The typological description of the sources, embedded in the text linguistics, draws attention to their specificity (structure, pragmatics, and cognitive aspect) and role in promoting the knowledge of English in the then popular self-education process. Discursively profiled in-depth analyses are used to reconstruct the ways of perceiving a native English-language user based on the content presented in the source material. They showed that the OTHER is a bearer of desirable features, both socially (respect for etiquette, respect for tradition, precision in expressing yourself) and psychologically (self-control, perseverance, well-understood cleverness), and is a representative of a powerful cultural heritage. The image created in this way motivated people to learn English and strengthened the growing prestige of this language in Poland.","PeriodicalId":41095,"journal":{"name":"Roczniki Humanistyczne","volume":"10 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139147831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
{"title":"Sonnet in Stitches: – Patchwork Variations of Modern Religious Sonnets in English","authors":"S. Wącior","doi":"10.18290/rh237111.8","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18290/rh237111.8","url":null,"abstract":"Across time and geography, the sonnet has served as a vehicle for poets to explore a diverse range of subjects, from personal love and loss, to political and social issues, and to meditate on the human condition itself. This paper will explore the patchwork variations of some modern religious sonnets in English, examining how contemporary poets are using the sonnet form to explore faith, doubt, and spirituality in new and innovative ways. Through an analysis of several representative works, we will demonstrate how these poets are breathing new life into this versatile form, creating works that are both timeless and timely. While many contemporary sonnets depart from the traditional structure of rhyme and meter, they still adhere to a set of self-imposed rules and limitations. This allows poets to experiment with new forms of expression and to explore religious themes in a more relatable and accessible way. Humour, colloquialism, and self-irony are all common features of contemporary religious sonnets, which often depict the sacred in the context of everyday life. Contemporary sonnets attempt to convey the ineffable mystery of religious experience through language, but they are more self-aware of their own structure and the ways in which they depart from tradition. This systematic deconstruction is a significant element of the contemporary sonnet, reflecting the fragmented and chaotic nature of modern existence.","PeriodicalId":41095,"journal":{"name":"Roczniki Humanistyczne","volume":" 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139142858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mimo że dostęp do różnego rodzaju koncertów jest niemal nieograniczony, a oferta bardzo atrakcyjna, regularnie zmniejsza się liczba słuchaczy muzyki klasycznej, zwłaszcza w krajach Europy zachodniej, ale także w Polsce, a średnia wieku słuchaczy znacząco wzrasta. Rozmijanie się oferty z liczbą słuchaczy może doprowadzić w dwóch następnych dziesięcioleciach do drastycznych zmian w preferencjach muzycznych polskiego społeczeństwa. W artykule są przedstawiane dane z XXI wieku dotyczące słuchalności koncertów muzyki klasycznej (i podobnych form muzycznych) w Polsce i porównawczo w Niemczech – statystyki dotyczące liczby koncertów, liczby słuchaczy oraz przyszłości rynku koncertowego. Ważnem aspektem omawianym w artykule jest analiza bezpośredniego związku obecności muzyki klasycznej w życiu człowieka i jej percepcji z wczesną socjalizacją muzyczną.","PeriodicalId":41095,"journal":{"name":"Roczniki Humanistyczne","volume":" 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139144350","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present article focuses on the analysis of four veteran Polish late-career language teachers of English, French, German and Russian who share their language-teacher lives in in-depth narrative inquiry interviews with the author of this text. The article aims to find out how various language-related critical incidents, or turning points, that took place in these teachers’ lives have affected their succeeding professional lives, and their individual perception of the language-teacher identity learning environments available to them. From the analysis of the data, four teacher identity constructions have been distinguished: “the constructive problem solver”, “the comfort minder”, “the perceiver of language-related social injustice” and “the language learner”, and it transpires that the teachers’ previous experiences are likely to affect how and why other things happen. This finding may have vital pedagogical implications for language-teacher educators, as the construction of teacher identities that are related to the participants’ meaningful and unique past experiences may question the sense of developing one universal language-teacher identity.","PeriodicalId":41095,"journal":{"name":"Roczniki Humanistyczne","volume":" 32","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139143753","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nazwa ta, sprawiająca na pierwszy rzut oka wrażenie zwyczajnej i niezbyt oryginalnej, w rzeczywistości zaskakuje bogactwem wariantów oraz pewnym potencjałem onimotwórczym. Choć zastosowany schemat nazewniczy, dość rzadko wykorzystywany w rocku, jawił się jako uniemożliwiający zmianę składu zespołu, okazał się punktem wyjścia do wykazywania się znakomitą inwencją w podejmowaniu kolejnych decyzji nazewniczych przez muzyków grupy i ich współpracowników. W artykule zwrócono też uwagę na inne kwestie dotyczące onomastyki muzycznej, m.in. zakres badań oraz adekwatność terminu proponowanego dla tej subdyscypliny, delimitację artifonimów i tytułów albumów fonograficznych, relacje transonimiczne między nazwami własnymi należącymi do tych kategorii i tendencję do tworzenia swoistych konstelacji nazewniczych (obejmujących także inne kategorie onimów muzycznych), a także zróżnicowane sposoby funkcjonowania tych onimów w języku. Dopiero odwołanie się do szeroko zakrojonych badań w zakresie etiologii onimów muzycznych powinno stanowić punkt wyjścia do ich adekwatnego i systematycznego opisu słownikowego.","PeriodicalId":41095,"journal":{"name":"Roczniki Humanistyczne","volume":"162 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139145777","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
