The starting point is the tension, characteristic of modern society, between the need to express one’s self within the community and the need to assert individual autonomy. The thesis presented here is that Durkheim looks for the sources of contemporary community life through the impact of school and professional groups, instead of the traditional influence of the family and Church. The article examines Durkheim’s argumentation relevant to justifying the thesis. In the final point, two lines of criticism of the Durkheimian concept, the spiritual and the Marxist, are deemed moot, as is the line of comparison between Durkheim’s approach and Zbigniew Kwieciński’s concept of community life.","PeriodicalId":393809,"journal":{"name":"Yearbook of Pedagogy","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122037435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research participants consist of 73 teachers who work with at-risk youths in youth villages in Israel and 70 teachers who work in regular schools, making a total of 143 teachers. A 5-segment self-reporting questionnaire was distributed. The study found a difference in how teachers refer to the factors influencing their departure. In the youth villages, as the factors of support are greater, the factors of departure are more significant. Hence, it is possible to understand that the conclusion that arises from the study is that in order to prevent teacher burnout it is necessary to create many more sources of support, both in regular schools and in youth villages.","PeriodicalId":393809,"journal":{"name":"Yearbook of Pedagogy","volume":"144 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115816361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
{"title":"The Civic Engagement of University Students as a Protective Factor in Terms of the Resilience Concept","authors":"M. Marciniak","doi":"10.2478/rp-2019-0012","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2478/rp-2019-0012","url":null,"abstract":"Summary The paper analyses the relationship between the civic engagement and risk behaviours of young people from the perspective of resilience mechanisms. The resilience concept focuses on social and individual features which protect (give the resistance) against risk factors appearing in adverse living conditions. Civic engagement is included among potential protective factors. Can this engagement can be considered as a protective factor in the context of the crisis of democracy and social capital erosion, and if so, to what extent? The goal of this paper is to analyze the civic engagement of university students as a potential protective factor against risk behaviours, in particular, alcohol abuse. Firstly, the basic assumptions of resilience and civic engagement (in social capital perspective) are defined. The second section is based on selected findings from the study Studenci 2019’ (N=4503): the associations between the degree of civic engagement of university students and alcohol-related problems. The research results show that the students from the group with a higher level of civic engagement (in comparison to those with a lack or low level) are found significantly more often among students with problems related to risk-drinking and alcohol abuse. The article ends with an explanation of thoe findings which may be considered surprising in light of the concept of resilience.","PeriodicalId":393809,"journal":{"name":"Yearbook of Pedagogy","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121933852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the course was to introduce programming elements into classes using ozobots – educational robots. Research was carried out in order to help the students overcome developmental difficulties. The evaluation of the project proves that the additional activities that were carried out enhanced the motivation to learn, fostered children’s curiosity, improved the self-esteem of students with educational difficulties and, as a consequence, reduced the risk of anxiety disorders and child phobia at the stage of early school education.","PeriodicalId":393809,"journal":{"name":"Yearbook of Pedagogy","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124098454","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many reports published in Israel and around the world deal with the powerful and critical impact of this era on individuals and society. In contrast, the professional image of the kindergarten teacher in Israel is seen as being as low-status as in many countries. This professional image influences the choice of teaching profession and the conditions of admission in teacher training colleges. The low-status image is influenced by many publications in the Israeli media. To say these publications are unflattering to the profession and to kindergarten teachers would be an understatement. In this article, I will try to answer the question: How is the kindergarten teacher’s image expressed in publications about kindergarten and kindergarten teachers in the media in Israel? The research tools are ten articles with the kindergarten tag on the news content sites Walla and Mako as of June 2019. The method chosen is content analysis, a research technique for objectively describing media content through which messages can be identified. In so doing, I will draw conclusions about what can be done to improve publications about the profession and at the same time to improve the image of the kindergarten teacher in society.","PeriodicalId":393809,"journal":{"name":"Yearbook of Pedagogy","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127438399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the research was to analyse the individual stages of women’s academic careers in the academic field of pedagogy (humanities and social sciences) in 2013–2019, based on the latest research reports (E. Kulczycki Report and the ‘Science in Poland’Report). The study uses data about pedagogy as a feminized discipline, in which the majority of academic staff are female. The main research question was: How do the individual stages of women’s academic careers in social sciences (especially pedagogy) progress, and what factors determine them? The research method used in this study was what is often referred to in colloquial language as “desk research”, i.e. reviewing and analysing scientific literature, analysing data sources, compiling them and mutual verification. The interpretative background of this research was an analysis of the mechanisms of gender inequalities at universities (related to the mechanisms of the labour market).","PeriodicalId":393809,"journal":{"name":"Yearbook of Pedagogy","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126260805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main focus is on recent times, when so-called ‘school coercion’ was introduced, accompanied by military reform and the debate on violence and obedience among pupils. Yet oppression remained in schools, despite being opposed by the most prominent educators and thinkers of the period. Church institutions also supported the anti-freedom movements in schools. It is against this background that the slogan of the “new upbringing” movement is presented, which was to give a sense of freedom and respect for other people.","PeriodicalId":393809,"journal":{"name":"Yearbook of Pedagogy","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123640176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
