Secara umumnya, penggunaan bahasa pertama dalam pengajaran bahasa kedua oleh guru-guru sering dianggap sebagai satu amalan yang boleh mengganggu proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran. Malahan, ia bertentangan dengan konsep pengajaran bahasa kedua yang mementingkan penggunaan maksimum bahasa sasaran. Guru-guru bukan opsyen pula merupakan guru-guru yang pada awalnya dilatih untuk mengajar mata pelajaran seperti Geograi, Sains, Fizik, Sejarah dan Bahasa Melayu tetapi sebaliknya mereka diminta untuk mengajar Bahasa Inggeris kerana kekurangan guru opsyen di sekolah. Kajian ini menggunakan reka bentuk penyelidikan kualitatif dan seramai enam orang guru bukan opsyen Bahasa Inggeris telah dipilih secara rawak dari empat buah sekolah menengah di daerah Temerloh, Pahang. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti jika guru-guru ini menggunakan bahasa Melayu di dalam bilik darjah mereka dan sebab penggunaannya. Mereka juga ditemu bual dan sesi pengajaran mereka telah dirakam untuk meneliti situasi penggunaan bahasa Melayu. Dapatan menunjukkan bahawa penggunaan bahasa pertama masih berlaku dalam pengajaran bahasa kedua dan terdapat perbezaan penggunaan bahasa Melayu oleh guru Bahasa Inggeris bukan opsyen. Justeru, adalah penting guru-guru diberi latihan yang cukup untuk mengajar bahasa kedua ini untuk mengurangkan penggunaan bahasa pertama.\u0000 \u0000In the context of teaching English as a second language in Malaysia, the main issue of the use of Malay language by English teachers including the non-option English teachers has often become the topic of debate. In general, the use of first language in teaching a second language is often considered as a practice that can disrupt the teaching and learning process. In fact, it is contrary to the concept of L2 teaching which emphasizes the maximum use of the target language. Meanwhile, nonoption teachers are teachers who were initially trained to teach subjects such as Geography, Science, Physics, History and Malay but instead they are required to teach English due to the lack of English option teachers in the school. This study used a qualitative research design and a total of six non-English option teachers were randomly selected from four secondary schools in the district of Temerloh, Pahang. This study aimed to examine whether these teachers used Malay language in their classrooms and the reasons for their use. They were interviewed and English lessons were recorded to identify situations in which Malay language was utilised. The findings showed that the use of the first language still occured in the teaching of the second language and there were differences in the use of Malay language by non-English option teachers. Kebergantungan manusia terhadap elemen alam sekitar memaksa manusia untuk masuk ke dalam sistem alam sekitar yang sangat terbatas. Cara terbaik untuk menjaga hubungan baik terhadap alam sekitar adalah melalui pemuliharaan dan pemeliharaan alam sekitar agar sentiasa lestari. Hal ini tentu sekali bermula daripada titik awal iaitu pendidikan. Pelbagai usaha menerapkan pendidikan alam sekitar ke dalam sistem kurikulum sekolah namun kesedaran terhadap alam sekitar dalam kalangan pelajar sekolah menengah masih berada pada tahap yang kurang memuaskan. Oleh hal yang demikian, kajian terhadap kesedaran dan amalan pendidikan berunsur alam sekitar dijalankan. Selain itu, hubungan antara kesedaran dan pembentukan amalan pendidikan alam sekitar dalam kalangan pelajar sekolah menengah di Kota Kinabalu turut dikenal pasti. Kajian ini menggunakan borang soal selidik yang diedarkan di sepuluh buah sekolah terpilih dengan jumlah responden seramai 500 orang dan analisis data dilakukan secara analisis deskriptif. Hasil dapatan menunjukkan hubungan antara kesedaran terhadap kepentingan alam sekitar dengan amalan pembudayaan amalan pendidikan alam sekitar dalam kalangan pelajar sekolah menengah di daerah Kota Kinabalu, Sabah adalah tidak signifikan. \u0000 \u0000Environmental issues have become a very dangerous to human beings. Human dependence on environmental elements forces humans to adapt into a very limited environmental system. The best way to maintain good relations with the environment is through conservation and preservation of the environment so that it is always sustainable. This starts from the starting point which is education. Various efforts implemented environmental education into the school curriculum system but the environmental problems among school students are still at an unsatisfactory level. Therefore, this study was conducted to identified the level of awareness and practice of environmental education as well as to measure the relationship between awareness and practice of environmental education among secondary school students in Kota Kinabalu. This study uses a questionnaire distributed in ten selected schools with a total of 500 respondents and data analysis was done by descriptive analysis. Walaupun sering digunakan dalam penulisan, pengimbuhan yang tidak tepat boleh mengganggu kegramatisan bahasa Melayu standard. Berdasarkan analisis kandungan terhadap 31 teks karangan respons terbuka murid-murid tingkatan empat daripada sebuah sekolah menengah di daerah Tuaran, Sabah, didapati 27 sampel karangan melakukan kesalahan penggunaan imbuhan awalan kata kerja meN- , di-, dan beR- . Kelemahan penguasaan varian imbuhan awalan menyebabkan kesalahan morfologi, ejaan dan ketidakgramatisan ayat yang dibina oleh murid. Pada masa yang sama, kesan daripada kelemahan penguasaan imbuhan murid, mereka telah mencipta istilah baharu yang jelas telah melanggar peraturan tatabahasa bahasa Melayu. Oleh itu, kesalahan yang didapati tidak wajar dipandang remeh kerana hal tersebut akan menyebabkan keterbiasaan murid untuk sewenang-wenangnya menggabungkan imbuhan dengan kata dasar bahasa Melayu yang lain tanpa merujuk sistem pengimbuhan yang betul. Malahan, dikhuatiri murid akan melakukan hal yang serupa dalam bentuk imbuhan yang lain. Akhirnya, murid sendiri tidak mengetahui fungsi sebenar proses pengimbuhan. Aspek pengimbuhan merupakan nahu bahasa Melayu yang wajib dikuasai oleh murid kerana agak sukar untuk membina ayat yang tidak melalui proses penerbitan. Bagi menangani masalah penguasaan imbuhan dalam kalangan murid, latih tubi yang berterusan dan pengajaran rumus pengimbuhan perlu didedahkan kepada murid. \u0000 \u0000It is easy to spot affixes in students’ essays as they formed transitive active verbs, intransitive verbs and passive verbs in their sentences. However, wrong use of affixation could cause ungrammatical use of the standard Malay language. Based on a content analysis of 31 open response essays written by form four students from a secondary school in Tuaran, Sabah, there were errors of affixation with meN-, di-, and beR- found in 27 essays. Improper usage of affix variants has led to morphology error, misspelling and ungrammatical sentences. The lack of knowledge on using appropriate affixes has led students to create new terms which clearly do not follow the rules of Malay grammar. The findings suggest that it should not be taken for granted as it would trigger students to bind affixes with other Malay basic words according to their wish without referring to the proper affixation system. Moreover, they may do the same to other affixes. In the end, students themselves could not figure out the function of affixation.Affixation should be mastered by students as many sentences are built from the process of combining a morpheme with other words. Bermula pada tahun 1949 sehingga kini, konflik ini masih belum reda malah mengakibatkan ribuan nyawa terkorban dan harta benda musnah. Kedua-dua pihak masih memperjuangkan matlamat dan kepentingan masing-masing dan belum bersedia untuk mencari penyelesaian. Penulisan ini memfokuskan kepada pendekatan Segi tiga Konflik sebagai alternatif untuk memahami konflik yang bersifat berulang-ulang ini (Protracted Social Conflict). Terdapat tiga elemen utama dalam Pendekatan Segi tiga Konflik iaitu Situasi, Sikap dan Tingkah laku. Ketiga elemen ini saling berkaitan antara satu sama lain yang mendorong kepada turun dan naik intensiti konflik. Penulisan ini merujuk kepada sumber-sumber sekunder yang melibatkan perbincangan dalam buku, jurnal, hasil kajian, laporan media dan lain-lain lagi. Data yang diperoleh ini kemudiannya dianalisis melalui pengaplikasian elemen Segi tiga Konflik sebagai alternatif memahami konflik yang berpanjangan tersebut. Kebergantungan antara tiga elemen ini membolehkan kita memahami punca-punca konflik tersebut terperangkap di intensiti yang ekstrem. Hasil daripada pengaplikasian elemen Segi tiga Konflik ini mendapati bahawa dari sudut ‘Situasi’, konflik tersebut berlaku akibat perebutan Wilayah Xinjiang (konflik material) antara etnik Uighur dan Kerajaan China dan kini telah bertukar kepada konflik nilai (agama dan identiti) sehingga sukar dikompromi dan diselesaikan. Begitu juga dengan elemen ‘Sikap’, apabila konflik yang berpanjangan tersebut telah meningkat elemen psikologi yang tidak terkawal seperti marah, benci, cemburu, imej musuh, stereotaip dan prejudis. Akhirnya, ia membentuk elemen ‘Tingkah laku’ yang memaksa, memujuk, mengugut, ancaman, diskriminasi, asimilasi dan pembunuhan. Salah satu contoh ialah penahanan kem pendidikan dan vokasional ke atas etnik Uighur di Xinjiang yang merupakan tingkah laku asimilasi yang melibatkan ancaman dan ugutan; ia berkaitan dengan elemen psikologi stereotaip dan double standard Kerajaan China ke atas etnik Uighur. \u0000 \u0000The unrest between the Uighurs and the Chinese government has elongated for quite a long time. Since 1949, the conflict has not subsided and resulted in thousands of lives lost and property destruction. Both sides are still fighting for their respective goals and interests, and not ready to find solutions. This paper focuses on the Galtung’s Conflict Triangle Approach as an alternative to understand this recurring conflict (Protracted Social Conflict). There are three main elements in the Conflict Triangle Approach namely Situation, Attitude and Behavior. These three elements are interconnected, leading to escalated and de-escalated of conflict intensity. Kerjaya yang baik perlu dirancang bagi memastikannya kongruen, halal dan menepati kehendak Islam walaupun dalam bidang teknikal yang penuh dengan amali dan kerja tangan. Penerapan nilai kerohanian Islam merupakan perkara yang perlu ada dalam perancangan kerjaya bagi memastikan pelan perancangan menepati kehendak syariat Islam. Justeru, kajian ini telah dilakukan untuk meneroka penerapan nilai kerohanian dalam perancangan kerjaya pelajar Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET). Kajian berbentuk kualitatif ini menggunakan Focus Group Discussion (FGD) sebagai kaedah kutipan data. Peserta kajian terdiri daripada 12 orang lulusan kolej komuniti dan politeknik telah berjaya dalam kerjaya yang digabungkan bersama tiga orang pensyarah teknikal yang berpengalaman bagi menguatkan hasil dapatan. Hasil analisis tema terhadap perbincangan FGD telah berjaya menemui enam tema utama dan sepuluh sub tema. Tema utama ialah (1) Niat, (2) Azam, (3) Sabar, (4) Istiqamah, (5) Doa dan Tawakal, dan (6) Jaga Hubungan. Hasil kajian ini dapat dijadikan panduan untuk pelajar TVET dalam merangka kerjaya mereka berpandukan syariat Allah SWT. \u0000Career is an important agenda in Islam towards the concept of the world as a bridge to after death. A good career needs to be planned to ensure that it is congruent, halal and meets the requirements of Islam even in a technical field that is full of practicals and manual labour. The application of spiritual values is a must in career planning to ensure that the planning meets the requirements of Islamic law. This is because, without the element of spirituality, an individual is empty in terms of manners to be a good employee. Therefore, this study was conducted to explore the application of spiritual values in career planning required by Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) students to be a balanced workforce in terms of skills and manners. This qualitative study used Focus Group Discussion (FGD) as the data collection method. The study participants consisted of 12graduates of community colleges and polytechnics who have been successful in their careers, combined with three experienced technical lecturers to strengthen the findings. The results of the thematic analysis of the FGD discussion have successfully found six main themes and ten subthemes. The main themes are (1) Intention, (2) Determination, (3) Patience, (4) Istiqamah, (5) Prayer and Trust, and (6) Keeping Relationships. Dalam konteks sejarah, fenomena kapitalisme telah berkembang dengan penggunaan wang dalam masyarakat Melayu untuk aktiviti ekonomi yang jelas dikesan, terutamanya dalam kalangan aristokrat, komuniti perniagaan dan golongan rakyat. Golongan pertukangan Melayu adalah golongan bawahan yang sedia terdedah kepada ekonomi wang telah berusaha untuk menubuhkan syarikat perniagaan milikan orang Melayu dengan cubaan pengumpulan dana sebagai modal. Namun, usaha ini gagal direalisasikan walaupun sambutan di peringkat permulaan amat menggalakkan. Fenomena ini juga telah berkembang dalam kalangan kaum tani kerana penggunaan wang dalam aktiviti pertanian telah mengubah orientasi ekonomi kaum tani daripada sara diri kepada komersial. Perubahan orientasi ekonomi ini sebaliknya telah menimbulkan masalah belenggu hutang berterusan dalam kalangan rakyat bawahan Melayu. Bagi membantu rakyat Melayu, mekanisme yang dilihat boleh mengurangkan masalah hutang dalam kalangan kaum tani ialah dengan penubuhan koperasi pinjaman luar bandar yang akan membolehkan mereka mendapat pinjaman bagi membiayai operasi pertanian, membebaskan diri dari penindasan pemiutang serta memupuk sikap menyimpan wang dalam kalangan mereka. Perkara ini dapat dicapai dengan melaburkan sejumlah wang yang kecil dalam sesebuah koperasi yang kemudiannya akan memberikan keuntungan. Perbincangan dua aspek ini menunjukkan dilema masyarakat Melayu untuk menyesuaikan diri dalam menghadapi perubahan orientasi ekonomi wang yang berlandaskan kapitalisme. Perbincangan ini meliputi analisis bahan-bahan sejarah sezaman yang merangkumi surat khabar Melayu dan dokumen pentadbiran British.\u0000 \u0000This article discusses the dilemma of the money economy in Malay society concerning the establishment of Malay business corporations and cooperative societies in the early 20th century. In the historical context, the phenomenon of capitalism was reflected through the penetration of the money economy into the Malay economic activities evident among the Malay aristocrats, business communities and the commoners. The Malay artisans were among the first lower class community who were exposed to the money economy. However, attempts to raise funds to establish corporations owned by these Malays failed despite the encouraging initial support. This phenomenon of money economy had also expanded into the peasant community whereby the utilisation of money economy in agricultural activities had changed the self-sufficiency orientation into commercialism. Nevertheless, this change had caused many Malay peasants to be involved with indebtedness. Kajian ini dijalankan menggunakan kaedah kualitatif dengan reka bentuk kajian kes. Data dikutip melalui temu bual terhadap lapan peserta kajian daripada lapan sekolah berbeza di tiga buah negeri. Peserta kajian dipilih menggunakan kaedah persampelan bertujuan. Empat kriteria ditetapkan, iaitu; 1) menghasilkan inovasi pengajaran, 2) memenangi pertandingan inovasi sekurang-kurangnya di peringkat negeri, 3) tidak lokek berkongsi maklumat tentang kolaborasi ketika menghasilkan inovasi, dan 4) mudah didekati dan memberikan kerjasama. Data dianalisis menggunakan aplikasi Nvivo 12 Plus. Perbandingan antara data satu peserta kajian dengan peserta kajian lain dibuat agar dapat membentuk tema yang tepat. Dapatan menunjukkan terdapat tujuh bentuk kolaborasi dijalinkan oleh peserta kajian, iaitu kolaborasi dengan pelajar, rakan guru, pentadbir, IPT, pasangan, syarikat dan upah. Kolaborasi guru inovatif tidak terhad bersama rakan guru dalam ahli panitia sahaja, bahkan turut merangkumi pelbagai pihak yang mempunyai kepakaran, pengetahuan dan alatan yang diperlukan ketika menghasilkan inovasi. Dapatan ini dapat memberi impak kepada pentadbir sekolah dalam merangka program kolaborasi antara guru di sekolah mereka dengan sekolah lain dan turut membuka ruang kepada kolaborasi dengan agensi luar daripada pendidikan agar inovasi yang dihasilkan mencapai piawaian yang lebih tinggi dan berkualiti. Selain itu, kolaborasi dengan pelajar juga perlu digalakkan kerana pelajar adalah golongan pengguna yang akan menerima impak langsung daripada inovasi pengajaran yang dihasilkan.\u0000 \u0000Collaboration is an important element when generating innovation. In the variety of constraints faced when producing innovations, collaboration can help facilitate the process. However, what is the common form of collaboration forged by innovative teachers in schools when producing innovations? This question is interesting to explore. This study was conducted using qualitative method with case study design. Data were collected through interviews of eight study participants from eight different schools in three states. Study participants were selected using purposive sampling method. Four criteria were set, namely; 1) produce instructional innovations, 2) win innovation competitions at least in the state level, 3) not stingy in sharing information about collaboration when producing innovations, and 4) approachable and can collabore. Data were analyzed using the Nvivo 12 Plus application. Comparisons between the data of one study participant with other study participants were made in order to form an accurate theme. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji perkembangan tulisan Jawi sebagai indikator dalam pencapaian tamadun Melayu. Keseluruhan kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kualitatif menerusi analisis terhadap sumber primer dan sekunder. Kajian sejarah dan kajian dokumen turut dilakukan bagi memastikan kesahihan setiap maklumat yang dikemukakan dan menilai fakta yang ada. Hasil kajian mendapati tulisan Jawi telah memperkukuhkan budaya ilmu di alam Melayu dan menjadi bukti kearifan tempatan dalam pelbagai bidang. Selain itu, tulisan Jawi turut menjadi asas kepada pembentukan jati diri dan wadah intelektual versi alam Melayu. Implikasi kajian ini ialah tulisan Jawi merupakan satu sumbangan masyarakat Melayu tradisi yang berupaya menghasilkan pemikiran yang dapat digunakan sehingga kini dalam pelbagai keilmuan secara relatifnya komprehensif dan tidak terhad pada hubungan keagamaan sahaja. \u0000 \u0000Since the emergence of Islam in the Malay world, academic studies have been developed expeditiously through the historical development process. The history of Malay civilization proves that the Jawi script has succeeded in developing Malay knowledge as it thrives excellently through education from scholars. The purpose of this research is to study the development of the Jawi script as an indicator of the achievement of the Malay civilization. A qualitative approach through analysis on primary and secondary sources has been used throughout this research. Research on the history and documents have also been done to ensure the confirmation of each information that is submitted as well as to evaluate the facts. Results from the studies show that the Jawi script has strengthened the tradition of knowledge in the Malay world and become the proof of wisdom in many fields. Besides, Jawi script has also been fundamental to the formation of identity and intellectual. The scholar ardently advocated the importance of integrated education. He established educational institutions and spearheaded them till the end of his life. He believed that integrated education is instrumental in fulfilling the duties of a Mu’min (true believer) in this world, i.e., Khilāfah (vicegerency), ʿubūdiyah (servitude) and amānah (trust). Furthermore, he believed that Islam is misunderstood and misrepresented in the modern world for a variety of causes, which could only be addressed via good da’wah activities filled with al-ikmah (wisdom). These works can only be done after Muslims have a thorough understanding of both Islamic and human sciences. This paper uses textual analysis of Sayyed Ismail’s relevant literature, followed by a discussion of its social implications.
