The powerful Ukrainian army, which repeatedly sided with the Polish nobility, could not change the opinionof the author, who throughout his career considered them a destructive force. The Cossacks became such an organicphenomenon in Polish literature that it completely captured the imagination of the Romantics. Polish writers were happyto describe historical events in which Poles and Ukrainians united against a common enemy, such as the Turks. Rawita-Gawroński was no exception, although he was a representative of the period of positivism, but did not completely abandonthe traditions of the previous era. The writer critically assessed the existence and functioning of the Cossacks, whichwas a powerful and multifaceted group of human types, which in turn reveals its apolitical, anti-social and immoralnature. In his novels, Franciszek Rawita-Gawroński tried to avoid the poetics of romanticism, but did not refuse to usethe achievements of Ukrainian folklore, customs, traditions and legends, which are inextricably linked with the Cossacks. In the analyzed novels, Franciszek Rawita-Gawroński used a realistic method, using probability criteria, mainly in the wayof motivating events and figures. Ukrainian Cossacks have always caused a storm of emotions, both positive and negative.Speaking of Rawita-Gawroński, in his works the Cossack has always been a negative character, without taking intoaccount his positive qualities. His Cossack is a robber, a slacker, a drunkard who seeks only robbery and cruelty. However,the only representative of the Ukrainian Cossacks who aroused Rawita-Gawroński's respect was Ivan Mazepa, whomthe author described as a powerful and wise ruler capable of great historically important actions.","PeriodicalId":383737,"journal":{"name":"Folia Philologica","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114646317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The relevance of the discussed issue is determined by the fact that translation activity from a cognitive perspective attracts the attention of many scholars, and the heyday of this activity falls on the border of the 20–21 centuries. Meaning-making as a fundamental aspect of cognitive effort is to be analyzed. The study of mental processes in translation is of high relevance today. A noticeable shift towards the priority of understanding the cognitive process, as well as accumulation of information and knowledge that translator acquires through training and experience has become noticeable. In the research the following methods were used: the method of theoretical data collection and the method of analysis and evaluation of the obtained data. We consider metacognition to be the basis of a translator's cognitive strategy and understand it as strategic control over complex cognitive tasks, in particular translation. Close attention is paid to metacognition as a conscious control over the translator's cognitive tasks. Cognitive effort is considered as a combination of cognitive load with cognitive abilities that should be applied to solve a translation task. The article examines text-centric and translation-centric manifestations of cognitive effort. In addition, it is necessary to consider the subject field of the translator's cognitive resource, to analyze the designation of the cognitive resource at work in the process of translation. In order to illustrate the possibilities of translation, we rely on V. Lerscher's basic, extended and complex structures. On the one hand, the article revealed that simpler structures are rendered in literal translation and require less cognitive effort. On the other hand, more complex structures require considerable cognitive effort. The obtained results are the basis for further study of the cognitive resource as the main leverage in the activity of the translator.","PeriodicalId":383737,"journal":{"name":"Folia Philologica","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126166276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This edition was previously known solely from the old bibliography, where merely its lengthy title was published. The scientific novelty of the present work is due to the fact that it presents a detailed description of the textual structure of Matiasz Czyżewski’s edition based on a well-preserved printed copy identified as a result of archeographic research and kept in the Gdańsk Library of the Polish Academy of Sciences. This printed copy made it possible to determine to what extent the textual material of each of the four main sections (chapters) of this edition was used in a somewhat later book by the author’s brother Piotr Czyżewski’s Alfurkan tatarski…, published by the Vilnius printing house of Józef Karcan in 1616/1617. The main conclusion of the comparative study is that the latter edition most actively used (in a significantly revised form) the textual portions of the second chapter of Matiasz Czyżewski’s brochure, which are directly dealing with the Tatars of the GDL, as well as relatively small fragments of the third and fourth chapters, which, respectively, describe transgressions of the Lithuanian Tatars and advised measures on how to prevent them. Small fragments of the first main section of the Alkoran pamphlet, which tells about Islam in general, are published in the attachment – those that are directly devoted to the Tatars of the GDL, as well as the three auxiliary texts: book’s dedication to the ambassadors to the 1616 Sejm of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, as well as author’s afterword to the reader and his appeal to the Lithuanian Tatars.","PeriodicalId":383737,"journal":{"name":"Folia Philologica","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122214750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Realization of the set purpose provides the decision of a number of tasks, in particular: 1) definition of the extra- and intralingual factors providing construction in mass consciousnessof recipients of a positive image of our state; 2) media monitoring of current image publications about Ukraine in nationaland foreign mass media, which directly influence the formation of Ukraine's image; 3) elucidation of the main linguisticmarkers of modeling the positive image of Ukraine in such publications.Scientific novelty. The author considers the modeling of the state image in the context of media linguistic imageology –the newest direction of modern linguistics, focused on the search for linguistic dominants of image creation in the media.The author emphasizes the importance of taking into account a set of linguistic and extralinguistic criteria of state imagecreation, which include: broad informing of Ukrainian and foreign audiences about the main victories, achievementsof the country in various social spheres, what the leading state institutions and organizations are doing today (UkrainianInstitute, “Image Agency of Ukraine”, Ukraine Crisis Media Center, etc.), the use of special image-forming markersthat form in the mass consciousness of recipients a positive perception of Ukraine, such as emotional-evaluativeepithets, periphrastic, metaphorical constructions, phraseological transformations with expressive component etc. Thearticle analyzes the current image publications about Ukraine that appear in the media in connection with the releaseof the Ukrainian national football team in the Euro-2020 finals and the victories of Ukrainian athletes at the OlympicGames in Tokyo-2021.In conclusion, the author emphasizes that the problem of state image-building is extremely relevant forlinguistics, where the priority is to analyze the linguistic features of image creation. The purpose of the study is to analyze the connotative vocabulary on the material of meteorological texts in a comparative aspect, namely in modern German and Ukrainian languages. The study defines the features of weather forecast texts at the lexical level; identifies and examines groups of terms used in television meteorological texts; analyzes allomorphic and isomorphic features of stylistically marked vocabulary on the material of German and Ukrainian texts. The research analyzed 12 texts of weather forecasts on TV channels in Germany and Ukraine (6 weather forecasts in each language). It has been proven that the compact volume and informative function of meteorological texts require the use of terminological vocabulary, namely groups of lexemes to indicate different types of precipitation, cloudiness, temperature, and wind characteristics. Terminological vocabulary is easily perceived by the viewer, because it reflects the expected development of weather processes and conditions. The identified common features for synoptic texts are the presence of synonymy in the use of terminological units. Thus, both analyzed languages provide synonym ring for the designation of cloudiness and precipitation, the synonym ring for the designation of air temperature is revealed in German only. the German language. Due to the analysis of the synonym rings both full and semantic synonyms, as well as general language and contextually synonymous units were outlined. The study of synonyms depending on their functioning at different language levels explicated that both lexical and syntactic synonyms are represented in the compared languages, morphological synonyms were found in Ukrainian language as well. Distinctive features of German and Ukrainian meteorological texts are, first of all, the quantitative features of the lexemes used to describe various weather conditions, in particular, windiness and precipitation, as well as more or less branched synonymous series.","PeriodicalId":383737,"journal":{"name":"Folia Philologica","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127025993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our country clearly defines its orientation towards entering the educational and scientific space of Europe and improves scientific research and educational activities in the context of European requirements. The European integration orientation is perceived as a certain challenge in the field of philology because European integration is not only about politics or economics; it is also about culture, art, science, and education. The scientific achievements of philological studies serve as certain actualizers of knowledge about our past and present, helping to overcome international disputes and undoubtedly contributing to inter-societal unification in the modern globalized world. The purpose of the scientific research is to analyze the artistic heritage of Bruno Schulz by creating a systematized analytical and informational presentation of video materials about the outstanding artist available on the Internet. This aims to popularize his unique multifaceted creativity in the context of European integration at the philological level, particularly in the field of literary studies. As far as we know, there are no scientific studies that would systematize and analyze online video information about the literary discourse of Galician writers, in particular Bruno Schulz. The research employs the method of cultural and logical analysis of the artistic work. The study presents video content for understanding specific – artistic or visual – works or the entirety of Bruno Schulz’s creative oeuvre. Schulz’s discourse on the Internet is shaped by various video materials such as lectures, presentations, webinars, walks, excursions, reports, interviews, cartoons, documentaries, feature films, etc. The video meetings with Bruno Schulz presented in the scientific study will contribute to the reading of Schulz’s prose, engaging with the Master’s graphic works, and visiting magical Schulz’s places, among other aspects.","PeriodicalId":383737,"journal":{"name":"Folia Philologica","volume":"10 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123695847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, it is possible to verify the results obtained independently in various fields of humanities of the 20th century. The present article compares rhythmical patterns of songs with explicit ritual use from different ethnic groups speaking Indo-European languages (Slavic, Baltic, Greek, Albanian, Iranian, and others). In these songs, there are two main types of stable rhythm patterns (0101/0100 and 011/010) which correlate with two main types of Indo-European poetic metrical patterns independently reconstructed by Indo-European linguistics. It suggests that folk songs preserved a range of possible Indo-European rhythmic patterns, even though languages have changed prosodic properties over time. The present study follows the track of previous studies, which showed partial parallels in Baltic, Slavic-Balcan, and Indo-Aryan song patterns, which loans could not explain. Further analysis of rhythmic patterns revealed their connections with prosodic and syntactic properties of Indo-European sentence. Relative rhythmic complexity of possible Indo-European musical idiom may be correlated to the rhythmic complexity of textiles that may be connected to some Indo-European speaking ethnic groups. The parallels outside the Indo-European cultural range show possible Uralic and Caucasian components of Indo-European musical idiom, which may indicate components of ethnogenesis of Indo-European ethnic groups. Thus ethnomusicology may be regarded as an independent source for studying prehistory, along with linguistics, archeology, and genetics. Though proposed in the 20th century by B. Bartok, V. Goshovsky, G. Luko, this program of ethnomusicological research has not yet been implemented.","PeriodicalId":383737,"journal":{"name":"Folia Philologica","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123320724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The latter presupposes a research vector from mental processes to their verbalization. Proceeding from the nature of the subject-matter under study, namely Anglophone advertising slogans of online stores, the article puts emphasis on addresser's intention to satisfy the needs of a potential client. On the one hand, advertising is aimed at satisfying certain human aspirations. On the other hand, it creates a sense of potential needs of the consumer. Based on this A. Maslow's classification of needs has been adopted. Applying the elements of functional and onomasiological analysis to the studied Anglophone advertising slogans, it has bocome possible to single out five functional and onomasiological groups (FOG): VU (verbal units) for denoting physiological needs (food, coffee, nutrition; home, living; clothing, dress, shoes); VU for denoting safety needs (safer, law; doctor, medicine, apothecary, healthcare); VU for denoting social needs (family, moms, kids; party); VU for denoting need for respect and self-recognition (style, premier, trends; jewellery, diamonds; brand; quality, classic, vintage; beauty; tech; the first, best); VU for denoting selfactualization needs (books, music; inspire, create, impress, early education, learning academy. Each FOG contains several microgroups. As evidenced by the analyzed FOGs, the function of nominating concepts related to human needs is performed by different-level verbal unitsunits, lexemes, although occasionally such a function is assigned to noun phrases or simple verbal sentences. It has been illustrated that the functional and onomasiological characteristics of Anglophone advertising slogans are the components of verbally encoded marketing plans. Namely, the article examined epigraphs in detail as structural elements of narratives of women’s prose, which acquire manipulative characteristics and influence the construction of the corresponding narratives. The research has reviewed the narrative spaces of modern French writers artists, namely T. de Rosney and A.-M. Lugan. For the first time, the manipulative functions of individual structural elements of the artistic space, which influence not only the organization of the narrative, but also the narrative technique of modern women’s prose, were revealed on the material of the works of French authors in the course of narratological research. This article has outlined the main paradigms of poetics. Special focus is laid on the analysis of the literary narrative spaces theory, the research on manipulative influence, in particular, speech manipulation. Narrative techniques of novels by French writers T. de Rosney and A.-M. Lugan are characterized and described. The formulated features of epigraphs as structural elements of the narrative space are focused on the manipulative influence that these compositional positions of the organization of the literary narrative receive. The research revealed that female writers gravitate towards certain narrative techniques. So, for example, the works of T. de Rosney belong to the heterodiegetic type of narration, while A.-M. Lugan tries to create in the form of homodiegetic type. Such differentiation can be explained by the personal worldview of these writers, since one of them (A.-M. Lugan) worked as a psychologist for a long time, which led to the choice of the narrative technique (from the first person, focused on the outside). In accordance with the type of narrative, epigraphs for each of the novels were also chosen. So, for the heterodiegetic narrative type, epigraphs represent famous people's quotes, which implicitly indicate the plot and structure of the corresponding narrative space. Whereas the homodiegetic type of narration tends to choose mostly scholars', particlularly Z. Freud's, quotes, which contributes to the manipulation of readers, since it is aimed at the readers’ emotions.","PeriodicalId":383737,"journal":{"name":"Folia Philologica","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133620928","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The presence of a large number of social and political nationally-biased vocabulary determines the genre specifics of their construction in mass media. It preconditions the relevance of the social and political nationally-biased vocabulary of Great Britain studies in the context of video genres diversity, among which are debates, political shows, and video interviews. In the discourse under consideration meaning making takes place in integration of different semiotic modes. In particular, verbal – scripts of original video interviews, political shows, and debates, where socio-political nationally-biased vocabulary functions. In turn, visual mode is represented by static and dynamic visual images. The former include photos, diagrams, graphs, etc. Dynamic images embrace change of visual images in videos. Both static and dynamic images accompany verbal representation of nationally-biased vocabulary. Kinesic semiotic mode is manifested via gestures, facial expressions of participants in original video interviews, political shows, and debates. An auditory mode is represented by a melody that accompanies the verbal representation of nationally-biased vocabulary. The aim of the article is to identify the nature and types of social and political nationally-biased vocabulary in present-day British political discourse of various video genres. The concept of \"social and political nationally-biased vocabulary\" is defined, the classification of social and political nationallybiased vocabulary from the standpoint of multimodality theory is specified. The article reveals specific features of the use of social and political nationally-biased vocabulary by the representatives of British political elite.
