However, the veracity of such content is often questioned as social media platforms are prone to false reports, rumours and manipulation. This highlights the importance of journalists using robust verification techniques and strategies to ensure the accuracy and reliability of social media content in their reporting. However, prior research revealed no review papers discussing patterns of verification techniques and strategies journalists use on social media content for news production. This thematic review aims to synthesise literature from 2019 to 2023 on the journalist's strategies and techniques in verifying social media content for news production using a thematic review (TR). A list of keywords (journalistic techniques and strategies used in verifying social media content for news production) related to the scope of this research was identified. In the second step, the keyword was searched for studies in Scopus, Dimensions and Mendeley, and 31 papers were reviewed. A thematic review was carried out, where five final themes were identified: traditional techniques, combination strategies, technology and social media tools, computational tools and training, and media literacy. This study will benefit knowledge of journalists' verification social media techniques and strategies and future study of journalists' verification practices. Keywords: Journalists practices, verification, techniques & strategies, social media, news production.","PeriodicalId":45197,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Komunikasi-Malaysian Journal of Communication","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135038026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this regard, one’s relationship with mother nature is to fulfill their life’s purpose in creating mutual harmony and balance among nature and all beings. At present, there have been significant destruction and damage upon the ocean and marine life caused by humans, thus affecting members of the community whose livelihood depend on it. Multitudes of media platforms currently provide channels to educate the public on the importance of the ocean ecosystem for future generations. Therefore, awareness campaigns on the said ocean conservation through media and communication are imperative to influence attitude and behaviours particularly among young audiences and motivate them to engage and participate in the discourse. This study explores the strategy behind the popular children’s animated series, Upin and Ipin in the introduction of ocean elements to inculcate appreciation for the environment. Using a qualitative content analysis, the animation series was analysed thematically and guided by the Nurul Akma Osman animation publishing model. The findings established that an awareness campaign on environmental conversation is present through the theme elements and topics, plots and scripts, characters and characteristics, and backgrounds that are features of animated series. The presentation based on these elements also reflects the efforts of the animated series to create a more organic approach on greater understanding of mother nature for young children. Keywords: Environmental conservation, Upin and Ipin, well-being, animated series, awareness campaign.","PeriodicalId":45197,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Komunikasi-Malaysian Journal of Communication","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135037706","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As this outbreak has spread worldwide, including in Malaysia, several alternatives were undertaken by the government to curb this spread including introduce a vaccination program for the community. This program is believed to make most of the community worried or uncertain since it is still newly introduced. In reducing people's worries and uncertainties regarding COVID-19 vaccination, searching for information via social networking sites (SNS) will likely reduce their uncertainty. This study aims to determine the most preferred SNS used by people of middle age to reduce uncertainty regarding information on COVID-19 vaccination. This study also aimed to identify the factors that contribute to middle-aged people's preferences for SNS to reduce their uncertainty about COVID-19 vaccination, as well as the uncertainty reduction strategies (URSs) used by middle-aged people over preferred SNS to reduce their level of uncertainty about COVID-19 vaccination. Uncertainty Reduction Theory was used as the underpinning theory for this study. This study employed a qualitative approach in which an in-depth e-interview was conducted over a Google Meet platform. The results showed that Facebook is the most preferred SNS the informants use to reduce uncertainty regarding COVID-19 vaccination. This study also found information authority to be the most important factor for SNS preference. Finally, the study also discovered that the passive strategy is the most commonly employed method used by informants to reduce information uncertainties regarding COVID-19 vaccination. This article presents a systematic literature review (SLR) aiming to identify UTAUT model applications during the pandemic, explore contexts and methods used, assess global involvement, and understand factors influencing ICT adoption. Following the Reporting standards for Systematic Evidence Syntheses (ROSES) protocol, 70 articles were comprehensively analyzed out of 801 obtained from Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. The review revealed 249 researchers from 44 countries conducting empirical studies on ICT adoption with UTAUT during the pandemic. Dominant contexts were education, healthcare, and mobile technology. Notably, confirmed performance expectancy emerged as the main factor influencing ICT adoption intention, supported by 48 studies (68.57%). Additionally, facilitating conditions' effects were confirmed by 37 studies (52.86%), while effort expectancy and social influence effects were each confirmed by 35 studies (50%). The findings underscore the importance of education, healthcare, and mobile technology during crises, urging attention from governments, policymakers, technology managers, and academics. Individuals demonstrated strong motivation to utilize technology for work facilitation, regardless of resource availability, knowledge, comfort, or social influence from the newly adopted systems or technologies during the pandemic. Furthermore, countries affected by the pandemic could adopt successful systems or technologies from researchers' home countries to foster ICT adoption during future crises. It stimulated the repressive action of the Jokowi government has made Indonesian democracy to be on decline. Some scholars consider this as an atavism of an entrenching ideological conflict since hundreds of years ago between nationalism vs. Islamism. However, we argue that polarisation is more complex than what we expected before. This article examines the Islamist grassroots discourses to get an alternative perspective regarding the resurrection of conservatism in Indonesia. We collected and analysed qualitatively data of internet memes during the 2019 Indonesia Presidential campaign. We argue that antagonism occurred among the Islamist sectarian groups as a continuation of the Aksi Bela Islam (The Defending Islam Movement) in 2016. The antagonism among the groups indicates the rise of the Islamic radical-conservatism groups through the presentation of the antagonism between Islam Nusantara and Islamist puristic movement. The Islamic radical-conservatism group has successfully exploited the anti-Ahok movement with the Bela Islam (defending Islam) discourse. However, using Islamist issues during the 2019 presidential election has represented the triumph of the Politics of Islam: Islamization of Indonesian political ideology. Islam has harmonised into nationalism and secularism despite the internet memes' incoherent and irrational language. The triumph of Islamic hegemony transformed and infected Indonesia's political ideology. Islam has become an obligatory symbol in Indonesian politics. Keywords: Islam conservatism, politics of Islam, political internet memes, Indonesian Politics, humorous political communication.","PeriodicalId":45197,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Komunikasi-Malaysian Journal of Communication","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135037824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This calls for a comprehensive analysis, emphasizing the Hadith perspective, in the context of Covid-19 misinformation in Indonesia. This article qualitatively analyses the spread of false information through WhatsApp, from the Hadith perspective. This study collected and analyzed WhatsApp messages circulating in Indonesia from 2020 to 29 May 2022, using the Turnbackhoax website to identify false information related to COVID-19. There were 217 messages classified into various categories, such as understanding COVID-19, symptoms, government policies, services, spread, treatment, positive patient data, task force, deaths, economic, social, and religious impacts, vaccines, and masks. The findings show that WhatsApp is a social media platform that is widely used to spread false information. The findings were then analyzed using Hadith, which revealed WhatsApp communication ethics such as silence is better than communicating false information, selectively sharing information, and conducting investigations. This research is expected to contribute to understanding the method in clear standardization, namely the Hadith of the Prophet. Various efforts have been attempted to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality, including reproductive health literacy, screening programs for pregnant women, improved pregnancy nutrition, and increased health professional accountability. This research aimed to establish the level of interpersonal communication ability required by midwives, pregnant women, and their families. A qualitative research approach with a case study method was used. This research involved six informants from three groups: program creators, program implementers, and program recipients. This research demonstrated that each communicator must enhance communication competency, such as effective listening, maintaining secrets, opening up, and empathizing, to establish successful interpersonal communication between midwives, pregnant women, and mothers' families. Empathy is essential for effective communication between midwives, expectant mothers, and their families. The intended empathy occurs when communicators have a mutual understanding of each other's positions and do not impose their will on each other, creating the impression that the other party is ignoring them. Efforts to save mothers and neonatal are a responsibility that must be carried out by all parties; this is not only the responsibility of the government, midwives, or mothers of neonatal, but collaboration that is carried out collaboratively is required so that efforts to save mothers and neonatal can have a positive impact and bring about significant change with shared benefits.
