The living conditions of the population and its well-being have a serious impact on the demographic situation in individual countries and regions of the world. This statement is relevant for both Russia as a whole and its constituent entities. Thus, the current demographic situation in most regions of the Russian Federation shows negative trends, and the processes of population ageing are highly pronounced. The greatest concern is caused by the Far Eastern Federal District that is characterized by the migration outflow persisting throughout the post-Soviet period, as well as by healthcare and infrastructure development issues. The research identifies the strengths and weaknesses of the development of medicine and healthcare in the Far East and assesses their impact on the demographic security of the macro-region. Empirical and theoretical research methods, along with the analysis of the results obtained by statistical processing, were used. The main conclusions are formulated, the most serious problems of the development of the transport and social infrastructure of the macro-region are described, and ways to solve the accumulated problems are proposed.","PeriodicalId":448106,"journal":{"name":"Paradigms and models of demographic development. The study supplements the estimates available in the literature based on statistical information or data from surveys conducted by the Federal State Statistics Service. The described survey was conducted in all federal districts in July 2020 using a quota sampling method. The survey results showed that maternity (family) capital remains an important incentive in the decision-making process for women regarding childbirth, and not only for low-income families. It is especially important in rural areas and small towns. Social benefits for families with children is an equally significant factor. Financial assistance from grandparents is also important, but to a somewhat lesser extent.","PeriodicalId":448106,"journal":{"name":"Paradigms and models of demographic development. In this regard, one of the main indicators of the demography of grandparenthood is the number of grandparents in society. Using the authors’ approach developed based on the methodology for forecasting the number of grandparents in the country as a whole, the present research forecasts the number of grandmothers in Sverdlovsk oblast for 2021–2025. Calculations show that, in Sverdlovsk oblast, this indicator is unlikely to change in the 5-year perspective; the share of grandmothers in the population of the region is also stable. Understanding of the perspective quantitative trends can prompt the executive bodies of Russian regions responsible for demographic policy to make decisions aimed at improving the qualitative characteristics of grandparents, namely, increasing the share of grandparents actively involved in the life of grandchildren in the number of all grandparents in the region.","PeriodicalId":448106,"journal":{"name":"Paradigms and models of demographic development. New methodological approaches are necessary in order to improve the correctness of such studies. This applies to the analysis of the relationship between the age at birth of the first child and planned number of children, the effect of living standards on reproductive behaviour, self-assessment of obstacles associated with the birth of children. Particular attention is paid to a barely explored issue of the impact of value systems on reproductive intentions in the context of combined motives for the birth of children and self-assessment of relevant obstacles. Value systems play a significant role in determining reproductive behaviour, which should be taken into account in demographic policy.","PeriodicalId":448106,"journal":{"name":"Paradigms and models of demographic development. The dynamics of the population movement and migration in the EAEU member states was clearly shown, the migration balance was calculated based on statistical data. It is concluded that, in regards to the demographic development of the EAEU, a significant increase in the population is observed in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, ensuring the maintenance of the total population, while Belarus, Armenia, and the Russian Federation show a population decline. The general analysis demonstrates a synergistic effect in the EAEU population system, indicating how some EAEU member states are replaced by others in terms of population size.","PeriodicalId":448106,"journal":{"name":"Paradigms and models of demographic development. The solution to this problem ensures the preservation of the population, a growth of life expectancy, and active development of regional economy by increasing the number of able-bodied population. The demographic situation in industrial regions of the Russian Federation, such as Chelyabinsk oblast, is characterised by negative values (a decrease in the birth rate, an increase in mortality and, as a result, a decrease in the population), it is necessary to develop and implement an effective demographic policy in the region.","PeriodicalId":448106,"journal":{"name":"Paradigms and models of demographic development. The use of official census materials, in particular, the All-Union Census of 1959, is limited due to both the census form and the selective publication of the obtained results. In part, this problem is solved by using fragmentary census forms. The article aims to clarify the possibility of using, along with the published data, the primary materials of the 1959 census to study urban family in the city of Sverdlovsk. To systematize the information of the census forms, the database “Family of the city of Sverdlovsk. 1959” was created. It combines the principles of individual and family registration. Based on the analysis of the obtained data, the Ural urban family was examined from the point of view of the second demographic transition, which significantly influenced the size of the family, the distribution of intra-family roles, and the strategies of marriage behaviour.","PeriodicalId":448106,"journal":{"name":"Paradigms and models of demographic development. The most unshakeable institution — family, which for a long time represented the age-old traditions — has also undergone transformations. The idea of universal equality widespread in Russia in that time assumed equality in all spheres of society, including in the family. Now the divorce procedure, which could be initiated by a woman, was significantly simplified, the age of marriage changed, there were no restrictions for representatives of different nationalities and religions. Indeed, the new decrees concerning the family and marriage represented the most modern, most fashionable trends of the 20th century.","PeriodicalId":448106,"journal":{"name":"Paradigms and models of demographic development. It is shown that after the rapid deterioration of both components of population reproduction in the 1990s, the demographic situation in the country has been significantly improving since 2006, including due to targeted demographic policy measures. However, in the last years, negative trends in demographic processes have formed, primarily because of a decrease in the number of births. As a result, after 10 years of positive natural growth in the Republic of Khakassia (2007–2016), the population decline resumed with a negative trend that continues to the present. The age structure, which has changed dramatically in comparison with the Soviet period, will determine further negative prospects in the demographic sphere. The research results can be used to improve demographic policy, including at the regional level.","PeriodicalId":448106,"journal":{"name":"Paradigms and models of demographic development.
