Although pilots' attitudes towards incident reporting have attracted international research interest, similar research in Greece—a member state of ICAO and EASA—remains very limited, leaving the operational, regulatory, and cultural factors influencing Greek pilots' reporting practices largely unexplored. This research utilized qualitative methods, including semi-structured interviews (<em>N</em> = 18) with military, commercial and general aviation pilots operating in Greece, to explore their views and attitudes towards incident reporting. A detailed representation of the participants' views was facilitated through Thematic Analysis and certain characteristics of Content analysis based on their narratives. The findings of this study aligned with previous research as fear of blame, stigmatization and career progression concerns were among the most substantial barriers to incident reporting, emphasizing that the under-reporting issue persists. Novel insights included the tendency of participants deriving from the commercial sector to be more willing to report safety events, as a result of their aircraft being fitted with a flight data monitoring device. Additionally, participants viewed high reporting frequency as a practice that could draw organizational attention to them and was therefore perceived as a deterrent. Differences between military, commercial and general aviation participants were minimal, indicating a common attitude towards reporting in all three sectors. Recommendations from participants emphasized fostering a just culture over a blame-centric one, advocating for a trustworthy reporting system where fear of punishment does not deter reporting, and where valuable outcomes are shared to boost motivation and strengthen their reporting culture. It is envisaged that enhanced safety-related education should be fostered among pilots, managers and top executive leadership with special focus on the value of incident reporting so as to maximize the benefits of such systems and minimize under-reporting.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":47453,"journal":{"name":"Research in Transportation Business and Management","volume":"59 ","pages":"Article 101309"},"PeriodicalIF":4.1,"publicationDate":"2025-02-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143379454","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, few studies have examined door-to-door HSR accessibility and disparities for different parts of HSR journeys within major metropolitan areas. Using train timetables and intracity transport data, this study analyzes the disparities in HSR accessibility in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD). HSR accessibility patterns for cities of different levels are further analyzed for passengers using private or public transportation to connect with HSR stations. These findings highlight disparities in HSR accessibility across cities. Time spent on intracity travel constitutes a significant portion of the entire journey and it accounts for up to half of the total travel time when using public transportation. Cities of a higher administrative level tend to have a relatively larger percentage of their total travel time on intracity travel, which diminishes the overall efficiency of intercity HSR services. In county-level cities, substantial inequality in private and public transport connections is found. This study underlines the significance of inner-city transport connections to HSR stations and the provision of public transport services. Proximity to metro stations revitalizes surrounding areas, leading to enhancement of commercial activities in metro catchment areas. However, studies on commercial gentrification induced by newly built metros are severely insufficient with both subjective and objective lenses. This study delves into the commercial gentrification catalyzed by the operation of Metro Line 7 in Shenzhen, utilizing a novel approach that integrates subjective street view imagery perception scores with objective nighttime light data. By examining areas within 15-min walking catchments of metro stations, the study identifies a marked upsurge in commercial activities following the metro's operation in October 2016. Objective data indicates a rise in nighttime light intensity from an average of 37.28 units during construction to 49.23 units post-operation. Simultaneously, subjective perception scores provide insights into perceived changes in urban commercial gentrification. A steady rise of integrated trend is noticed after 2016, showing a vital impact of newly built metro line on commercial gentrification. The study employs a combination of advanced machine learning techniques and urban analysis to offer a comprehensive perspective of the commercial gentrification trend shifts driven by metro expansion. The rapid technological development in automotive industries create strong expansions of several manufacturers, such as Chinese automakers, to expand their business. Nevertheless, Chinese automakers face challenges in establishing a strong presence attributed to the “Made in China” stigma among consumers compared to other car manufacturers such as Japan automakers. This study aimed to analyze the factors influencing Indonesian car consumers' purchase decisions through a stated choice experiment. With D-efficient design we developed the scenario based on nine alternatives and seven attributes. A total of 590 respondents in Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya completed a questionnaire, consisting of two parts: scenario selection, and socio-demographic information. For scenario selection, respondents chose 1 out of 9 available alternatives, excluding opt-out, each in eight different scenarios. In the socio-demographic information, respondents were asked to fill in their profile, including age, gender, origin, educational level, type of job, and monthly income. We used the mixed multinomial logit model as the analysis tool for statistical measurement. The findings show that Indonesian car consumer exhibit a lower preference for Chinese cars compared to Japanese cars. Socio-economic variables, such as age and occupation, also influence car-buying decisions. Moreover, Indonesian consumers place varying significance to attributes when evaluating alternatives, with engine capacity, fuel efficiency, safety system, and exterior-interior design, and price being significant factors shaping preferences. While price is crucial, the overall value proposition of the car guides consumer decisions. Chinese car manufacturers should enhance these attributes to appeal to Indonesian market and expand their market share.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":47453,"journal":{"name":"Research in Transportation Business and Management","volume":"59 ","pages":"Article 101307"},"PeriodicalIF":4.1,"publicationDate":"2025-02-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143139566","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One major challenge in the deployment of demand-responsive schedules, nevertheless, is the uncertainty they bring in the planning of resources as they follow the daily waste demand. This is undesirable in real-life operations as it makes it difficult to reserve resources and ensure the stability of operational processes. Therefore, waste collection scheduling approaches need to be devised that are not only demand-responsive but also supply-friendly. In this paper, we present a solution approach for the waste collection vehicle routing problem in an IoT context (IoT-WCVRP) that focuses on these requirements. We demonstrate its applicability through a case study of Rotterdam in The Netherlands, where real-life household waste data are used and the observed waste collection operations in the city are compared against the optimized outcomes of the model. The application results show that our IoT-WCVRP approach achieves the stated demand and supply trade-off, increases the vehicle utilization rates by 5%, and reduces emissions and travelled kilometres by 6% and 8% respectively.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":47453,"journal":{"name":"Research in Transportation Business and Management","volume":"59 ","pages":"Article 101302"},"PeriodicalIF":4.1,"publicationDate":"2025-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143139567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

About one third of the freight-related CO2 emissions in the Netherlands relates to urban logistics, consisting of both vans and trucks. Although electrification is a feasible solution, delivery models that not only focus on reducing the carbon footprint, but also the spatial footprint are important. A one-to-one replacement of diesel vehicles with electric vehicles does not reduce urban logistics' spatial footprint in densifying cities nor the delivery vans' perceived nuisance. This paper examines the impact of alternative delivery models in the parcel- and home delivery segment in four future scenarios on CO2 emissions, vehicle kilometres and number and type of vehicles used (2030). Analyses are based on data from three companies in a large metropolitan region in the Netherlands. The results show the impact of vehicles fleets electrification, transhipment in consolidation points and a network of pickup points. This study illustrates that developing alternative last mile networks can result in a decrease in vehicle (van) movements, and with that a serious decrease in emissions. Escalating construction and operational expenses have resulted in persistent financial losses for HSR operating companies. This paper introduces a nonlinear optimization approach for HSR operations, focusing on line planning problem (LPP) and differential pricing problem (DPP). It takes into account the boundedly rational choice behavior of stochastic users. Taking into account the differences in passenger choice behavior, latent class analysis (LCA) is used to classify passengers. Three influencing factors, namely departure time, travel time and fare, were selected to establish a utility model of parallel trains with three reference points, and the perceived cost of parallel trains by heterogeneous passengers was characterized through the prospect value. A bi-level planning model has been developed to optimize both lines and fares. The primary objective is to maximize the profits of the HSR operating companies while reducing the perceived costs to passengers. Operational lines and frequencies are generated using possible line sets (PLSs) as a foundation. To identify the most effective lines and fare strategies, a dual approach is employed, combining particle swarm optimization (PSO) with sensitivity analysis (SA). Data collection was conducted through a semi-structured questionnaire, which was distributed to graduates via SMS, email, and social media platforms. This analysis reveals the following: Seafarers are primarily motivated by various themes including financial income, passion for the sea/professional, respect/professional reputation, opportunity to see the world/knowing different cultures and social rights. Family, professional, psycho-social, and financial reasons were identified as demotivation themes leading to leaving the sea. It has been observed that seafarers, whose average age is only 28.5, criticise their profession using serious expressions and intend to leave the maritime industry within 1 to 5 years. Considering the criticisms of seafarers, comprehensive policy arrangements have been proposed to improve the sources of motivation and reduce demotivation themes in order to ensure professional continuity in the industry.
