Given this, the\u0000 current study aimed to explore the ways Nicholson (1898) and Arberry (1967) dealt with translating culture-bound terms and Quranic\u0000 allusions in the translations of Rumi’s mystical poems in Divan-e-Shams-e- Tabrizi into English and then identify\u0000 the textual relationships between the two. To do so, the comparative model of research and the notion of tertium\u0000 comparationis was used. The strategies used by (re)translators for translating culture-bound terms and Quranic\u0000 allusions were first identified and categorized in a selection of twenty poems from Divan-e-Shams-e- Tabrizi. The\u0000 study’s findings showed strong filial relationships between the two versions, where both had used cultural adaptation and\u0000 explicitation of cultural-bound terms by using the addition strategy used in their endnotes. This study examines Sartre’s\u0000 literary works published before 1950, by which most of his renowned ones have been published in France. Divided into Japanese and\u0000 Chinese sections, it first elaborates on the state of translation of Sartre’s literary works in East Asia from 1938 to 1975 before\u0000 explaining the phenomenon of multiple translated versions and their differences. The focus then turns to two specific translation\u0000 cases, one in Japanese and another in Chinese, as examples to illustrate the relation between the vibrant scene of translation\u0000 attempts within the East Asian region and the wartime situations of the Second World War and the Cold War era. In the context of L1 translation being\u0000 the majority, allusions can be puzzles that cause “cultural bumps” for translators unfamiliar with the source culture and\u0000 language. It is a concern whether translators can accurately and appropriately handle allusions, e.g., proper-name and key-phrase\u0000 allusions. This paper focused on the novice translator’s utilization of translation strategies in both directions of translation\u0000 to find out how they deal with proper-name allusions and what might influence their choice of strategies. The results suggest that\u0000 the translators have distinct preferences for the strategies used to translate proper-name allusions in both directions of\u0000 translation. This study uses a comparable bilingual corpus of original Spanish and Italian series, and a parallel trilingual\u0000 corpus which includes the target Spanish and Italian versions of an analogous French series in order to investigate the use of\u0000 such voices in national and foreign serial products of both cultures. The frequency of use per minute and the repertoire of terms\u0000 inserted in the series of the two countries have been compared. The results show that the number of occurrences per minute in the\u0000 Spanish original fictional language is much higher than in the Italian one, where this kind of words and expressions are often\u0000 excluded. Yet millennia ago, China-bound\u0000 relay interpreting, chongyi 重譯,\u0000 could symbolize auspiciousness, often foreshadowed via anomalies in plants or astrology. Its subtle ideological associations can\u0000 be inferred by analyzing related tokens of usage. Drawing on texts and treatises circulated and written before seventh-century\u0000 China, this article reports, from a close analysis of four texts, a rhetorical pattern on the formulaic references to\u0000 chongyi. Interestingly, these texts all depict “diplomatic visits to China through chongyi”\u0000 as an event validating an auspicious sign in nature spotted earlier. My analysis suggests that the documentation of\u0000 chongyi bears more of a figuratively auspicious, rather than a sheer mediating, connotation. The elevation of\u0000 a relay interpreting act to a cultural icon or ideological dimension is ubiquitous in the Han dynasty (202 BCE–220 CE) writings,\u0000 which served to leverage the state-sanctioned Confucian and divination overtones to reinforce the emperor’s mandate.
