The instrument used was a questionnaire comprising biodata items and five adapted scales. The statistical analysis revealed that the third age students’ WTC was higher in meaning-focused tasks than in form-focused, which indicates that the older adults paid due attention to dyadic activities based on authentic communication. The strongest and most positive correlation was found between CE and TI, suggesting that the teacher played a crucial role in creating a supportive classroom environment. Moreover, the data showed a moderate correlation between WTC and FLE, WTC and CE, as well as WTC and TI. Its purpose is to show the blurred boundaries of each of the above categories, so that it is impossible to define one without referring to the other. In the first part of the work, we rely on the definitions developed by Schugurensky in the field of civic education, transferring them to the field of the teaching of foreign languages, and on Sockett’s studies on informal language learning in higher education, illustrating them with examples from the Polish educational context. In the second part, we reveal the difficulties related to the classification of specific situations of foreign language learning into particular categories on the basis of our own research conducted among students of French philology at the University of Wrocław. Unfortunately, formal education does not prepare foreign language teachers for work in vocational training institutions. This article addresses the problem of the needs of foreign language teachers working in vocational education in the Lublin region. A questionnaire survey is the basis for the diagnosis of the needs of these teachers. The latter are discussed in relation to the teaching of VOFL in terms of the forms and content of teachers’ in-service training and their readiness for self-improvement within the framework of informal education. Są więc konstruktami kulturowymi. Celem artykułu jest rekonstrukcja historii tych pojęć i stojących za nimi wyobrażeń oraz interakcji między nimi, zwłaszcza w postaci synkretycznej „muzyki pogranicznej”. W XX wieku – mimo rewolty awangardy, ostro separującej to, co popularne i użytkowe, od tego, co przynależy do sztuki wysokiej – wiele nurtów muzycznej moderny korzystało z popularnej i użytkowej estetyki, poszukując w niej odświeżającej inspiracji i realnego zaangażowania w palące problemy społeczne i polityczne. Współcześnie estetyka (i technologia) muzycznego pogranicza odgrywa coraz ważniejszą rolę w twórczości kompozytorskiej. Do jej atutów należą inkluzywność i intermedialność, pozwalające m.in. na przekraczanie granic gatunkowych i stylistycznych. This text presents an analysis and interpretation of one of the band’s most interesting songs, “On Reflection,” from the group’s seventh album, Free Hand (1975). After an analysis of the material, structures and significant figures that make up its form, it is examined in the context of references to tradition, as well as of features characteristic of the progressive rock style. This analytical process leads to interesting intertextual conclusions. As a female writer in mid-century America, Jackson uses elements of mysticism and fantasy genre as a means of interrogating the social order and gender politics of her times, but also to undermine the official patriarchal discourse and open new spaces of female experience. By blurring the boundaries between external and internal worlds, and by employing elements of the occult, the author shows reality and reason as arbitrary constructs and draws attention to other ways of meaning making. The respective curriculum is presented, and its structure and components analysed. The authors review the aims of the subject-specific didactics courses, their content and the forms of the classes, as well as the role and place of teaching internships in the process of teaching training. Most of the attention is paid to the adaptation of the existing curricula to the needs of informal Russian teacher training within the campaign “Noored Kooli” (Young People to Schools), open learning and microgrades. Also, the handbook How to Prepare and Give a Lesson in Russian as a Foreign Language is looked at, as well as at some e-platforms and resources for videoconferences and lectures. This article reveals the potential of the resources referred to in classwork and in independent work by students within both formal and informal Russian teacher training. K. Jemisin’s speculative short fiction often portrays cities as living entities which are in constant tension with the humans who occupy the same space. In particular, “The City Born Great” and “Saints, Sinners, Dragons, and Haints, in the City Beneath the Still Waters” highlight recurring themes of waste as integral to that interaction. By metaphorically applying the principles of detritus as being critical to system stability, waste becomes essential to a cycle in constant flux between humans and the cityscape. During this process, “[cities] make a weight on the world, a tear in the fabric of reality” (“The City” 20). First, the definitions of the mediation process and that of the mediator in relation to different research areas are analysed. Then, the role of mediation in the process of foreign language education is considered, with particular reference to the statements contained in the supplementary volume to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, whose authors operationalise the concept of mediation in the context of foreign language learning and teaching. The paper then analyses the mediation tasks included in a certification exam designed for adults, namely the Greek Kratiko Pistopiitiko Glosomathias exam.
