We therefore examined the effects of surface acting, emotional exhaustion, and emotional intelligence on psychological well-being in a moderated mediation model. Based on a sample of 307 Nigerian prison officers, results showed that: the direct effect of surface acting on psychological well-being was significant; emotional exhaustion mediated the negative relationship between surface acting and psychological well-being; emotional intelligence moderated the relationship between surface acting and psychological well-being; emotional intelligence moderated the relationship between surface acting and emotional exhaustion; the link between emotional exhaustion and psychological well-being was moderated by emotional intelligence; and the indirect effect of surface acting on psychological well-being via emotional exhaustion was significant. This study has important theoretical and practical implications for service organisations wishing to buffer the deleterious effects of surface acting and emotional exhaustion on psychological well-being.","PeriodicalId":52483,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Work Organisation and Emotion","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43959435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It contributes to the existing literature on five counts: we include more than twice as many studies that have more than triple the sample size than previous meta-analyses, we employed a more suited methodology, we followed the criterion driven-strategy, we imposed rigorous inclusion criteria, and we investigated a series of moderators of EI and job performance relationships not studied before. Results showed that EI had operational predictive validity of 0.45 (k = 99, N = 17,889) and self-reported ability EI measures proved to be the most valid. In addition, we found that the job context and the job performance measures types moderates this correlation and job position of incumbents proved to partially moderate the EI validity. The results support the overall validity of both ability and trait models of EI.","PeriodicalId":52483,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Work Organisation and Emotion","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48438375","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are striving even harder to position a right employee for a right job-fit in this outcome-based approach adopted by employers. Thus stating the aim of the study, how much impact emotional intelligence has in predicting the performance of employees in customer centric organisations in the presence of demographic variables. This research work is carried out in Punjab with 184 frontline public and private sector bank employees using a structured questionnaire with structured equation modelling (SEM) technique. The outcome of the study reveals, there is a significant correlation/association between the emotional intelligence and job performance. There were other interesting findings with the direction of relationship among the sub-constructs, where utilisation of emotions and managing own emotions has a significant and positive impact on the job performance level of bank employees. Altogether, this study contributes to the pool of EI literature with implications to the HR professionals in Indian banking selection boards striving for employees with higher performance levels.","PeriodicalId":52483,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Work Organisation and Emotion","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43827625","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
