Occurrences were verified in the historical sub-section of the Russian National Corpus. Elaboration of the collected data is directed at delineating the range of meanings of the term and evaluating its possible semantic variations. For the multilingual lexicon of religious and philosophical-theological words, the results of the inquiry are so disparate as to favor a return to the individual sources over meanings derived from dictionaries.

Furthermore, we illustrate how Khlebnikov’s encounter with Janko Lavrin influenced his linguististic conceptions, which in 1913 led to the publication of a series of articles in the newspaper “Slavyanin”.\u0000Finally, we argue that some of these articles already showed a significant shift from his Neo-Slavophile ideas to a new conception, which turns towards the Eurasian continent as the arena for his utopian visions.

Moving from his Žitije, which is essentially a travelogue, the paper aims to analyse the tension between the open-minded, secular Zelić and the other Zelić, who identified himself with the Orthodox traditions of Dalmatia without knowing how to adjust them to modernity. According to the author, his rational head and his romantic heart make his global outlook deeply controversial and his mentality typical of a Homo Mediterraneus.

The framework is based on a substantially revised version of the classical descriptive methodology. The intent is to improve on the classical monographs by Vaillant, Diels, Lunt in the direction of utmost completeness, explicitness, and deliberate consistency between the grammatical structure, the corpus of texts (limited to the seven oldest OCS manuscripts), and the dictionaries. The grammar is intended as a set of rules that provide a complete characterization of any OCS wordform. Peculiarities in the language of each source are described as systematic departures from canonical OCS, a conventional constructed variety primarily described by the grammar. The book is addressed to linguists working in Slavic studies, as well as to specialists in the general theory of grammar, especially phonologists and morphologists. \u0000Data from the dictionaries are freely available as a searchable database online here.\u0000

The earliest copy dates from 1418 (National Research Library of Odessa, no. 6 [1/106]), while the second is from 1523–1543 (Moscow, Russian State Library, f. 87 N° 1 [1684]). The paper presents this tradition to scholars as new material for the study of the Antiochene or Lucianic recension of 1–4 Kingdoms, a text-type found in five Greek manuscripts. The analysis shows that it represents a new witness, not only to the Antiochene recension of 1–4 Kingdoms as a whole, but also to its proto-Lucianic textual stratum.

The main focus is on delimitative and attenuative po- in derived PF forms as well as in secondary IPF verbs. Using the Russian-Bulgarian parallel corpus, I show that there is a functional parallelism between PF and IPF delimitatives in Russian and Bulgarian. The semantic similarity between delimitative and attenuative meaning is the basis for expressing special pragmatic functions by means of both PF and IPF poattenuatives in Bulgarian, while attenuative po-verbs in Russian express specific pragmatic meanings primarily via PF forms.

Special attention is paid to Russian aspectual pairs (considered in a cross-Slavic perspective). I focus on antinomies applying to different ways of expressing the aspectual semantics of verbs (lexical, grammatical and derivational), as well as on rules regulating the use of perfective and imperfective verbs. Our study confirms the need to distinguish between lexical and grammatical limits of action in a theory of Slavic aspect.

The analysis deals both with the historical motivation for this biaspectual behaviour and the factors behind its loss. The most important stage of the process seems to be the gradual disappearance of the primary spatial usages of past’: these came to be expressed by a newly created\u0000aspectual pair, padat’/upast’. The latter is close to the so-called two-stem perfectivation verbs, which I examined in more detail in my previous work.

The article evaluates the diachronic backdrop and parameters appropriate for classificatory categories. Special attention is paid to the criteria applied by aspectologists to determine aspect pairs and to aspect triplets. The assessment ends up with a paradox resulting from Maslov’s criteria of ‘trivial pairednessʼ, which require not only identical lexical meaning, but an ontology for which telic events are the sole basis in the derivation of aspect pairs.
