The present study is novel in its interrogation of whether COVID-19 induced perceived risk has an intervening effect in the destination media profile - travel intentions nexus of tourists. The quantitative study adopted a cross-sectional approach. Data was generated via an online survey of a purposive-convenient sample. The respondent-driven snowball sampling approach resulted in a final international sample of 323 potential tourists. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, linear regressions, and simple and parallel mediation analyses were employed. As it emerged from the study, a destination's media profile, directly and indirectly, influences the conative behaviour of tourists. At the same time, destination media profile has an apparent direct effect on perceived risk-oriented information symmetry. A partial diminishing intervening effect of COVID-19 induced risk is also established in the indirect relationship between destination media profile and tourists' post-crisis travel intentions.","PeriodicalId":42370,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Hospitality and Tourism Research-AHTR","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2022-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85012984","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Seeking novelty, particularly novel cuisine, is one of the motivating factors underlying travel. Image is one of the most important factors that affect intention to visit a country and experience the cuisine. This study examines the mediating effects of Turkish cuisine image on the relationship between novelty seeking and intention to visit. In this regard, Turkish cuisine image and its effect on individuals from the United Kingdom (U.K.) who had eaten at Turkish restaurants was analyzed. Individuals at Turkish restaurants were asked to fill out self-administered questionnaires with 78 questions. An online platform of people was also utilized. It was seen that cuisine image has a significant mediating role on the intention to visit Turkey.","PeriodicalId":42370,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Hospitality and Tourism Research-AHTR","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2022-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73610121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the current fuzzy time models have not accommodated the holiday effects so that the forecasting error becomes large at certain moments. Regarding the problem, this study proposes two algorithms, extended of Chen’s and seasonal fuzzy time series method (FTS), to consider the holiday effect in forecasting the monthly tourist arrivals to ancient human Sangiran Museum. Both algorithms consider the relationship between Eid holidays as the effect of calendar variations. The forecasting results obtained from the two proposed algorithms are then compared with those obtained from the Chen’s and the seasonal FTS. Based on the experimental results, the proposed method can reduce mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE), and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) obtained from Chen’s method up to 61%, 61%, and 58%, respectively. Moreover, compared to that obtained from the seasonal FTS, the proposed method can reduce the MAE, RMSE, and MAPE values up to 35%, 36%, and 29%, respectively. The method proposed in this paper can be implemented to other time series with seasonal pattern and calendar variation effects. 1 Address correspondence to Winita SULANDARI (PhD), Study Program of Statistics, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta, Indonesia. Therefore, it is of great importance to determine the local people’s attitudes towards sustainable tourism and development. Goal of the current study is to reveal the importance and perceived performance of the local people towards sustainable tourism, in line with the sustainable tourism principles determined by the World Tourism Organization. In order to examine importance that local people give to these principles and perceived performance of their application, Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) method was applied. Data was collected from 389 locals in Demre District of Antalya city in Turkey with the survey technique. According to the findings of IPA, local people reported high levels of importance to all sustainable tourism principles. On the other hand, perceived performance of local people towards application of all the principles, except “protection of biological diversity”, shows low levels. Unique contribution of the current study is in providing the perspective on how local people evaluate sustainable tourism principles and emphasizes the awareness of important and perceived performance differences when it comes to sustainable tourism.","PeriodicalId":42370,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Hospitality and Tourism Research-AHTR","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2022-01-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80229916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kala","doi":"10.30519/ahtr.969999","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.30519/ahtr.969999","url":null,"abstract":"The study examined tourism and hospitality (T&H) students’ perception of the use of service robots in organizations. Using purposive sampling, 80 students of T&H programs were interviewed online, and data was analyzed through thematic analysis. The findings showed that a majority of respondents had shown a favorable perception of robots. While Indian students think that robots may offer several benefits for organizations, T&H entrepreneurs must make provisions to deal with the obstacles associated with robot adoption. The major challenges are employee resistance, technological glitches, services with no human touch, significant operational costs, human-robot interaction, cost of training & repair, and robot-friendly organizational design. They also believe that service organizations should balance the work of employees and robots in such a way where technologies should perform repetitive tasks while employees could deliver warm and personalized services. They prefer humanoid robots in human-touch service industries to humanize services. The study also recommends that educational institutions must incorporate courses on modern technologies into academic programs to meet future challenges and job requirements of the service sector. The findings have several implications, and further research directions are suggested.","PeriodicalId":42370,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Hospitality and Tourism Research-AHTR","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2022-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78351977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research was performed using synchronous focus group discussions (FGDs) virtually on Microsoft Teams. Participants belonged to the management of 5-star hotels in Delhi and Gurugram (cities in the National Capital Region, India). Transcripts were analyzed thematically using NVivo (Release 1.0) software. The authors have proposed seven core themes associated with female symbols of expectations looked forward to by DWBT from their hotel stay. These are guest room as the expectation of servicescape and design, hotel services as the expectation of comfort, amenities as the expectation of quality and value, hotel security as the expectation of assurance and trust, augmented specials being the expectation of personalization, selection triggers being the expectation of convenience and suitability, and customized meal requirements being the expectation of health and wellbeing. Hospitality marketers may apply strategic planning and decision-making to devise focused communication strategies to accomplish the expectations of this segment. To the best of our knowledge, this research is the first to break new ground to assess findings using synchronous FGDs for understanding the expectations of DWBT from the management perspective.","PeriodicalId":42370,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Hospitality and Tourism Research-AHTR","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2022-01-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88137174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A case study was performed at a 5star hotel in Antalya, Turkey whose room capacity is 350. Interviews, direct observations, and document collection were used to obtain data while seeking to understand how the RCA method affects analysis results by applying the case study method for a hotel. Results indicated that some customer segments, which are unprofitable by the traditional costing method, are profitable while using RCA. The cost of idle resources devoted to activities in the hotel was also put forth with the case study. Utilizing these results, the hotel management is better able to understand the profitability of different customer segments and implement appropriate strategies. There are limited studies in the literature on profitability analysis in hotel companies and, to the best of author’s knowledge, no other research has used the case study method to analyze customer profitability with the RCA method in this field. Therefore, this paper contributes to the literature by analyzing the use of the RCA method for CPA in the real-life case of an actual hotel.","PeriodicalId":42370,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Hospitality and Tourism Research-AHTR","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2021-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78753451","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
