ORAL MANIFESTATIONS OF NON-CANDIDAL FUNGAL INFECTIONS

Abstract

Fungal infections are mainly due to impaired immune system. The mostcommon fungal infection encountered by a dentist is Candida species.Nowadays there is an increased prevalence of non candidal fungal infectionswhich is also manifested in the oral cavity. The usual oral manifestation ofsuch infections comprises ulcers, pseudo-membranes, abscesses, pustulesand extensive tissue necrosis involving bone. The current review emphasizeson the oral and the histopathological aspects of the emerging uncommonopportunistic non-candidal fungal infections of the oral cavity.Keywords:Fungal; Non-candidal; Mycoses; Immunocompromised; Oral ulcers
