This study fills a gap in the existing theoretical and empirical literature on shipbuilding price forecasting by collecting and analyzing weekly price data from October 4, 1996 to September 30, 2022, covering 17,641 observations. The study employs a CNN-BILSTM-AM model, which combines a CNN, BILSTM, AM, for shipbuilding price prediction. The findings suggest that this ensemble model effectively captures the non-linear and time-varying characteristics of shipbuilding price fluctuations. It demonstrates good adaptability to random sample selection, data frequency, and structural disruptions in the sample. This model boasts an impressive predictive accuracy, with an R <sup>2</sup> value of 94.3 %, surpassing many standalone, composite, and traditional forecasting approaches. This study proposes a CNN-BILSTM-AM integrated model that significantly improves the shipbuilding price prediction accuracy and extends the application of machine learning in shipping economics. While the literature has widely examined various effects of HSR, it is still rare to examine its aggregate transportation effect and the effects on road transportation. We constructed panel data from 256 Chinese prefectural-level cities between 2001 and 2019 and estimated the transportation effects of HSR using a difference-in-differences approach. Our results reveal that HSR connection does not have a significant effect on overall and highway transportation outcomes, but it increases railway passenger volumes by 36.3 % and reduces airport freight and passenger throughputs by around 45 % and 80 %, respectively. Further studies show that HSR complements highways to improve passenger transportation and substitutes conventional trains for transporting passengers. HSR also reduces buses by about 11 % but increases taxis by about 7 %. These results suggest that HSR plays more in substituting other transportation and restructuring China's transportation system.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":47453,"journal":{"name":"Research in Transportation Business and Management","volume":"59 ","pages":"Article 101250"},"PeriodicalIF":4.1,"publicationDate":"2024-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143140353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, this study employs machine learning methods to explore the effects of TOD on economic vitality under COVID-19 and recalibrate existing TOD planning models and design principles. Based on multi-source data of Hong Kong, it measures economic vitality of MTR station areas with life service reviews and depicts built environment therein from three dimensions including node, tie, and place. It discovers that (1) the outbreak of COVID-19 impaired the economic vitality effects of TOD; (2) the global relative importance of MTR station centrality and ground space index declined during the outbreak and bounced back afterwards, meanwhile, that of street centrality, street betweenness, street detour ratio, and green space coverage increased and that of bus density, MTR station betweenness, and average building height decreased; (3) the economic vitality effects of TOD were nonlinear, and the threshold values and effective ranges of built environment variables remained constant across the time; (4) the economic vitality effects of TOD were moderated by the pandemic. However, it has faced criticism and pressure due to its harmful effects on the planet, leading airlines to adopt measures to protect the environment. As environmental responsibility can be a source of competitive advantages resulting from an improvement in image and internal technical and operational efficiency, it could increase their financial performance. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyse whether their financial performance increases as a result of the competitive advantages gained from the effect of their environmental attitude on the environmental image of passengers, sustainable asset management, and employee ecological behaviour. Using the panel data technique for the 2010–2019 period, a comparison is made of certified and non-certified passenger airlines, differentiated according to ownership, routes they operate, fares, belonging to an alliance and the airline's world region. On the whole, the evidence obtained shows that while the effect of certification on the environmental image of passengers and on sustainable asset management does not increase the financial performance of certified airlines, it does so partially with respect to employee ecological performance. It could be affirmed that the funds and efforts allocated to being more respectful towards the environment do not lead to competitive advantages that could have a greater impact on financial performance.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":47453,"journal":{"name":"Research in Transportation Business and Management","volume":"58 ","pages":"Article 101246"},"PeriodicalIF":4.1,"publicationDate":"2024-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142746057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents two scenarios exploring older people's willingness to pay (WTP) for annual tickets for local public transport (LPT) and examines the impact of factors such as cost, time, and comfort. These insights could help address the challenges of travel in ageing societies. A segmentation analysis based on the mean values of the two WTP scenarios (status quo and improved services) was conducted, followed by linear regression modelling to understand how older adults' socio-demographic traits, perceptions, and travel behaviour affect their WTP.</div><div>Our findings suggest that the pricing of the annual pass (€345 at the time of survey) exceeds the WTP indicated by respondents. The mean WTP for the status quo level of service (€221.36) was much lower than the WTP if service levels were improved (€304.07). Women were found to be more likely to use LPT but also tended to live alone and have lower incomes. Off-peak hours, particularly in the afternoon, were also associated with a higher WTP. This research is important in the context of Europe's ageing population, highlighting the need for more inclusive transport options for older adults. Public transport authorities (PTAs) should explore more tailored approaches to pricing and service provision. It is imperative to balance the competing goals of cost recovery, equity, and service attractiveness to encourage older people's uptake of LPT services, while maintaining accessibility and wellbeing.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":47453,"journal":{"name":"Research in Transportation Business and Management","volume":"58 ","pages":"Article 101243"},"PeriodicalIF":4.1,"publicationDate":"2024-11-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142723144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study proposes an air-rail intermodal Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) approach, which recommends incorporating High-Speed Railway (HSR) transportation into the management of aircraft recovery from airport station disruptions. The structural properties of the proposed model indicate employing a Lagrangian relaxation with subgradient methods to effectively obtain near-optimal solutions. A framework for developing Lagrangian heuristics (heuristics based on Lagrangian relaxation and sub-gradient optimization) is proposed to obtain solutions. Additionally, the study proposes a modified aircraft recovery model considering the downstream effects of flight delays and cancellations during the airport disruption recovery period and introduces slack variables to linearize the model. The computational experiments conducted in this study demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed air-rail intermodal strategy for managing airport disruptions. To narrow the research gap and enrich literature, based on the bike-sharing context, this study explores user's sustainable usage behavior in the bike-sharing economy business model. On the basis of Push-Pull-Mooring (PPM) model and the survey data collected from 1029 shared bike users in China, we find that user's sustainable intention of using shared bike can be influenced by push, pull and mooring factors. Specifically, push (e.g., social norm and government and enterprise regulation) and pull (e.g., moral norm and perceived behavioral control) factors significantly promote sustainable usage intention, while mooring factor (e.g., inertia) significantly inhibit it. Meanwhile, mooring factor also weakens the positive influence of push and pull factor on sustainable usage intention. Furthermore, this research further reveals that there is a disparity between sustainable intention and sustainable behavior of using shared bike and uncovers that the “intention-behavior” discrepancy can be bridged by providing punitive measures. Additionally, this research uncovers that user's gender, age and monthly income do not significantly promote sustainable usage intention and behavior, user's educational level significantly promotes sustainable usage intention while not for sustainable usage behavior, and the frequency of using shared bike significantly promotes both sustainable usage intention and behavior. A significant portion of global logistics chains relies on maritime transport in the initial phase, followed by road, rail, or river transport in the subsequent continental phase. Road transport, however, is associated with various ecological and operational drawbacks. In contrast, intermodal transport (IT) provides an efficient solution by integrating multiple modes of transportation. The key challenge of IT applications remains the determination of the best combination of transport modes, technologies, and routes. Consequently, this paper aims to identify the most favorable alternative to the intermodal transport chain (ITC) for the import of tires from China to Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H). Since selecting the most favorable alternative to the ITC requires an analysis of conflicting objectives and criteria, the use of multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) becomes essential in addressing this challenge. The paper presents a new MCDM model that combines the fuzzy DELPHI analytical hierarchy process (fuzzy DAHP) and the fuzzy Axial-Distance-based Aggregated Measurement (fuzzy ADAM) methods. The applicability and effectiveness of the model were demonstrated and confirmed by a case study. The results indicate that the best variants are those that combine maritime, rail, and road transportation through the Port of Koper (with a ranking value of 0.339) and Rijeka (0.289), followed by the variants that combine maritime and road transportation through the same ports (0.241 and 0.222, respectively).
