These include a sense of ownership, inclusion, fairness of decisions, respect, and increased decisions acceptance by employees. However, rarely do any write about the potential negative outcomes of such organizational policies, specifically if they are deceitfully implemented. This research argues that under conditions where managers disregard the appropriate benefits of such policies, but implement them anyway for an apparent semblance of employee-consideration or due to organizational policy directives, this may lead their employees to be distrustful of such actions and consequently of the managers who implement them. This perceived deception of managers will lead to negative effects of these opportunities where employees are given a chance to voice their opinions, rather than foster positive benefits they have been designed for. In this research we studied the negative effects of such dubious implementation of this useful managerial strategy among the employees and managers of selected industries. We developed a survey to gather data from 317 respondents. Our findings suggest that the perceived negative effects of such mock opportunities results in employees’ increasingly lowered participative behaviour in such opportunities and increasingly higher conflict within organization.","PeriodicalId":53785,"journal":{"name":"Makara Hubs-Asia","volume":"20 1","pages":"101-108"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2016-01-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71342871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Communication has been identified as a critical success factor on ERP implementation in several studies, whereas, many others do not depict any relation at all. The current study, however, argues that communication regarding the benefits of ERP system is the most critical success factor for the accomplishment of ERP implementation in family-owned company in Indonesia. Empirical data from 116 ERP users were examined by using logistic regression, which reveals that communication has significant negative effect on ERP implementation. It means the more company practices closed communication, the lesser success of ERP implementation will be achieved. Findings show that closed communication leads to poor coordination between departments which reduces the speed of problem solving in the field and causes ERP implementation in PT ABC to not be fully utilized.","PeriodicalId":53785,"journal":{"name":"Makara Hubs-Asia","volume":"35 1","pages":"119-124"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2015-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71342653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research data was mostly through in-depth qualitative interviews and direct observation that have been developed into ethnographic case study. These methods were informed by a methodological approach derived from the ‘structural constructivism’ of Pierre Bourdieu. The main concept of “ dukun ” (supernatural/magic service providers) of Clifford Geertz was employed to theorize the findings and frame the argument. Within eight-month research period in Madura, I interviewed 19 dukuns and describe them using pseudo-names. Madura’s dukun phenomenon demonstrates that magic is undoubtedly one of the main strategic resources available for mobilization in Madura to gain social/economical and political standing within society. Moreover, due to the fact that Madura is known as one of the most devoted Islamic Area Strictestin Indonesia, it is important to find out how dukuns’ magical ability actually comes into being and is performed.","PeriodicalId":53785,"journal":{"name":"Makara Hubs-Asia","volume":"10 1","pages":"107-118"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2015-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71342642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this research is to examine the role of personality traits, sedentariness, and personal dilemma in predicting the intention of a particular group of urban citizens to switch from using private cars to using mass public transportation. This research uses the predictive correlational design, while the research data are analyzed using the multiple linear regression technique in order to identify the main effects and interaction effects of variables which may serve as the predictors of intention. This research involves 280 university students (111 males and 169 females, with M age = 20.90 years old and SD age = 1.943 years old) who live in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, and its surrounding urban areas as samples. The research finds that, among the Big Five personality traits, conscientiousness is the only trait which can significantly predict the intention of private car users, while sedentariness is not capable of predicting such intention. The research also finds that losses in terms of time and safety incurred from the use of private cars can lead to a much stronger intention to switch to mass public transportation. The implications of this research on the development of policies regarding transportation are elaborated in the final section of this paper.","PeriodicalId":53785,"journal":{"name":"Makara Hubs-Asia","volume":"19 1","pages":"125-143"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2015-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71211069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This condition may create conflicts if female lecturers cannot perform their duties as expected by their employers and families. These conflicts then turn into mental pressure and experiences of burnout. The aim of this study is to find out the impacts of family-work conflicts and burnout among female lecturers. The subjects of this study are 160 lecturers who are female, are married, and have children. Research data are generated using family-work conflict scale and burnout scale. The data are analyzed using regression analysis technique. The results of data analysis also show that the conflict between work and family strongly associate with burnout among female lecturers. The result findings also show that there are two dimensions of family-work conflicts which may cause burnout: behavior-based conflict dan time-based conflict. By implication, this study can help expand the understanding of burnout among female lecturers which may lead to the improvement of the quality of their working environments. In this way, better understanding of the impacts of living environments and individual characteristics on burnnouts can benefit the lecturers themselves and the institutions they work at.","PeriodicalId":53785,"journal":{"name":"Makara Hubs-Asia","volume":"19 1","pages":"87-96"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2015-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71342590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This topic is further observed with an explorative study that obtained its primary data from interviews and secondary data from various supporting literatures as well as from a number of observations. The informants were 15 visitors of each of the following shopping centers: Tunjungan Plaza and Ciputra World in Surabaya; and Mal Ciputra and Gandaria City in Jakarta. The total informant number is 60. The research found several affective factors that support the formation of place attachment: physical factors that lead to indirect place attachment, social factors or social interactions that happen in the shopping center, cultural factors, personal factors (including gender, race and ethnicity), memories and experience, place satisfaction, interaction and activity features, and time factor. The different age of shopping centers also had an effect to the factors present.","PeriodicalId":53785,"journal":{"name":"Makara Hubs-Asia","volume":"10 1","pages":"97-106"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2015-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71342605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Extant studies in this area highlighted that the ability of the leaders in implementing these transformational processes (to execute organizational functions) may have a significant impact on individual outcome especially organizational commitment. Although this relationship has been studied, the mediating role of transformational leadership has taken a less prominent role in organizational leadership model. Recent studies on organizational leadership have emphasized that transformational leadership has three important characteristics: idealized influence, individual consideration and intellectual stimulation. The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of empowerment in the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational commitment; by using 77 usable questionnaires gathered from employees who worked at a foreign manufacturing company in Free Trade Zone, Malaysia. Results of SmartPLS path model analysis confirm that empowerment does act as an important mediating variable in the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational commitment in the organizational sample. In the succeeding sections, discussion, implications and conclusion are elaborated.","PeriodicalId":53785,"journal":{"name":"Makara Hubs-Asia","volume":"19 1","pages":"75-86"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71342155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The two villages are separated only by a small stream, and they are inhabited by two different ethnic groups. Seen from the upstream of the river, the left side of the riverbank is where the Dayak lived, while at the right side of the riverbank is where the Malay ethnic resided. The Malay, as Muslims, led their live according to Islamic teaching, while the Dayak is oblivious to their neighbor’s Islamic way of life. This in turn had fostered seeds of tensions with a potential for a conflict in the social relation between the two groups. Fortunately, the potential for conflict has not erupted into an open confrontation between them. The objective of this study is to find out the background issues that breed the potency of conflict between these two ethnic groups, the Malay and the Dayak, and why it never erupted into an open confrontation.","PeriodicalId":53785,"journal":{"name":"Makara Hubs-Asia","volume":"19 1","pages":"52-62"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2015-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71342110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is assumed that the implementation of e-Bureaucracy since the leadership of Regent I Gede Winesa was able to reform the bureaucracy in Jembrana. However, the latest research of his successor’s leadership suggests that there is the potential for failure of e-Bureaucracy, ranging from a decrease in function of the J-Net tower, the non-functioning of the rural internet office, and the return to manual service. The results showed that there are two basic problems in the implementation of e-Bureaucracy. First, the lack of sustained internal reform in Jembrana. This condition is caused by the euphoria with the past government and by the lack of innovation by the Jembrana bureaucratic apparatus. This situation is caused by the limited delegation of power in the bureaucratic structure in Jembrana. Secondly, community participation is not really being optimized as the basis of external reform. The lack of community participation is caused by the strong top-down approach from government and the lack of empowerment building by local NGO. The study uses a qualitative approach supplemented with literature study, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions (FGD).","PeriodicalId":53785,"journal":{"name":"Makara Hubs-Asia","volume":"19 1","pages":"15-26"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2015-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71342033","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During crisis development, transition-exploration adolescent may have difficulty in determining career goals. Two aspects stabilizer CDMP i.e.vocational identity ([VI], internal aspect) and parents’ involvement in adolescent career issues (external aspect). This study investigated parental involvement in three forms (support, interference, lack of engagement) of the variable parental career-related behaviors (PCB). Based on previous research, the VI role to CDMP can be enhanced through the positive role parents. Therefore, this research investigated the VI role as a mediator in the PCB and CDMP relationship, each VI or PCB role directly to CDMP, and PCB role to IV. Research subjects of first semester (~19 years) students from a private university in Lippo Village-Tangerang were selected through simple random sampling. Data were analyzed with SPSS Amos v.22. Multivariate regression in path analysis showed the theoretical model of each form of PCB did fit with the empirical data. VI has a direct role to CDMP (38.00, 32.00, and 35.00%). Every form of PCB shows a direct role to CDMP (19.00, -13.00, and -15.00%). PCB interference and lack of engagement contribute to VI at -23.00 and -15.00%. VI of each PCB form shows no role as a mediator in the PCB and CDMP relationship on exploration-transition university students.","PeriodicalId":53785,"journal":{"name":"Makara Hubs-Asia","volume":"19 1","pages":"1-14"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2015-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71342094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
