The presented analysis of age and sex pyramids in 2000 and 2020 demonstrates the influence of demographic waves and events associated with them. The dynamics of indicators used to assess the transformation of the sex and age structure are considered in detail. These indicators include the share of the population of working and non-working age, the average age of the population, the coefficient of demographic load, the ageing index. The intensification of the population ageing process in the Russian Federation is noted. At the end of the article, possible social and economic consequences of the transformation of the sex and age structure are considered.","PeriodicalId":448106,"journal":{"name":"Paradigms and models of demographic development. The sources for studying the demographic potential were the results of the population censuses of 1939 and 1959 in Sverdlovsk, as well as a database created on the basis of the 1959 census questionnaires preserved in the archive. The statistical analysis revealed the contradictory development of the demographic potential of Sverdlovsk in the post-war period. The contradictions arose from the different vectors of the basic demographic processes — natural and migration growth. Human potential of Sverdlovsk in the post-war period, as well as in the 1920s-1930s, mainly depended on the migration influx of the population aged 20–40, which made it possible to maintain the age structure at the stage of maturity and temporarily postponed the problems associated with ageing population.","PeriodicalId":448106,"journal":{"name":"Paradigms and models of demographic development. This issue is considered based on office documents identified in the collections of various Russian archives, as well as ≪Books of memory of victims of political repression in Eastern Transbaikalia≫. The study revealed that, at the beginning of the 20th century, most Chinese-Russian families had no children or only one child; the number of mixed families began to grow in the first half of the 1920s. The paucity of children was due to the short period of existence of most such families. In general, while Chinese-Russian families with two children predominated in Russia, there were many families with one child. After political repression, families with many children became rarer. Ultimately, most Chinese migrants before the 1940s did not start families in Russia; an additional factor that hindered the formation of an established Chinese diaspora was the weak connection of children from mixed marriages with Chinese culture.","PeriodicalId":448106,"journal":{"name":"Paradigms and models of demographic development. Sex, age and marriage structure of the population, as well as literacy rates were examined taking into account the differences between the socio-economic groups identified in the source. Analysis of the data showed that homeowners differed little from tenants in terms of the indicated socio-demographic characteristics. Simultaneously, they extremely differed from those people who did not own housing and did not rent it, but lived at the place of work or with their clients. In addition, in the course of the work, a number of errors in the source were identified and editing suggestions were proposed.","PeriodicalId":448106,"journal":{"name":"Paradigms and models of demographic development. It is concluded that some of the works do not consider the impact of the campaign on demographic changes, while the reduction in the volume of sales and consumption of alcoholic beverages, a decrease in the number of alcoholics, alcoholic psychosis, fight against bootlegging, alcoholic crimes are examined in detail. A decrease in mortality, an increase in the birth rate, an increase in the life expectancy of the population in the context of the fight against alcoholism are touched upon only in a number of studies (for example, in materials from Western Siberia, Udmurtia, Bashkiria). The problem is most studied in the Udmurt Republic, where the influence of the campaign on marriage and divorce was also considered. Additionally, in Udmurtia, the ethnic component of the influence of the anti-alcohol campaign on demographic processes was analysed. Therefore, it was concluded that the greatest reduction in mortality occurred among the Udmurts living in rural areas.","PeriodicalId":448106,"journal":{"name":"Paradigms and models of demographic development. Based on the data of a sociological study conducted in the city of Ekaterinburg in 2018, the research analyses the views of the subjects of parental labour on the remuneration for parental work, as well as their preferences regarding the forms and types of such remuneration. It was concluded that families with children prefer a permanent cash allowance, despite the fact that financial remuneration is not the main and only form of remuneration for parental labour. There is a discrepancy between the existing state support measures and the requests of the subjects of parental labour.
