HISTOPATHOLOGICAL SPECTRUM OF GALL BLADDER IN CHOLECYSTECTOMY SPECIMENS – A STUDY OF 320 CASES IN A GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL
Background: The gall bladder is one of the most commonly receivedspecimens for histopathological examination and presents with a wide varietyof lesions ranging from inflammation to malignancy. The present study aims todetermine the histopathological spectrum of gallbladder lesions incholecystectomy specimens.Materials and Methods: The present study included 320 gallbladder specimensobtained from cholecystectomy procedures conducted at tertiary teachinghospital in Jammu. Cholecystectomy specimens received in the laboratory werefixed in 10% formalin and submitted to detailed gross examination.Haematoxylin and eosin was used to stain gallbladder sections from fundus, body and neck.
Results: The present study included 320 cholecystectomyspecimens comprising predominantly of females (85%) with M:F ratio of 1:5.7.Maximum number of patients were between 31 and 40 years (31.9%).
