Efimov and the oldest English expert of Russian literary studies G. Smith is presented. The authors based their research on the Russian and European tradition of biographical studies and used the methods of literary history and sociocultural theory. The book is the first full-scale reconstruction of prince D.P. Svyatopolk-Mirsky’s biography in Russia. The authors widely used archival materials, testimonies and memoirs of contemporaries, hardly accessible English and émigré periodicals, which enable them to present the main events of Mirsky’s life and work. The biographers’ interest to the inner world and psychology of the hero’s acts is combined with a subtle philological analysis of his literary studies and critical essays. At the same time, the obvious sympathy for the hero did not prevent the authors from maintaining a research objectivity, which ensured the credibility and persuasiveness of their conclusions. According to the reviewers, the book is an event in national literary studies, political and cultural history of Russia and Russian emigration.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"7 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81958650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The task of the article is to show the Hovh. Tumanyan’s role in the activities of the Armenian Relief Committee. Armenian historiographic science distinguishes three periods of the Committee’s activity: 1921–1923, 1923–1931, 1931–1937). However, Tumanyan’s role in the implementation of program tasks and in the formation of the Committee in the first period of its activity has not been studied either in historiography or in literary criticism. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the study of the Hovh. Tumanyan’s activities as chairman of the Armenian Relief Committee. The presentation of historical events in the article, accompanied by scientific comments, argues the importance of studying this “white page” of Armenian reality, its topicality and its relevance to today. The article discusses Tumanyan’s efforts to establish relationships between the newly created Soviet Armenia and foreign Armenian diasporas, to form a positive attitude towards the new social formation that won in Russia. The historical and narrative aspect in the article is presented in the context of the human character and psychological portrait of Hovh. Tumanyan.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84183806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, we are talking about the chronicle “In the early beginnings of Brasilia” (1970) by Clarice Lispector, which reflects the first impressions of the Brazilian writer from the newly built capital. The texts of St. Petersburg and Brasilia seem to us to be similar semiotic structures. One can note the presence of the binary opposition city-nature, the mythologization of the foundation of the city and its creators, the motive of its artificiality and ideal visibility. However, there are significant differences between the texts of both capitals. In the case of the Brazilian capital, this is a relatively recent text, so there are significantly fewer works in which this city is mentioned. The geographical position is also a significant difference: for example, St. Petersburg is a border city, while Brasilia is located in the center of the country. That is why, while eschatological motifs predominate in the Petersburg text, Brasilia’s text clearly expresses the connection between earth and sky, which is characteristic of concentric cities.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"14 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84116414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Safiulina","doi":"10.20339/phs.3-23.057","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.20339/phs.3-23.057","url":null,"abstract":"The article for the first time makes a comparative analysis of the concepts of the Cosmos and the Earth of the ancient Greek philosopher Plato and the founder of astronautics K.E. Tsiolkovsky. A hypothesis is put forward that the philosophical basis for writing the fantastic story “Out of the Earth” by Tsiolkovsky is the interpretation of the Cosmos and the Earth from Plato’s dialogues “Phaedo”, “Timaeus”, “Critias”. The novelty of the study is seen in the fact that for the first time the deep penetration of Plato’s philosophy into the structure of Tsiolkovsky’s story “Out of the Earth” is revealed. The relevance of the study is due to the lack of coverage of this scientific problem. The definitions Cosmos, Earth are given in the understanding of Plato and Tsiolkovsky. The results of a comparative analysis of the concepts of Cosmos and Earth, the interpretation of the terms kalos cosmos, epimeleia heautou (take care of yourself) in Plato’s dialogues and in Tsiolkovsky’s story “Out of the Earth” are presented. It is suggested that the concept of the ideal Cosmos and the probability of the death of the Earth in the Platonic sense are implied in the text of the story “Out of the Earth” to solve scientific and creative problems of the early twentieth century — space flights and the creation of space settlements. The influence of Plato’s dialogues “Phaedo”, “Timaeus”, “Critias” on the style of Tsiolkovsky’s story is revealed. The questions of the originality of the genre of Tsiolkovsky’s story, its artistic features, the role of dialogues, ekphrasis are considered. It is proved that the concept of dual worlds of the ancient Greek philosopher is invariably traced in the storylines, landscape sketches, in the dialogues of the heroes of the story “Out of the Earth”. This idea of Plato will become the main one in the philosophy of Tsiolkovsky. Resettlement in space, in his opinion, means for mankind familiarization with the Cosmos — a perfect beautiful creation. Life in space settlements will save people from suffering, disease, war and give them immortality. An analysis of the concepts of Cosmos and Earth by Plato and Tsiolkovsky allows us to conclude that the idealistic views of Plato acquired a technogenic, purely materialistic, realistic embodiment in the work of Tsiolkovsky and became an incentive for technological progress, opening up new ways for the development of mankind.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"27 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83849916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is argued that French insertions are translated into English in a direct way, with Russian in this case giving up its place of a source language to French. The author supports his attitude by empirical finds such as correlations between tenses of French and English insertions as well as parallel French/English syntactic structures and correspondences between metaphoric devices in French and English sentences. It is admitted that translation should be approached as a co-authored creativity of a translator and the source narrative author.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87016721","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The comparison of adjectives is usually discussed at length, both in terms of form (inflected vs. periphrastic forms) and in terms of meaning and use (various correlative constructions and clauses of comparison). The comparison of adverbs, on the other hand, is usually mentioned only in passing, as if it were not too important. Unfortunately, the grammar books used by students are not very helpful in this respect, either: they explain the comparison of adjectives thoroughly and comprehensively, but the comparison of adverbs is rather glossed over as a minor part of the same general phenomenon. As a result, students have some problems when they are asked to translate structures involving Polish adverbs in the superlative degree into English. This paper presents the author’s search for the rules which govern the comparison of adverbs, and especially the use of the definite article the before superlative adverbs.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"43 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77137142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Gorky IMLI RAS, and the Russian State Archive of Contemporary History, the little-studied part of A.M. Gorky’s work on the preparation of the 100th anniversary of the death of A.S. Pushkin is investigated. The All-Union Pushkin Committee, created by the initiative of Gorky in 1934, played the important role in this event. Gorky’s activities as the head of the Pushkin Committee covered four areas: the publication of books, the installation of monuments to the poet, the restoration of estates and apartments associated with Pushkin’s stay, and finally, the organization of the Pushkin exhibition. Particular attention is paid to the publishing activities of the Pushkin Committee. With the direct participation of Gorky, three collected works of Pushkin were prepared (at the Academia publishing house and at the Pushkin House). The interference of party officials in the work of the Pushkin Committee, as well as excessive bureaucratization in decision-making, led to the contradictory and spasmodic nature of its work: decisions were revised, the membership of the Committee changed, periods of inactivity were replaced by periods of vigorous activity. The problems of bureaucratic delays and tough administration in the decisions of the country’s leadership regarding the Pushkin Memorial Days are illuminated.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"136 3 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83994334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
