The different ethnic communities are ruled by a unique administrative authority, but the multicultural environment exercises a major influence on the personal names of each ethnic group by distinguishing the names according to several aspects: ethnic criteria, the manifestation of unilateral or reciprocal onomastic influences, the adaptation of borrowed names to the specificity of each language and the alteration of the popular names in use in written variants, established as officially Latinized forms.","PeriodicalId":441535,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Onomastics ”Name and Naming”.","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127648032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The onomastic data were collected from the records published by Virgil Şotropa in the newspaper Tribuna (1901, year XXXII, issues 1: 3 sqq.) and reprinted in the journal Arhiva Someşană (1940, issue 48: 47–63). The research does not deal with family names, as these are almost always replaced with the names of the students’ settlement or area of origin: Besenyö, Bistriciensis, Budatelek, Burgoiensis, Crajoviensis, Dobociensis, Kaczkiensis, Kajla, Nagy-Banya, Naszod, Naszodiensis, Radnensis, Somkuta, Tohatiensis, Tordensis, Transilvanus etc. The names analysed attest to the multicultural nature of anthroponymy since the early days of the existence of Confessional Records, Land Registries, Students’ Records etc.","PeriodicalId":441535,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Onomastics ”Name and Naming”.","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126253162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Place names on the most ancient maps of the city are in Italian, just like, for the most part, the street names on the maps drawn up in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, which Tito’s regime substituted with new names, cancelling any trace whatsoever of the historical Italian presence. In view of the appointment of the city as European Capital of Culture in 2020, the city council has launched an interesting cultural project envisaging the restoration of the name Fiume next to Rijeka and the recovery of 31 historical street names, by installing bilingual signs indicating the ancient names of the streets and squares in the town centre. The paper examines a selection of the names that best document the rich and diversified history of the city.","PeriodicalId":441535,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Onomastics ”Name and Naming”.","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123280807","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since 2019, there is a software database available, making the unique data of obtained inquiries accessible to the public. This paper introduces those parts of this database that are connected with proper names (not only the origin and interpretation of proper names, but also their pronunciation, spelling, declension, etc.), identifies the categories of the most frequent queries and presents examples of questions. Onomastic inquiries are specific due to the fact that to answer them, an interdisciplinary approach, knowledge of foreign languages and orientation in the entire contemporary multicultural world are necessary.","PeriodicalId":441535,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Onomastics ”Name and Naming”.","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121509924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the context of nomadism, if toponymy is a localization system with regard to moving from one place to another and common to a given group, its retranscription may differ according to the needs of such a society. This is the case with the toponymy of the Cree Amerindians and geological resources in Quebec. In this paper, the procedure for validating mineralogical indices from toponyms will take into account the fact that these names were created from the observation made by the Cree Native American nation: color, shine, texture. Our aim is to investigate the way in which these differences are noticeable in paintings and are perceived in the context of the analysis of the titles of paintings. As a part of this approach, we have to consider first and foremost the relations between the linguistic sign and the visual one. Practically, the title sequence which sets apart a visual work from all the others functions as a personal name; it is a linguistic sign which, first of all, identifies and individualises so that further on, from the point of view of the communicative process, it establishes a contact with the public who is informed about the existence of a specific visual text. Our research aims to present a typology of the titles which evoke the image of the other in the field of painting. It is limited to the Romanian cultural area, given the fact that, starting with the 19th century, this topic is well illustrated. We find it interesting to address a series of titles of paintings containing ethnonyms, as they represent characteristic images of several ethnicities found in Romania: Jews, Tartars, Roma.","PeriodicalId":441535,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Onomastics ”Name and Naming”.","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114328370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These entities condemn politicians’ behaviour, language or decisions by giving them various nicknames. The newly coined nicknames sometimes include terms from other languages, thereby enhancing the mocking character of the names. Our approach will focus on identifying the linguistic motivation of the nicknames containing terms borrowed from other languages, as well as the social and contextual factors that triggered their coinage.
