However, the public is seldom aware of health information avoidance behavior. As for chronic patients, the fact that they receive health information more frequently than healthy people, the act of receiving or avoiding information would more directly influence the medical decision and health maintenance. This study refers to type 2 diabetics as a target and uses the “critical incident interview technique” to collect data. There are ten patients interviewed. This study aims to explore the health information avoidance behavior and factors from the patients’ perspectives, and to investigate the strategies of decreasing health information avoidance, and to develop a framework of health information avoidance behavior. Finally, this study proposes practical suggestions for medical and health organizations regarding diabetes and is expected to remind the public to examine their own health information behavior.Keywords: Information Avoidance; Health Information Avoidance; Health Information Behavior; Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus \u0000【摘要】隨著健康資訊取得便利,大眾健康自主權提升,健康資訊尋求被視為一個普遍的現象,但健康資訊迴避卻甚少被大眾所察覺,慢性疾病患者因接觸健康資訊頻率較高,對資訊的接受或迴避更易影響患者的醫療決策和健康維持。本研究以第二型糖尿病患者為研究對象,透過關鍵事件訪談法蒐集資料,共訪談10位患者,藉由健康資訊迴避事件探究患者的健康資訊迴避行為、原因,以及減少迴避行為之契機,並整理出一個健康資訊迴避行為框架。最後提出實務建議供醫療照護單位參考,期能減少患者因迴避健康資訊而延誤治療的情況發生,進一步提醒大眾檢視自身的健康資訊行為。關鍵字:資訊迴避、健康資訊迴避、健康資訊行為、第二型糖尿病","PeriodicalId":40348,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Library and Information Studies","volume":"17 1","pages":"71-102"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2019-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49044539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We first employed qualitative citation analysis to identify the genres faculty used based on citations in their teaching materials (e.g., syllabi and lecture slides). Semi-structured interviews were then implemented to explore how they assessed and used different genres. A total number of 27 faculty from different disciplines contributed 28 courses. Qualitative content analysis was employed to analyze interview transcripts. The results indicate the criteria faculty employed served as function enablers that bridged genres and tasks. The tasks they performed served as the inclusion and exclusion criteria that determined what genres were used or not. Tasks determined the information characteristics of genres that mattered in faculty’s task performance.Keywords: Document Genres; Genre Repertoires; Task Analysis; Information Use; Document Assessments","PeriodicalId":40348,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Library and Information Studies","volume":"16 1","pages":"25-61"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41525343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research study involves 20 ADS long term users who participated in a usability and eye tracking research session. Participants first completed a cognitive test, and then performed five tasks in ADS 2.0 where they explored its multiple visualization tools. Results show that over half of the participants were Imagers and half of the participants were Analytic. Cognitive styles were found to have significant impacts on several efficiency-based measures. Analytic-oriented participants were observed to spent shorter time on web pages and apps, made fewer web page changes than less-Analytic-driving participants in performing common tasks, whereas AI (Analytic-Imagery) participants also completed their five tasks faster than non-AI participants. Meanwhile, self-identified Imagery participants were found to be more efficient in their task completion through multiple measures including total time on task, number of mouse clicks, and number of query revisions made. Imagery scores were negatively associated with frequency of confusion and the observed counts of being surprised. Compared to those who did not claimed to be a visual person, self-identified Imagery participants were observed to have significantly less frequency in frustration and hesitation during their task performance. Both demographic variables and past user experiences were found to correlate with task performance; query revision also correlated with multiple time-based measurements. Considered as an indicator of efficiency, query revisions were found to correlate negatively with the rate of complete with ease, and positively with several time-based efficiency measures, rate of complete with some difficulty, and the frequency of frustration. These results provide rich insights into the cognitive styles of ADS’ core users, the impact of such styles and demographic attributes on their task performance their affective and cognitive experiences, and their interaction behaviors while using the visualization component of ADS 2.0, and would subsequently contribute to the design of bibliographic retrieval systems for scientists.","PeriodicalId":40348,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Library and Information Studies","volume":"14 1","pages":"1-23"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2016-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71316614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Preliminary results are presented of an analysis based on "The Hereditary House of Confucius" in "The Records of the Grand Historian" by Sima Qian that paints a picture of Confucius as an author, as conceived in the 2nd century BCE (the Former Han dynasty). The study uses the method of qualitative content analysis to answer the following research questions: (1) What types of authorship is Confucius said to have performed according to his biography by Sima Qian? (2) What are the works related to Confucius? (3) What does each type of authorship entail? To answer these questions, a three-stage process is conducted to analyze the text: First, isolation of useful segments; then, identification and coding of relevant works mentioned in the biography; and finally, specification and analysis of the outcomes. Tentatively, the analysis has identified at least three types of authorship: writer, editor, and transmitter. As part of a larger study to examine the images of Confucius as an author over time, the primary purpose of the research reported here is to gain more understanding of the author function in Chinese culture. This study's findings are undoubtedly important for expanding research on authorship in KO. Eventually such research will lead to improved KO system design, especially in the area of author data.","PeriodicalId":40348,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Library and Information Studies","volume":"13 1","pages":"227-250"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71316603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Librarians in both collections and public services must be aware of this diversity in order to serve this rapidly growing field. This study was designed to identify core journals in the social work field, the most commonly cited formats and the age of citations, to assess the use of non-social work journals in the social work literature, and to draw comparisons to results in allied health and social science disciplines. The ultimate goal of this work is to provide librarians supporting social work programs with data which can contribute to their assessment of collections, both for maintenance and accreditation, and which can allow them to have a broader understanding of the field and a more effective approach to instruction. 28,269 citations from 567 source articles were examined. Journal articles were the most commonly cited format (69.90%), followed by books (17.69%). Over 91% of all citations came from materials published after 1990 and over 50% of citations came from materials published in the last ten years. Of the 2,520 journals cited, 32 top journals (1.27%) accounted for 6,612 (33.46%) of all citations to journals. Of those 32 journals, six were assigned to the field of social work. The remaining core journals came from the fields of psychology, public health, psychiatry, family and gender studies, pediatrics, and medicine. Format distribution and citation age were found to be similar to that of psychology, health care management, health education, and nurse practitioners. There was little similarity with the fields of addictions treatment and sociology. Practical implications for librarians are discussed.","PeriodicalId":40348,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Library and Information Studies","volume":"13 1","pages":"15-31"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2015-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71316542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
