L’intérêt accru pour ce champ de recherche réside en partie dans le fait que la mutation des universités consécutive à la massification et à l’hétérogénéité du public étudiant est en cours depuis des décennies aussi bien dans les pays du Nord que dans ceux du Sud. Cette mutation s’opère sous l’effet du développement économique mondialisé qui nécessite pour sa dynamique l’actualisation, l’adaptation et le développement de compétences nouvelles. En retour, cette évolution n’est pas sans effet, aussi bien sur la transformation du statut de l’étudiant que sur ses motivations. Les étudiants fréquentent les universités soit « dans une perspective directement professionnalisante », soit pour « échapper au chômage », soit pour « faire comme tout le monde » (Béchard et Bédard, 2009). Nous basons cet article sur les résultats d’un questionnaire dont nous avons extrait 2 193 réponses des acteurs de la formation et de l’enseignement supérieur. Son objectif a été de jauger quelques facettes de cette expérience inédite à partir du ressenti des répondants en décrivant aussi l’usage qu’ils ont fait des réseaux sociaux numériques (RSN). Leur usage amplifié et les difficultés rencontrées avec la formation mise à distance de façon contrainte ont dégradé leur ressenti psychosocial, surtout chez les étudiants. Abstract The March 2020 lockdown has redistributed the pedagogical configurations of the education system, from preschool to higher education. This article discusses the results of a survey, from which we extracted 2,193 responses from actors in training and higher education. Its objective was to gauge some facets of this unprecedented experience, in terms of the respondents’ feelings, by describing the use they made of digital social networks (DSNs). Un questionnaire en ligne, basé sur le modèle d’acceptation et d’utilisation des technologies (UTAUT) a été administré à 93 étudiants des universités et des grandes écoles du Niger ayant utilisé les réseaux sociaux numériques (RSN) pour apprendre. La méthode des moindres carrés partiels (PLS) a été utilisée pour prédire les facteurs influençant l’adoption des réseaux sociaux numériques en FAD. Les résultats Abstract The present study reports on factors determining the adoption of social networks in distance education (DE) in a health context. An online questionnaire, based on the acceptance and use of technology model (UTAUT) was administered to 93 students from Niger universities and colleges who used social networks to ensure educational continuity. The Partial Least-Squares (PLS) method was used to predict the factors influencing the adoption of social networks in DE. Analysis of the data reveals that participants were less motivated, less engaged and had more problems meeting their psychological needs in online courses than in traditional face-to-face classes. We interviewed student tutors at the University of Strasbourg about the support measures they put in place and the difficulties experienced by their mentees.
