontology. In this paper we present the conceptual design of this system and a usability evaluation that allowed us to determine the perception of 25 students regarding the ease of use and their feasibility to use it. For the above, we used the SUS and UES instruments and a questionnaire that we designed. We identified that the system is perceived as useful, but we need to design and implement a robust ontology that satisfies the guidance and information needed by students.","PeriodicalId":145622,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE Mexican International Conference on Computer Science (ENC)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124175739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, most public hospitals do not use specific tools for estimating the radiation level (dosimetry level) that a patient has before requesting an imaging study. Instead, the physicians use their experience in deciding to request a specific imaging study. In this paper, we present the design, development, and evaluation of a system for estimating patients' dosimetry levels to be used when physicians request patients' imaging studies. We evaluated the system with ten physicians in a public hospital. Our results show that the proposed system has the potential to be integrated into the current medical practices of the public hospital.","PeriodicalId":145622,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE Mexican International Conference on Computer Science (ENC)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114937525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the efficient solution of mathematical models of this disease may improve understanding of its dynamics. In this work, we numerically solve the Partial Differential Equation modelling the proliferation-invasion of brain glioblastomas. We apply the Crank-Nicolson method to obtain the associated algebraic system of equations of the model and compare computation times for LU-decomposition, Gauss-Seidel, and Conjugate Gradient methods. These results suggest that solution times may be reduced by exploiting the underlying structure of the derived system of algebraic equations.","PeriodicalId":145622,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE Mexican International Conference on Computer Science (ENC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127825360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In health scenarios, the building of data science systems not only must include efficient modules for the acquisition, processing, and visualization of the data, but also transversal layers are required for the management, delivery and storage of data in a secure, reliable, and efficient manner in accordance with different norms or regulations for the handling of sensitive data. This is even more complex when the data science systems are distributed in environments of multiple infrastructures or in current and future computing models (for example, edge, fog, cloud or any combination of them). This article presents Zamna, a computational tool that allows end-users to support data science services by providing the resources for the secure and reliable data management, delivery and storage. Zamna manages the exchange and preparation of data in automatic and transparent manners, from acquisition until consumption by decision makers, which is a fundamental part in practically any data science application. Through its services, Zamna allows the automatic and transparent meeting of standards and regulations of data management, guaranteeing privacy, confidentiality, integrity, and availability of content, as well as tolerance to service failures and traceability. In a case study in the e-health domain, Zamna, allows achieving 70% compliance with international standards for the secure handling of sensitive data at the time that exhibited high performance due to the parallel patterns used in its construction.","PeriodicalId":145622,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE Mexican International Conference on Computer Science (ENC)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131773372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
