The\u0000 analysis shows a range of transformations in the teachers’ perceptions and practices as well as their perceived and structural\u0000 challenges in implementing pedagogical translanguaging for content-integrated literacy instruction. The first stage of\u0000 this study involved identifying instances of POOM in Iranian films on the basis of their locutions (forms) and culture-specific\u0000 contextual features and underlying concepts. At this stage we highlighted the potential problems that may be encountered when\u0000 relaying the meaning of POOMs in English, and described the translation strategies used by the subtitlers. In order to corroborate\u0000 our findings, we also conducted a survey of the perceptions of non-Iranian viewers. On the basis of our analysis, we conclude\u0000 that, owing to subtitling restrictions such as space and time, subtitlers can rely on information provided in the preceding and\u0000 following scenes of instances of POOM as well as dialogues, audiences’ familiarity with Persian culture, and similarities with\u0000 other cultures in order to avoid mistranslations or misunderstandings.

Jazini
\u0000The translation policy model by González Núñez (2013, 475) comprises three elements, namely “translation management”, “translation practices”, and “translation beliefs”. While the first two elements of this model are straightforward and easy to study in top-down approaches, translation beliefs can relate both to policymakers and policy receivers. However, the distinction has not been clearly made in this model and the element of translation beliefs has been chiefly treated in the literature as though it comes from the top levels of policymaking, hence overlooking the bottom-up aspects of it (see González Núñez 2014, 2016; Li et al. 2017). In order to improve this model, the present paper draws on the audience reception theory (Hall 1973), and shows that the current translation policy model requires a fourth element that I would call ‘translation reception’. The paper draws on the findings of a reception-oriented case study on translation policies in provincial broadcasting in Iran. This study argues that a more inclusive model of translation policy should not only include the authority-level elements of translation management, translation practices, and translation beliefs, but also the element of translation reception on the part of policy receivers. This way, I hope, the end users’ involvement in and contribution to the translation policy network will not be overlooked in subsequent research.

Superdiversity challenges any nation\u0000 state’s ideological claim of being representative of only one culture and one language, and indeed, in relation to the latter,\u0000 highlights the increasing phenomenon of translanguaging, both in the wider world of social interactions and in the classroom.\u0000 In this context, it is argued here that interpreter training needs to respond to superdiversity and\u0000 translanguaging, as future interpreters are part of the same social world, and will undoubtedly encounter translanguaging in their\u0000 future professional life. In superdiverse and translanguaging societies, source and target languages are no longer a one-to-one\u0000 linguistic and cultural translation, but a far more fluid, dynamic and multiple interchange of repertoires and resources that\u0000 people access in multi-varied and multi-functional ways.\u0000 In this increasingly complex scenario, languages are not seen as bounded entities, but rather as fluid and\u0000 interchangeable in the situated moment, and this, it is argued, needs to be reflected in pedagogy. Moreover, translanguaging\u0000 (between bi/multilinguals) has been shown to promote greater cognitive development when tackling complex issues and rationalising\u0000 processes. Also, translanguaging aids social and professional identity work, as interpreter students develop their understandings\u0000 of the role their future interpreter life can and need to play in their career. Drawing on my own research and the observations\u0000 made on the present and future needs of interpreting studies, a ‘translanguaging space’ (Li\u0000 Wei 2011) is proposed for curriculum design in interpreter training.

The paper analyses in detail how the translator rewrites the novel’s poetological features, including\u0000 its unique linguistic, stylistic and narrative features, to produce a translation which is accessible to the intended audience. On\u0000 the basis of this analysis, the paper identifies three characteristics of Goldblatt’s poetological rewriting: (1) macro-stylistic\u0000 consistency with the source text, i.e. overall stylistic conformity to the original work; (2) simplification principle; (3)\u0000 typical features of authentic English writing. The analysis reveals poetological manipulation in the translation process, from\u0000 which we infer that rewriting in favour of the target poetological currents is the best way to achieve reader acceptance.

It focuses on documents produced as part of several mandatory compliance monitoring procedures in the field of human rights. The study is part of a broader project on legal translation in international organisations (LETRINT), which considers terminological consistency and adequacy as indicators of translation quality, and examines the impact of legal asymmetry on both dimensions. To shed light on the first of these indicators, a comprehensive analysis of intertextual and intratextual variations of English-Spanish and French-Spanish translations of thirty terms was conducted. Over five thousand bi- and trilingual segments, extracted from three ad-hoc multilingual and parallel corpora, were examined. They cover the period between 2000 and 2017, and refer to six legal systems. At the intertextual level, the results corroborate that legal asymmetry has a significant impact on translation decision-making, while the assessment of intratextual variation points to a link between source text length, documental series and the degree of terminological consistency.
