In this framework, the field representation over a sphere [2] is a particularly interesting case, since it is relevant in the near field - far field (NF-FF) transformation with spherical scanning [3,4] and in the pattern recovery from measured or heavily computed data. When dealing with NF-FF transformations, a continuous movement of the robotic positioning systems makes the measurement set-up simpler and allows the reduction of the time required for the data acquisition. Wight","doi":"10.1109/ANTEM.2000.7851646","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ANTEM.2000.7851646","url":null,"abstract":"This paper documents the results of a study based on measurements of 240 microwave monolithic spiral inductors fabricated using an industry standard silicon process. Measurements at frequencies between 1GHz and 40GHz are presented which demonstrate inductance values of 0.4nH are achievable at 15GHz with quality factors of 20. To the authors' knowledge this is one of the highest reported Qs of a monolithic inductor created in a standard RF silicon process. Four square and four octagonal inductors were design with target inductances of 0.4nH, 0.5nH, 1.0nH, and 1.5nH. Each inductor was fabricated three ways: in top metal only, in top and second from top metal layers with the layers joined by vias along the length of the inductor, and in top metal with a 1µm wide trench in the silicon substrate between the inductor windings. Ten of each inductor version were measured to increase the statistical significance of the results. Three de-embedding techniques for removing pad and feed line parasitics from the inductor measurements are discussed. The probe-fed semi-disc MPA with a single shorting-pin is significantly smaller in size than that of the conventional MPAs and is thus suitable for applications in some compact systems. This semi-disc structure may be more useful compared to the circular one due to its diameter radiating edge. There is better than 16% improvement in bandwidth of the double connected gate over the single connected gate. The reduced R<inf>g</inf> due to the double connection on the gate should contribute to a lower noise transistor. The distinguishing feature of this approach is using transfer matrix method both in the axial and radial direction. The radial TE and TM modes of a multilayer parallel-plate waveguide can be obtained by applying the transfer matrix method in the axial direction and the characteristic equation of the cavity resonator is obtained by applying the transfer matrix method in the radial direction.
