Therefore, developing new concepts to extend the lifespan of endangered structures substantially is a significant future task. Developing conductive fiber mortars as a chloride barrier aims to present a new alternative. To achieve a comprehensive barrier function, determining the electrical conductivity of the carbon fiber-containing mortar is crucial. Various measurement methods for assessing electrical resistance are examined and compared in this context. Common methods include two-point and four-point electrode techniques. Each method has its specific advantages and disadvantages regarding accuracy and applicability. Determining key parameters is essential for implementing innovative protective measures such as electrically conductive carbon fiber mortar as a chloride barrier. Detlef Gerhard","doi":"10.1002/best.202500016","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1002/best.202500016","url":null,"abstract":"<p><b>Automated, quality-assured processes for the rapid production of adaptive, reinforced concrete modules - implementation in a research facility</b></p><p>Modular construction methods based on building blocks principle enable cost-effective and fast construction. This requires geometrically and materially precisely manufactured modules, which can be implemented and largely automated in industrial prefabrication. However, such prefabrication is not yet common and is limited to similar serial components such as railroad sleepers. In the paper, a full-scale research facility is developed that keeps the individual steps of automated production in high-precision variable and opens them up to modules of any shape. The system can be used to develop the individual process steps of shuttering, reinforcing, concreting, hardening or qualifying, and to develop the overall process in a quality-assured rapid circular manner or to test meaningful alteration (adaptivity), such as in cross-sectional dimensions or shapes. Three robots are integrated for automation. They place free-form molds and built-in parts, weld reinforcements or qualify geometrically with lasers and stereo cameras or mechanically with rebound hammers. A special curing chamber with circulating air and heating plates with direct contact to the steel formwork enables controlled heat and moisture treatments for curing times of less than an hour. Melchior Deutscher","doi":"10.1002/best.202500035","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1002/best.202500035","url":null,"abstract":"<p><b>Ultra-slim prestressed carbon concrete girders – Pilot application in a school sports hall Part 1: Design and production of the components</b></p><p>As part of a pilot project, a roof structure made of prestressed carbon concrete was realized for the first time under real construction and usage conditions in Dresden. The new single-court sports hall at the 49th Primary School features a fully modular roof system consisting of prestressed carbon concrete girders and thin prestressed carbon concrete slabs. The aim was to create resource-efficient, durable, and slender structures outside of a classical research framework. Despite the absence of official standards for prestressing with carbon reinforcement, the project achieved project-specific approval (ZiE) through extensive preliminary investigations, conservative design approaches, and targeted experimental testing. The project impressively demonstrates that carbon concrete combined with prestressing offers significant advantages in terms of material savings, durability, and resource efficiency. At the same time, key challenges were identified, such as manufacturing tolerances for extremely slender cross-sections, stability verification during transport and assembly, and the development of suitable connection details for thin slabs. Special attention was given to controlling deformations and ensuring sufficient failure warning under extremely slender construction conditions. In this article, various topics of the RCM test such as precision and consistency, the chloride profile after the test and chloride binding during the test were analysed. Good repeatability data were obtained, especially for mortar samples, and the model-theoretical penetration profile of chlorides on mortar samples was confirmed. In addition, the chloride penetration front determined using μ-XRF images was compared with the regular indicator method (using silver nitrate). The methods showed good agreement. By analysing the free and total chloride concentration in conjunction with the porosity of the samples, it was possible to provide evidence of chloride binding during the RCM test. Sie bietet einmalige Vorteile gegenüber allen anderen zerstörungsfreien Methoden. Die direkte Bildgebung als Schwarz-Weiß-Foto aus dem Bauteilinnern ermöglicht die Identifikation von Einbauteilen, Bewehrung sowie Mängeln und Schäden mit sonst unerreichbarer Aussagesicherheit. Alles, was auf einem Röntgenbild identifiziert werden kann, kann außerdem millimetergenau vermessen werden. Somit können korrosionsbedingte Querschnittverluste an Bewehrung, Verpresszustände von Hüllrohren und ganze Bauteilquerschnitte sichtbar gemacht und für Qualitätssicherung, statische Nachrechnung oder eine zielführende Instandsetzungsplanung rekonstruiert werden. Der Beitrag auf Seite 378-387 erläutert anhand verschiedener Beispiele aus der Praxis, welche Möglichkeiten die Radiographie im Bauwesen bietet und wo die Anwendungsgrenzen liegen.
