According to the authors, there were organisations like merchant courts in large Kumyk villages, which is confirmed in the documents of Kizlyar commandant's archive. At the same time, court proceedings related to trade and debts were conducted with the participation of merchants, but according to the established norms of customary law among the Kumyks. It is stated that in the course of the social system evolution, the Kumyks had developed surprisingly stable system of consideration of disputed cases based on the norms of adat law. It is emphasised that during the period under study, the main type of evidence of a crime was an oath with accomplices. The authors come to the conclusion that the sentences of the adat courts were of a strict nature for everyone, regardless of the social position occupied by the defendant.","PeriodicalId":498361,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Kostromskogo gosudarstvennogo universiteta imeni N.A. This article is devoted to the study of culinary names of the historical region of Alsace, whose cuisine as a significant cultural phenomenon allows us to trace the functional peculiarities of linguistic units and their transformations. The authors analyse the lexical units of the French language, the German language and the Alsatian dialect related to the concept of ‟food”. The accumulated empirical material makes it possible to categorise the corresponding words and phrases, as well as to describe the most common types of transformation of Alsatian culinary names under the influence of the French language and culture. These types include calquing, selection of a duplicate in the recipient language, loan-words, descriptive translation, phonetic and morphological assimilation of the notion, etc. The researchers come to the following conclusion – regional culinary names represent language material which deserves special attention for the study of the ethno-cultural component of the gastronomic discourse. Gastronomic terminology as a part of culture is undergoing constant transformation due to its dynamism and predisposition to language crossing. The overlap of cultures in the border regions creates a special linguocultural model that reflects the boundaries of interlingual interaction.","PeriodicalId":498361,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Kostromskogo gosudarstvennogo universiteta imeni N.A. The term “motivated question” is used to denote an utterance where the question-part is preceded by an affirmative part containing facts or evaluation. Evaluation expression in the assertive part is analysed in the context of communicative strategies of the journalist. One of the strategies is the strategy of maintaining neutrality which on the language level is realised in three ways. Firstly, the journalist can refer to the evaluation expressed by the interviewee or another person; secondly, the passive verb-form can be used; thirdly, the interviewer can use the formal subject “there”. However, if in the first case the journalist emphasises the subjective character of the expressed evaluation, the latter techniques let the journalist present the situation as an objective fact or a widespread opinion. Expressing its personal evaluation, the journalist tends to weaken intensity of the said, thus making the utterance sound less categorical in order to optimise the process of communication with the immediate interlocutor.","PeriodicalId":498361,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Kostromskogo gosudarstvennogo universiteta imeni N.A. The problem is investigated on the material of more than 800 texts of mythological stories from the collection of the folklore and ethnographic archive of Pskov State University. Two levels of indicators were identified by a continuous sampling of narrative means of representing reality. The dominant marker of the zone of reality of the first level was the word truth with its lexico-semantic, modal and syntactic intensifiers, which create a semantic context for the nuclear name. The second level of indicators of event reality is expressed by means of assurance formulas: honestly, by God, and the use of alternative type phrases: (either) true or false, (either) truth or not. The “zero” indicator of the reality of an irrational event in the narrator’s discourse can be explained both by the emotional and psychological mood of the narrator and by the communicative behaviour of the listener (collector of folklore). Conclusions on the dominance of lexemes as representatives of the zone of reality have been verified using electronic means.","PeriodicalId":498361,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Kostromskogo gosudarstvennogo universiteta imeni N.A. The purpose of the study is to identify the structural-semantic and communicative-pragmatic properties of the key metaphors actively involved in the organisation of narration, the creation of narrative polyphony and psychologism in the depiction of characters and events, the formation of textual meanings, and the explication of the conceptual content of the work. The study of metaphors in a contextual environment is based on the genre and stylistic features and narrative characteristics of literary prose. Key metaphors with a high narrative potential serve as important means of forming a narrative structure: with their help, character and event development is carried out, the action is put forward in time and space, and the semantic dominants of the text are created. The author of the article gives a brief review of linguistic studies of metaphors in the system of language and speech, and she outlines the theoretical foundations of modern narratology. The article also singles out the main features of metaphors and looks into the key metaphors in different fragments of the text. The author of the article elicits numerous comparative constructions, built on the man vs. wildlife likening. The article also characterises phraseological metaphorical means of creating psychologism of the narrative. Creative transformations of fixed expressions carried out by replacing components within the expression, reflect the individual speech features of the characters of the story. In conclusion, the article underlines the role of the key metaphors in the formation of the narrative characteristics of the text and the structural and semantic organisation of literary prose. Semantic synergy of lexico-phraseological and syntactic figurative means creates the metaphorical field “Man and Nature” explicating the conceptual content of the work, reflecting the author’s position and forming text modality.","PeriodicalId":498361,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Kostromskogo gosudarstvennogo universiteta imeni N.A. In the story under consideration, the descriptions of nature do not merely serve the purpose of creating a background for the events. Unveiling the emotional bond between the protagonist of the story and the landscape around him, the author shows the reader how much the character is affected by the beauty of nature. Recollections of the past evoked by a beautiful landscape around him make the protagonist think about his present life, which results in a feeling of frustration leading to an emotional outburst, a protest against life. The contrast between the beauty of nature and the ugliness of people’s lives helps the reader understand the depth of the protagonist’s despair caused by his unrealized dreams and his inability to be master of his own life.","PeriodicalId":498361,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Kostromskogo gosudarstvennogo universiteta imeni N.A. The purpose of the study is to analyse the structural-semantic organisation of this text in the aspect of the conceptually realisation of adamism as the ideological basis of the poet’s creative work. The analysis of the poetics of the poem dedicated to the comprehension of the final achievements in the life of King Alexander the Great (the conquest campaign to India and its consequences) shows, that Mikhail Zenkevich conceptualises world history as realisation of anthropological comprehension of the natural origins of the world order. In the narrative structure of the poem, which consists of two plot parts, the deep mechanism of subordination of a human to the “dark” ontological foundations of the universe is revealed. In the 1st part of the text, which tells about the contact of Alexander the Great with the Indian lands he conquered, the approach to the border of the natural-mystical region of the world is explicated. The 2nd part represents the deep consequences of such contact – transformation of the external secrets of a foreign country into the internal “dark” secrets of the human “self”. The attempt to conquer India by King Alexander III of Macedon turns into enslavement (“poisoning”) his personality with primordial chaos and leads the hero to madness. It is concluded that in Mikhail Zenkevich’s “adamistic” mythopoetics the “historical” (royal) man invariably turns out to be “natural” Adam, who feels his “dark relatedness” with the chaos of primordial nature.","PeriodicalId":498361,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Kostromskogo gosudarstvennogo universiteta imeni N.A. One of these lexemes is the borrowed word tutor, which is currently characterised by a high frequency of use in connection with the active introduction of the tutor profession into the educational system of Russia. This article examines the features of the semantics of the word tutor based on lexicographic sources, the National Corpus of the Russian language, texts of scientific articles on pedagogic topics. During the study, it was found that in modern Russian the lexeme tutor is used to name a wide range of people in the Russian educational system. At the same time, there is no description of the above-mentioned word in lexicographic sources with the definition of its meaning at different stages and forms of the educational system, in connection with which there is a vague understanding of its content. The paper defines the meanings of this name of a person, taking into account the peculiarities of its functioning in different speech spheres. The conclusion is made about the transformation of the semantics of the word tutor, which is associated with the introduction, and later with the expansion of tutor activity in the system of education and upbringing in Russia. As a result of the analysis of examples of the combination of the noun tutor, the spheres of its functioning are determined.","PeriodicalId":498361,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Kostromskogo gosudarstvennogo universiteta imeni N.A. Émile Gaboriau acted as the founder of this genre through his series of novels about Monsieur Lecoq [starting with the novel – “The Lerouge Case” (“L’Affaire Lerouge”, 1865)]. His novels incorporate the criminal narrative features and social, psychological, historical, and political constructs. The author of the article analyses little-known literary works of the similar theme, written in the same period and far less known, such as the novels: “The Drama of the Rue de la Paix» (“Le Drame de la Rue de la Paix”) by Louis Marc Adolphe Belot and “The Crime Factory!” (“La Fabrique de crimes!”) by Paul Henri Corentin Féval (both written in 1866), as well as the stories: “The Black Pearl” (“La Perle noire”) by Victorien Sardou, 1861 and “The Killer of Albertine Renouf” (“Le Meurtrier d’Albertine Renouf. Les Derniers jours de Don Juan”) by Henri Laurent Rivière, 1865. All of them are indicative of the increased interest in criminal plots among the readership of the 1860s and, in a varying degree, have laid the basis for the new genre paradigmatics (crime, investigation process, investigating agency, interaction between a professional detective and an amateur one, wrong and right crime versions, etc.). The author of the article reach a conclusion that the activation of the description by the authors of the plot of Edgar Allan Poe’s canonical short story “The Murders in the Rue Morgue” is combined with solely “feuilletonistic” narrative resources (including melodramatic ones) were extensively used in the detective fiction, and the extremes of fashion for criminal plots were exposed to parody in Belot and Féval’s works.","PeriodicalId":498361,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Kostromskogo gosudarstvennogo universiteta imeni N.A.
