Restrictive diets have been proposed for obesity treatment, including a ketogenic diet that are high in lipids, moderate in proteins, and low in carbohydrates. In recent years, there has been criticism of this diet because of the reduction in fat-free mass and, consequently, a reduction in basal energy expenditure, which is considered negative in obesity treatment. However, resistance training is known to promote skeletal muscle hypertrophy. The hypothesis for this review was: "Resistance training is sufficient to maintain lean mass during diets that cause ketosis." Despite the slight reduction in lean mass identified in the meta-analysis, some authors reported no loss in physical performance. Others suggested that this difference in lean mass is associated with water loss in the participants, which aligns with a few studies that reported a final phase with carbohydrate reintroduction into the diet. Our results indicated physical exercise was an important tool for maintaining lean mass in individuals who consumed carbohydrate-restricted diets that cause ketosis.\u0000Keywords: high-fat diet; carbohydrate-restricted diet; body composition; physical activity; muscle hypertrophy.

Emerging wearable sensing technology may offer a promising solution. This protocol paper describes a pilot study investigating the use of a customised wearable multi-sensor wristband, which is specifically designed to monitor multiple physiological and behavioural responses related to eating and digestion events for dietary monitoring.\u0000Methods and Analysis: This feasibility study will recruit 10 healthy volunteers from healthy volunteer databases and public advertisements, with informed consent required prior to participation. Participants will attend two main study visits at a clinical research facility, consuming pre-defined high- and low-calorie meals in a randomised order. Wearable sensors will be worn throughout the eating episodes to track hand-to-mouth movements and physiological changes, including skin temperature (Tsk), heart rate (HR), and oxygen saturation (SpO2). These sensor readings will be validated against a traditional bedside monitor which also measures blood pressure. Blood samples will be collected via intravenous cannula to measure blood glucose, insulin, and hormone levels. Relationship between eating episodes (e.g., occurrence, duration, use of cutlery, high- vs. low-calorie) with hand movement patterns, as well as physiological and blood biochemical responses, will be analysed. The results will inform the feasibility of using measures from wearable multi-sensors as indicators of food and energy intake.\u0000Ethics and Dissemination: Ethical approval has been granted by London - Westminster Research Ethics Committee. REC reference: 23/PR/1379. Written informed consent will be obtained from all participants. Findings will be disseminated through peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and seminar presentations. Despite its negative health outcomes, prelacteal feeding prevails in Papua New Guinea (PNG). This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with prelacteal feeding among women in PNG.\u0000Design and setting\u0000A population-based cross-sectional study based on Demographic and Health Survey data\u0000Setting\u0000Papua New Guinea\u0000Participants\u0000A total weighted sample of 4399 women was included in the study.\u0000Main outcome measures\u0000Prelacteal feeding, modeled using multivariable logistic regression.\u0000Results\u0000About 10% (95% CI: 9 to 11) of women provided prelacteal feeds to their infants in PNG. The most frequently reported prelacteal feed was plain water (71.7%), followed by grains (eg, noodles) (47.1%), dark green leafy vegetables (42.1%), and soup (39.7%). Women with no formal (AOR 1.4, 95% CI: 1.0 to 3.0) or primary education (AOR 1.5, 95% CI: 1.0 to 2.9), from the Islands region (AOR 2.3, 95% CI: 1.5 to 3.5), who had a cesarean section (AOR 4.1, 95% CI: 2.4 to 7.2), and who had given birth at home or in the village (AOR 3.7, 95% CI: 2.1 to 6.8) had higher odds of providing prelacteal feeds. No statistically significant association was found between immediate newborn skin-to-skin contact after birth and prelacteal feeding.\u0000Conclusion\u0000Our study underscores the role of sociodemographic and healthcare system factors in prelacteal feeding. Strengthening healthcare providers' capacity to increase mothers' awareness of optimal breastfeeding and promote more health facility births is warranted. Comprehensive breastfeeding education should also be promoted at antenatal clinics and during outreach healthcare activities.
