An online questionnaire was used to collect data from a sample of 584 Portuguese citizens. The quantitative analysis was performed through the Partial Least Square (PLS) model. The PLS explored the relationships between the constructs of dispositional optimism, risk preferences, own lifestyle and lifestyle solidarity. Linear regression analysis was also performed to identify the associations between respondents’ sociodemographic and economic characteristics and the above constructs. In general, respondents revealed high levels of lifestyle solidarity. Notwithstanding, we also found that: (i) while optimists and pessimists revealed less lifestyle solidarity, risk-prone revealed higher; (ii) while optimists were more prevention-orientation with their health behaviours, risk-seekers were less; (iii) more caregivers with their own lifestyles have less lifestyle solidarity, and (iv) while optimists were more risk-acceptant, pessimists were more risk-averse. This study presents the first evidence of how dispositional optimism and risk orientation affect the support of lifestyle solidarity and own lifestyles.
","PeriodicalId":47435,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Knowledge Economy","volume":"10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.3,"publicationDate":"2024-01-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139459262","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"经济学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this paper is twofold. First, inspired by the relational turn in economic geography, this paper reviews the driving forces of relational knowledge sourcing in clusters. Particularly, it discusses the critical factors of inter-organizational knowledge sourcing embedded at node (agency), dyadic (proximity), and structural (network micro-determinants) levels. In doing so, it goes beyond the cluster literature and builds on concepts and evidence in multiple related fields ranging from network science to behavioral studies, to relational inequality theory and evolutionary economic geography. Second, it synthesizes and extends the scholarly debate on knowledge sourcing in clusters by addressing a multilevel perspective. This article raises multiple theoretically informed research questions for future empirical cluster studies and underlines potential implications for cluster and place-based innovation policies.
","PeriodicalId":47435,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Knowledge Economy","volume":"40 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.3,"publicationDate":"2024-01-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139459263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"经济学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Spatial Bayesian propensity score modeling (BSPSM) analysis is used to estimate means for specific geographic populations using spatial Bayesian models. The results show that rising temperatures and drought have a negative impact on the yield of these crops, thus compromising food security and livelihoods of African populations. Adverse effects include decreased productivity, increased crop losses, and altered grain quality. In light of this challenge, it is important to take adaptive measures to mitigate the effects of rising temperatures. Recommended measures include the adoption of resilient agricultural practices, such as the use of heat-adapted seeds, efficient irrigation, and the establishment of agroforestry systems. In addition, risk management strategies such as crop insurance and crop diversification are essential to improve farmers’ resilience to climate change.
","PeriodicalId":47435,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Knowledge Economy","volume":"40 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.3,"publicationDate":"2024-01-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139459228","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"经济学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The quality of higher education and college students’ satisfaction with educational management, along with the factors influencing them, has long been pivotal concerns in the realm of education. Within the academic community, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of assessing higher education management through the lens of student satisfaction. However, in today’s educational landscape, students hold diverse opinions regarding teaching quality within colleges. To address this situation, this paper employs Bayesian statistical methods to investigate and analyze the determinants of college students’ satisfaction with educational management. The study further utilizes factor analysis, regression analysis, and evaluation scoring methods to discern the influencing factors behind educational management satisfaction. The findings reveal that 36.60% of students possess a general understanding of the subject, while 14% have no understanding at all, thereby impacting their comprehension of teaching management. Additionally, insufficient attention to teaching management information affects students’ cognizance of this domain, with 62% of students occasionally paying attention and 35% never doing so. These current circumstances inevitably affect students’ evaluations of teaching management satisfaction. Consequently, higher education institutions must establish more direct lines of communication with students and employ methods that students are willing to engage with, utilizing multi-channel and multi-level approaches to elevate students’ cognitive grasp of teaching management.
","PeriodicalId":47435,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Knowledge Economy","volume":"48 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.3,"publicationDate":"2024-01-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139459289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"经济学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present empirical evidence that innovative activities in both advanced and emerging market economies are most hampered by financial and economic cost factors. To explain the differences in the innovation activity between emerging and advanced market economies, we use two variants of a Schumpeterian model of creative destruction: a variant with complete financial markets and another with incomplete financial markets and uninsurable shocks to the innovation activity and we identify the first with an advanced market economy and the second with an emerging market economy. We characterize the effects of macroeconomic, financial, and industrial factors on the innovation-to-maintenance mix in advanced versus emerging market economies. Economic recessions induce innovation in advanced market economies; however, their effect in emerging markets depends on the underlying parameters of the shock process. In both advanced and emerging market economies, uncertainty induces greater innovation. Borrowing capacity increases innovation in emerging market economies. Industrial competition decreases innovation in emerging market economies, though it is neutral in advanced market economies. In emerging market economies, it is the relative magnitudes of industrial competition and borrowing capacity that matter for innovation. The analysis suggests a different framework for public policy in which industrial competition policy and public financial policy are intertwined.
","PeriodicalId":47435,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Knowledge Economy","volume":"53 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.3,"publicationDate":"2024-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139408311","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"经济学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, in this study, the relationship between financial development and income inequality is discussed, the effect of financial development on income inequality is empirically explored, and policy recommendations are made within the framework of the analysis in 10 newly ındustrialized countries. The annual data spanning 1985–2019 were collected to examine the nexus among financial development, per capita GDP, and income inequality. Moreover, control variables of government expenditures, urban population, foreign direct investment, and economic globalization index were added to the empirical model as explanatory variables. Income inequality is measured by Gini coefficient. Panel autoregressive distributed lag model (Panel ARDL) and panel generalized moment method-system (Panel GMM) were used in the analyses. According to the results obtained in the study, while economic globalization increases income inequality, government expenditures, and urban population and foreign direct investments reduce income inequality. However, while GDP and financial development itself increased the Gini coefficient, it decreased the squares. Therefore, it is concluded that both classical Kuznets curve and financial Kuznets curve hypotheses are valid for newly ındustrialized countries. It is possible that the findings obtained in the analysis will be used by the policy makers of these countries for the development of financial systems in order to reduce inequality. As a result, stakeholders are more involved in monitoring public policies’ effectiveness in promoting agricultural sustainability. In Morocco, agriculture is a strategic sector for achieving sustainable development, but measuring its impact on population well-being, economic development, and preserving the environment remains the missing piece that policymakers need to support their decisions. This paper develops a composite indicator (CI) construction method to measure regional sustainability with an application to the agricultural sector in the Fes-Meknes region (FMR). We extended the construction procedure to build CIs in five Moroccan regions to create a comparative basis for inter-regional agricultural sustainability performance. The Fes-Meknes region index (FMRI) results from aggregating 24 indicators selected based on their measurability, data availability, and relevance, normalised with the Min–Max procedure, equally weighted and compiled into a single index with a hybrid aggregation method. Results show that the FMR is moderately sustainable with a score of (0.55) and an intra-regional discrepancy concerning the global and dimensional performance of agriculture. Early childhood mathematics includes counting and the application of counting, which includes mathematical activities such as sorting, matching, and pattern recognition. Deeper understanding of basic math concepts that include number sense, shapes and spatial awareness, measurement, patterns, and basic operations such as addition and subtraction. This study aims to investigate the relationship between children’s mathematical knowledge and skills developed in early stages and their later achievements in mathematics. Research data were collected from 53 children’s parents and 36 experts through telephonic interview questionnaire methods. The data collected was analyzed using SPSS software. The validity and reliability of the variables in the questionnaire have been tested. The results of this study reveal a significant positive correlation between children’s early mathematical knowledge and skills and later achievement in mathematics. Specifically, children who demonstrated higher levels of mathematical competencies during their early years exhibited greater success in later academic performance in mathematics. Additionally, the study identified several factors that influence this relationship, including parental involvement, socioeconomic status, and quality of early mathematics instruction. The novelty of this study is highlighting the importance of early math development; it leads to an understanding of educational practices that improve children’s math learning and promote future success in math. Based on the study findings, it is suggested that educators and policymakers emphasize the importance of early mathematical education and provide targeted interventions and support to enhance children’s mathematical knowledge and skills during their formative years.
","PeriodicalId":47435,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Knowledge Economy","volume":"33 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.3,"publicationDate":"2024-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139408490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"经济学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
