Several petitions for the publication of a private newspaper in Novgorod in the second half of the 19th century were rejected by the Main Directorate for Press Affairs. Yakov Eliashevich, a teacher at the Novgorod gymnasium, was the only one of the petitioners who received the right to publish this popular type of newspaper. The article analyzes the activity of this edition as a way of expressing an actual regional identity, which was especially important for a territory with a vivid medieval history, but with an ordinary provincial way of life in modern times. The identified personalities of the authors of the publications of the “Novgorod Leaflet” show that it involved representatives of the Novgorod intelligentsia not only from the provincial center, but also from the districts of the province. The topics of the newspaper reflected the professional interests of its employees, and the rubrication was characteristic of a universal newspaper. The authors study the documents from the funds of the Russian State Historical Archive, disclosing the conditions of the appearance and functioning of the first private newspaper of Novgorod, the peculiarities connected with its censorship, and the reasons for its closure. The history of this newspaper is an example of the opposition of the local intelligentsia and the government. The former needed the newspaper as a means of forming a modern Novgorod identity and discussing topical issues and problems, while the latter were interested in preserving the most positive image of the province in the eyes of the capital.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90728904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chukovsky, which is characterized by the collaboration of the young critic in provincial and metropolitan periodicals. From spring to autumn 1905, Chukovsky was simultaneously published in the “Odessa News” and the St. Petersburg weekly “Theatrical Russia”. Publications in both editions were revealed: in the capital’s journal they are twice as large as those in Odessa, they include texts signed with pseudonyms and not considered in Chukovsky’s bibliography. Most of the work is related to the profile of the magazine: these are reviews and notes on theatrical topics. The smaller one is a literary-critical articles, three of them Chukovsky published with changes in parallel in St. Petersburg and Odessa. Special attention is paid to these materials, which makes it possible to reveal Chukovsky’s authorial intentions, determined by his notions about the provincial and metropolitan readership. The article analyzes the mechanism of the work of a young author on a radical revision of articles about M. Gorky, L. Andreev and Evg. Solovyov, which appeared in a provincial newspaper and a Moscow magazine at almost the same time. An optional but important aspect of the study is the question of the degree of success in representing of these Chukovsky’s articles in the latest collected works in 15 volumes.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"23 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78150873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kruchenykh, I. Terentyev, I. Zdanevich). Unlike the public actions of “classic” avant-garde (futuristic) communities, “41º” relied less on scandal as a means to attract the attention of the “newshawk”, a relay of a public action for a broader audience. Regional journalists, literary critics sympathized with the futurists and included them into their creative community. Their attention did not have to be attracted on purpose. Scandal has been replaced by cooperation. Therefore, the communicative strategy that has developed in the “41º” community is predicated on a dialogue, it implies the activity of the reader. It as a consequence, the reader parodies the poet-orator. The reader deliberately alters and then creatively twists the poet’s statement, appropriating the device and becoming the author himself, a subject expressing feelings. This strategy becomes topical in A. Kruchenykh and I. Terentyev poetic theory as part of the “readerly” program. A quest “mistakes” (textual zones subject to a parodic recoding) in someone else’s text is foregrounded. A “mistake” (“shift”) makes it possible to reimagine the text as a semiotic object and reassign its reference to a readerly intention not coinciding with the authorial one, so that the reader as a co-performer becomes a co-author. The purpose of text misreading (“hacking”) is to shift the focus from the “I” of the writing subject and from the printed statement to the context as a source of creativity and to the performer’s gesture as the referent of the statement.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87041025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nonetheless, papers like Tavrichesky Golos (Simferopol) and Delo (Odesa), the Kamena magazine (Kharkiv), as well as a literary and political volume called Nakanune (Yekaterinodar, modern-day Krasnodar) published some of Voloshin’s poems and articles. These publications are, without a doubt, highly significant for the history of literature and journalism as Moscow and Saint Petersburg media published Voloshin’s works less often; nowadays, his publications in periodicals of Southern Russia are considered to be important textual sources. Voloshin’s attitude towards the events of the Russian Civil War in his lectures matches the understanding of those events in his poems of that period. The article called Poetry and Revolution. Alexander Blok and Ilya Erenburg, as well as Voloshin’s personal letters provide a key to his understanding of poetry and the relations between poetry, politics, and journalism. Therefore, it is fair to say that Voloshin had his own unique system of art comprehension. Analysis of its evolution, as well as studying Voloshin’s publications in the context of Southern Russia’s periodicals are yet the challenge of the future.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"38 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77129941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From the end of January to March 1914, about 40 materials of various genres were published (notes, reports, articles, essay, feuilleton, report on the meeting of the State Duma, caricature, polemical reprints from other periodicals). It has been found that the genre boundaries of these materials are largely blurred. Thus, many information messages contain categorical value judgments. Particular attention is paid to the analytical speeches by V. Rozanov, N. Kuzmin, M. Ivanov, V. Zhuk, M. Menshikov, as well as the anonymous article “Shevchenko’s Anniversary and the Jesuits”. It can be argued that the round date was the reason for the intensification of the political struggle. Interethnic conflicts came to the fore, and actual literary problems did not receive proper coverage. Some inconsistency has been discovered. On the one hand, the Ukrainian poet was placed on a par with the leading Russian authors, on the other hand, his importance was emphasized precisely as an ideological leader, and not as an artist. Despite the fact that the newspaper’s position is generally predictable, it was possible to reveal unexpected overtones.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"71 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75051639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Theatrical and literary reviews, feuilletons, the chronicle and announcements are of great value in addition to narratives, translations and poems. Newspapers content analysis allowed to clarify which of the journalists of the beginning of the 20th century (in that case when they used their full surname for signature) were in collaboration with periodicals and identify the circle of their constructive interests. It also allowed to determine relations between local newspaper’s editorial boards etc. On the example of the newspaper “Saratov Bulletin” it was possible to establish modification of contains of the edition after editor A.J. Lopuchovkiy’s appearing. Newspapers material also afforded to discover the most popular Russian (L.N. Andreev, L.N. Tolstoy, A.P. Chekhov) and foreign (F. Wedekind, K. Hamsun, S. The issue of censorial persecutions and absence of a genuine unfettered press had raised in newspapers very frequently, the dangers of the Provisional Rules on temporary publications and Article 129 of the Criminal Regulations.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"40 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79073600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Gorodetsky’s essays published in the Moscow newspaper “Russian Word” and the Tiflis newspaper “Caucasian Word” during the poet’s stay on the Caucasian Front in 1916–1917. It is noted that this group of texts contains information about Gorodetsky’s travels, colleagues, humanitarian activities in Western Armenia and can be used as a source of information about his biography during this period. It is shown the relative chronology of the events described in the essays and their connection with the poet’s three visits to the city of Van. The hypothesis is put forward that, despite publication in various periodicals (central and regional newspapers), Gorodetsky’s essays have a number of integral features and represent a structural and semantic unity. It is shown that the texts under study have a cross-cutting plot related to the poet’s travels and his work in the Union of Cities, common events and characters. It is revealed that Gorodetsky’s essays, as well as travel notes, are the pretexts of his artistic works, in particular, the book of poems “The Angel of Armenia” and the unfinished novel “The Gardens of Semiramis”. It is concluded that Gorodetsky interpreted this group of newspaper publications as a metatext, similar to an artistic cycle.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"37 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77003515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The emerged newspapers and magazines, being often publications of local departments of various parties, reflected as a rule their political aspirations. The proclamation of Finland’s independence in December 1917 intensified the nationalist movement in the country and sharp increase of Russophobia, which were reflected in the pages of the Russian-language press. In the article is considered the newspaper “Voice of the Russian Colony” (1918), which was published in Helsingfors by university professor, writer Konstantin Arabazhin. The problems and structure of the newspaper as a whole, as well as the themes and genre originality of a number of journalistic texts in particular, are characterized. The editorial office of the newspaper positioned itself as an organ of independent non-partisan thought; directed its efforts to unite all layers of the Russian population of Helsingfors on the basis of national cultural values; expressed confidence that she would be able to correctly reflect the interests of her compatriots in Finland and thus become the voice of the Russian colony in the broadest sense of the word. The article describes in detail the materials of the first issue of the newspaper “Voice of the Russian Colony”. As follows from the analysis, the constituent components of the newspaper are thematically interconnected, and their arrangement in a certain sequence makes it possible to read the issue as a single text, aimed to convince the Russian-speaking reader of the significance and usefulness of the new periodical.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"81 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77124335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ivan Bunin’s debut as a prose writer took place in 1887 in the illustrated magazine “Rodina”, where the first poems and stories of the young writer appeared. Not all the stories sent to the editorial offices of magazines were accepted for publication, some of them Bunin had to offer several times to different magazines, sometimes they appeared for the first time only in collections of works made by Bunin himself. The paper also presents statistics of texts of early stories by Bunin, some of which were published only once in newspapers or magazines, while others were published two or three times, but also only in periodicals. However, most of the stories were included by Bunin in his collections and collected works. It is noted that from the period in question no autographs of published stories exist, while autographs of those works that the novice writer did not publish have been preserved. The paper examines critical responses to the novice writer’s publications of his early stories in the periodicals. It is noted that Bunin’s early stories were mostly published in popular magazines or in periodicals for children, but during these years the stories of the young writer have already begun to appear in the metropolitan “thick” magazines.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"14 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86375129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tolstoy’s name is present in the major provincial newspaper “Southern Edge” in 1904–1905. These are indicative of the writer’s role in the Russian collective consciousness of that period. L. Tolstoy is perceived as a norm-breaker whose statements and actions invariably attract everyone’s attention. A famous writer, he ceased publishing his works, while news about his literary conceptions was reported by visitors and eyewitnesses. A count and member of an esteemed noble family, he cared about the Russian people, mused on its needs and ploughed his land himself. Having survived the edict about his departure from the church, he called for religious self-improvement and opposed the overthrow of the government. During the Russo-Japanese War, as the press was full of patriotic publications, he spoke out as a pacifist. In 1904–1905 “Southern Edge” captured the process of L. Tolstoy’s transformation into a pop culture character, which came to an end in our age. It was reflected in newspapers, with depictions of L. Tolstoy appearing as a man with no trousers (in N. Bunin’s painting “Fishing”, 1903), in hell (in a church fresco described in “Southern Edge”), as a gymnast, friend of the Bashkirs, consciousness of the nation, a patriot and so forth. These images were compiled in the book “Gr. Leo Tolstoy, the great writer of the Russian land: in portraits, engravings, paintings, sculptures, caricatures, etc.” (1903) and grew ever more numerous and diverse in the 20th century.","PeriodicalId":40803,"journal":{"name":"Filologicheskie Nauki-Nauchnye Doklady Vysshei Shkoly-Philological Sciences-Scientific Essays of Higher Education","volume":"27 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86947654","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
