In accordance with the definition of metaphysics as the doctrine of true Being, as opposed to the illusory one, we can designate this direction of thoughts as metaphysical. A metaphysical breakthrough as a transition from one level of reality to another differs from such intellectual actions as mythologizing or creating a metaphor. From the standpoint of constructivist epistemology, we can speak of a metaphysical transition not only as a movement through the levels of reality, but also as a change in the reality. We can find a transition to another reality, in particular, in a situation of a paradigm shift in science (the scientific reality changes) and in a borderline situation when the lifeworld changes due to the global reassessment by a person of the circumstances of his/her life. Additionally, an epistemologist can describe such transition through the concepts of hermeneutical field and crystallization. According to the author, the above interpretation allows to conclude that the metaphysical transition is a necessary component of cognitive processes that, in this perspective, can be defined as transcending.","PeriodicalId":107715,"journal":{"name":"The Humanities And Social Studies In The Far East","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121471253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While serving as the U.S. resident minister in Japan during the Meiji Restoration, R. Pruyn showed his misunderstanding of the causes of the conflict in Japanese society. Pruyn supported the Tokugawa shogunate, which further complicated the position of American diplomacy in establishing good relations with the victorious supporters of the Mikado.","PeriodicalId":107715,"journal":{"name":"The Humanities And Social Studies In The Far East","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124216100","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since this has been the first example of self-translation in Russian-American prose since Nabokov, which M. Idov himself admitted, the approaches of the two writers are compared. The paper notes a deliberate combination of domestication and foreignization, which reflects the emigrant history of existence between two cultures and two languages mostly addressed to a bilingual reader. At the same time, the ludic principle is significant for both writers (verbalized in pseudo-comments, puns, ironic allusions) and it often determines their translation decisions.","PeriodicalId":107715,"journal":{"name":"The Humanities And Social Studies In The Far East","volume":"48 7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116306291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, the Russian urban space has seen an increase in the number of bilingual linguistic landscape elements–navigation signs, advertisement, informational audio messages. The paper analyses elements of Moscow’s linguistic landscape with the special focus on newly opened popular places to determine the level of translation culture. The results are compared to those of previous studies from other cities of Russia to conclude on the dynamics in the attitude towards translation in linguistic landscapes. According to the results, the higher culture of translation is observed at privately owned places, which are interested in their promotion. Transport hubs and street navigation, in turn, display consistently low dynamics. The study reveals a change in the attitude to translations–the number of bilingual elements in the linguistic landscape of Moscow is decreasing, which may be due to geopolitical changes.","PeriodicalId":107715,"journal":{"name":"The Humanities And Social Studies In The Far East","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127040428","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
