Etiologyremains poorly understood with few advances over the past decades. Obtaining a confident pre-operativediagnosis remains a challenge, as appendicitis must be entertained in any patient presenting with an acuteabdomen. A clinical classification is used to stratify management based on simple (non-perforated) andcomplex (gangrenous or perforated) inflammation, although many patients remain with an equivocaldiagnosis, which remains one of the most challenging dilemmas. The aim of the study is to evaluate themanagement and outcome of complicated appendicitis at the Abia State University Teaching HospitalAba Nigeria. Methodology: A prospective analysis of all children treated for appendicitis at the AbiaState University Teaching Hospital Aba between 2016 and December 2018. Proforma was opened fordemographic data, clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, complication and outcome. Results: A totalof 100 children aged between 2 and 15 (mean 8.7 ± 2.8) years, comprising 60males and 40 females withmale/female ratio 3:2 had appendectomy which accounted for 8% of total pediatric operations and 40% ofpediatric abdominal operations. Only 40 (40%) children presented during the first episode of symptomsand in clinically stable state while 60 (60%) were referred after wrong diagnosis and treatment by generalpractitioners which resulted in different complications ranging from appendix abscess 10 (10%), appendixmass 15 (15%), perforated appendix 30 (30%), gangrenous appendix 5 (5%) . These influenced postoperative outcome with wound infection recorded in 20 (20%), wound break down 10 (10%), septicemia15 (15%), pelvic abscess 5 (5%) and death 1 (1%). These were not recorded among those who presentedearly who also had significantly lower duration of hospitalization and cost of treatment. Conclusion: Latereferral due to paucity of knowledge, long referral chain and low index of suspicion was rampant whichsignificantly increased associated morbidities and mortality among children managed with appendicitisKeywords: Appendicitis, children, complicated","PeriodicalId":13590,"journal":{"name":"Innovative Journal of Medical and Health Science","volume":"38 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81314101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study aims todetermine the histopathological spectrum of gallbladder lesions incholecystectomy specimens.Materials and Methods: The present study included 320 gallbladder specimensobtained from cholecystectomy procedures conducted at tertiary teachinghospital in Jammu. Cholecystectomy specimens received in the laboratory werefixed in 10% formalin and submitted to detailed gross examination.Haematoxylin and eosin was used to stain gallbladder sections from fundus,body and neck. \u0000Results: The present study included 320 cholecystectomyspecimens comprising predominantly of females (85%) with M:F ratio of 1:5.7.Maximum number of patients were between 31 and 40 years (31.9%). Out of320 cases, the maximum number of cases were of chronic calculouscholecystitis (271 cases, 84.7%) followed by chronic cholecystitis withcholesterolosis (14 cases, 4.4%). There were 9 cases of chronic acalculouscholecystitis. Other non-neoplastic lesions received were acute cholecystitis (4cases -1.3%), chronic cholecystitis with metaplasia (3 cases – 0.9%),xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis (12 cases – 3.8%), eosinophilic andfollicular cholecystitis (2 cases each – 0.6%) and adenocarcinoma gallbladder (2 cases - 0.6%).Conclusion: The histopathological spectrum of gallbladder disease aftercholecystectomy is quite varied ranging from inflammation to malignancy.Therefore, histopathological examination of gall bladder specimens is veryimportant for diagnosis and better management of patient.Keywords: Cholecystectomy, cholecystitis, gallbladder, histopathology","PeriodicalId":13590,"journal":{"name":"Innovative Journal of Medical and Health Science","volume":"52 1","pages":"679-685"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79397929","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study included 74 children (36 men and 38 women; average age: 9 years). According to these data, children were grouped into two moving levels (i.e., High and Low) and, for each group by sex, a t-sample test was performed to assess the level of actual motor capacity development before and after the project. Males who were brought into the low-level movement group had a significant improvement in the location and the coarse engine development negotiation score (which is most likely and likely to have a positive effect). A contradictory effect is estimated for women: only girls in high-level movements show significant and likely positive effects of treatment in their motor scores. These results highlight the effect of analyzing the physical education program, although the relative positive results on the selected participants are not enough to overcome the problems of child malnutrition that the document always emphasizes.Keywords: Check for development of Gross engine; teaching methods;extracurricular activities; teaching-learning process.","PeriodicalId":13590,"journal":{"name":"Innovative Journal of Medical and Health Science","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84081319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This cross-sectional study was conducted from the period of 6thof November 2018 until January 2019. Bahraini females older than 18 years of age (n=628)were selected randomly. Each participant had to fill a specific questionnaire which includedquestions to identify the level of knowledge about the milestones and if they are able toidentify abnormal behavior. The results showed that 93.94% of the population has failedto answer 53% of the survey correctly, leaving only 6.06% of the population completingthe survey with correct answers exceeding the cut-off point. This exhibited the lack ofknowledge towards developmental milestones and the complications thatarise due to their delay. We concluded that Bahraini females lack theknowledge of developmental milestones and the complications of this lack on earlydetection of diseases in their babies.
