Therefore, twenty-one mature healthy pigeons (granivorous), cattle egrets (carnivorous), and ducks (omnivorous); n= 7 per species were utilized for the histological, immunohistochemical, and ultrastructural analyses. Histologically, the mucosal folds were covered by non-keratinized stratified squamous epithelium in the three investigated species. The mucosal glands are only peculiar to the crops of the cattle egrets as well as the ducks, while the pigeons' crops were devoid of any secretory units. Morphometrically, the optical densities of the AB and PAS reactions in the secretory glands, the area % of collagen fibers, the thickness of the tunica musculosa were measured and declared significant differences among the three studied avian species. Immunohistochemically, the ki-67 immunopositive reactivity was obviously detected in the nuclei of basal cell layers of the crop epithelium in pigeons only. Ultrastructurally, the covering epithelium of all studied species had been shown to be the basal layer of cuboidal to tall columnar cells with desmosomal junctions at the level of their cellular interdigitations, intermediate layers of large irregular polygonal cells with obviously increased cytokeratin filaments especially in the ducks and cellular interdigitations in between. The superficial layer of flat-shaped cells in the three investigated species manifested by desmosomal junctions in between but at the level of the surface squamous cells of the superficial layer, a fine lateral process is only inspected in the pigeons. The mucus secretory endpieces' of tall columnar cells were characterized apically by secretory granules of variable electron densities in the cattle egrets and electron-lucent in ducks.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115687346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a trial to investigate the inclusion of ORT in broiler chickens suffering from respiratory troubles two hundred and fifty birds ( 30 flocks) were subjected to clinical, PM and serological examination . The clinical findings of the examined birds were nasal discharges, rales, swollen eyes accompanied by diarrhea in some cases. Fibrinous pericarditis, perihepatitis and air sacculitis as well as caseated materials in trachea and bronchi were the frequently associated gross lesions beside foamy yoghurt like exudates. Enzyme linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA) was applied on Sera samples (N= 250) to detect antibodies against ORT. ELISA results were positive among 80% of the tested flocks .A selected 49 sera samples were submitted for both ELISA and Slide agglutination test (SAT). Their outcomes revealed 93.9% positive for ELISA and 89.8% and 69.38% against ORT-I and ORT-II antigens respectively. The comparable findings proved that in case of unavailability of ELISA assay the SAT could be helpful alternative in ORT antibody monitoring.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133287056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two hundred (150 pet stores and 50 lofts) samples were collected from pigeons suffered from general signs of illness, joint lesions and diarrhea. Bacteriological and serological analysis revealed 12 (6%) isolate of Salmonella species distributed among eight serotypes, in which S. Virchow was more frequently isolated (25%), followed by S. Typhimurium and S. Paratyphi (16.6% each). Meanwhile, S. Akay, S. Salamae, S. Anderlecht, S. Magherafelt and S. Montevideo were 8.3%, each. All Salmonella isolates showed 100% sensitivity towards norfloxacin followed by ciprofloxacin (83.3%). On the other hand, ten Salmonella serotypes showed high resistance to erythromycin and rifampicin by 91.7 %. However, 42.1% of the recovered isolates exhibited Multi drug resistant (MDR) and 16.6% exhibited Extensive drug resistant (XDR) to different antibiotics. Molecular detection of 5 virulence genes (invA, stn, sopE1, pefA and fimH) among four chosen Salmonella serotypes (S. Paratyphi, S. Typhimurium, S. Virchow, S. Montevideo) using conventional PCR revealed the presence of invA, stn and fimH genes in all examined Salmonella serotypes. Meanwhile, sopE1 and pefA genes were detected only between S. Virchow and S. This study aimed to detect the incidence and contamination level of meat and chicken products with B. cereus group in Sharkia Governorate, Egypt, with reference to their enterotoxin genes` profiles. Overall, 43 out of 200 (21.5%) examined samples were contaminated by B. cereus group, with identification of only one species, B. cereus. B. cereus group isolates were frequent in chicken samples (25.71%), with the highest incidence in chicken meat (30%) followed by chicken sausage and chicken luncheon (25% each). Meanwhile, they were isolated from 19.23% of examined meat products, which predominated in meat burger (25%), followed by each of meat kofta, shawarma, and luncheon (20% each), minced meat (17.14%) and meat sausage (15%). Of interest, the highest B. cereus count (>10 colony forming units (CFU)/ g) was found in 2% of positive samples, with a higher percent in meat sausage (33.33%). Whereas 15.5% of positive samples harbored B. cereus with counts ranging from >1x10-10 CFU/g. Molecular analysis of B. cereus enterotoxin genes using multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) revealed that both ces and nhe genes were detected in 100% of the examined isolates, while cytk and hbl genes were present only in 9.52% and 23.8% of analyzed isolates, respectively. These findings, involving a higher occurrence of B. cereus and their toxin genes in meat and chicken products represent a serious public health concern in Egypt.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133445658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Diabetes is either due to the pancreas produces insufficient amount of insulin or the cells of the body do not react with the insulin produced. Type 2 diabetes (diabetes mellitus) is the most common type of diabetes and grows in prevalence worldwide. The aim of our study was to investigate the anti-diabetic impact with emphasis on hepatic lipid metabolism and spleen histopathology effect of curcumin-magnesium oxide nanoparticles conjugate (Cur-MgO NPs conjugate) in nicotinamide (NA)-streptozotocin (STZ) induced type 2 diabetic rats. This study included three groups: Group 1 (control group), Group 2 (STZ induced type 2 diabetic rats) and Group 3 (type 2 diabetic rats were orally administered Cur-MgO NPs conjugate (10 mg/Kg BW/day for 45 days)). The levels of plasma glucose, serum insulin, lipid profile and hepatic expression of lipogenic enzymes Malonyl-CoA decarboxylase (MCD), Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (Ppar α) were measured. Moreover, histopathological examination of spleen was carried out. The assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR), a significant reduction in serum insulin level and HOMA of β-cell function (HOMA β). Also, reduction in hepatic mRNA expression of MCD and Ppar-α and an altered lipid profile were noticed in diabetic group in comparison with the control group. Oral administration of Cur-MgO NPs conjugate restored glucose (102.73±2.16), TC (139.80±3.61) and LDL-c (87.56±3.72) to their physiological levels in the control group (108.29±2.45, 150.27±2.56 and 94.43±2.75 respectively). Histopathological examination of the spleen showed damage of lymphoid cells in type 2 diabetes (T2D), while in treated group showed moderate improvement in spleen tissue and cells are rescued from apoptosis. The outcome of present study revealed that Cur-MgO NP conjugate has potential ameliorative effect on the hematologic, immunologic and hepatic metabolic alterations in type 2 diabetic rats.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132858470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Generally, any increase in bodyweight can be attributed to the elevation in daily food intake and the reduction in energy expenditure. Several functions could be achieved by moderate exercise including maintaining an optimum body weight and muscle mass, lowering abdominal fat and increasing lipid catabolism. However, the exact molecular mechanisms involved remain understudied. Our study was designed mainly to evaluate the influence of moderate treadmill exercise on body metabolism with special reference to hepatic lipid metabolism. Twenty adult male Sprague Dawley rats weighting 200±20 gm were randomly assigned to either sedentary or exercised groups. The exercise protocol lasted for 20 mins/ 5 times / week along 4 weeks. Although no significant changes in body weight, insulin and corticosterone levels, there was a significant decrease in fasting blood glucose and serum leptin levels (81.06%and 75.49% respectively). The current exercise regime significantly increased serum high density lipoprotein (HDL-c) level (127.56%) and significantly decreased serum triacylglycerol (TAG), low density lipoprotein (LDL-c) and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL-c) levels (75.50%, 62.83% and 74.48% respectively). Also, treadmill exercise significantly upregulated the hepatic expression of acetyl-CoA oxidase (ACO) and carnitine palmitoyl CoA transferase 1 (CPT1) (173% and 148% respectively) as well as significantly downregulated the hepatic acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) (52%) but not fatty acid synthase (FAS) mRNA expression. Overall, these results suggest a beneficial effect of moderate treadmill exercise hepatic lipid metabolism.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127518782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, this study was conducted to determine the anti-diarrheal effect of probiotic supplementation in neonatal buffalo calves at a dose of 10 g for each animal once daily for three weeks comparing with non-supplemented control group that fed only on milk replacer. Fecal score, selective hematological and biochemical studies were analyzed to evaluate the effect of probiotics on the frequency of diarrhea caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli) and the Probability of having any side effects on blood picture  and liver function. Results revealed that the probiotics mixture used at this study had no significant changes at the values of red and white blood cells, liver enzymes, glucose and electrolytes. however, a  significant decrease in the count of fecal  E. coli wihout diarrhea was observed all over the experimental periods compared to the non-supplemented animals. Out of  53  broiler flocks, 225 chickens showing respiratory manifestations were examined. Viral isolation from respiratory tissues, serological and molecular identification were done. Based on hemagglutination inhibition (HI) test, for 42 positive haemagglutinating allantoic fluids, the prevalence of NDV and AIV (H9 and H5 subtypes) was 64.3%, 45.3%and 2,4% respectively.  Two diagnostic polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays were used. Based on TaqMan probe base real-time PCR, 17/19, 10/42 and 1/42 flocks were confirmed to be infected with IBV, AIV subtype H9 and H5 respectively. Moreover, conventional PCR amplification for detection of Mycoplasma gallisepticum in 25 flocks was performed and revealed 56% (14/25) positive flocks. Subsequently, amplified products of three M. gallisepticum representative isolates were sequenced and phylogenitically analyzed with other strains on GenBank. The results revealed that the three examined isolates were wild type (field isolates).We could conclude that there were continuous circulation of different respiratory agents (viral (NDV, AIVH9 & H5, and IBV) and bacterial (MG) in broiler flocks in Sharkia Governorate either as single or mixed infection although wide using of different vaccination regimes and antibiotics so early diagnosis of these pathogens is considered the most effective tool in prevention and control of diseases.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124344293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was carried out on sixty male albino rats with average body weight (120 ± 10 g), which were divided into 6 equal groups. Gp.(1):  were kept as control on distilled water, rats in Gp. (2) received NiCl2 (0.75 mg/kg  BW), Gp. (3) received  A. sinensis root extract (300 mg/kg BW) and Gp. (4) received O. majorana oil (0.5 ml/kg BW). NiCl2 intoxicated rats in Gp. (5) and Gp. (6) were administered A. sinensis root extract and O. majorana oil at the same former doses, respectively. The treatments were daily and orally for 4 weeks. Blood and tissue samples were collected for performing the different experimental analysis after 4 weeks from starting the treatments. Comparing with the control group, results showed that NiCl2 significantly increased serum alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase activities and serum bilirubin, triglycerides, total cholesterol, urea and creatinine concentrations, besides hepatic and renal malondialdehyde concentration, while serum total proteins, albumin and hepatic and renal glutathione, glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase and catalase levels were significantly decreased.
