The website Compartilha1, an online sharing platform, has been conceived according to the importance given to the collaboration between all education agents on the definition and implementation of the educational project of children/youth with special needs (SN) and considering that the promotion of linguistic skills (stimulation of oral and written language) is crucial if we aim to operationalize an inclusive process. Compartilha2 encourages the sharing of knowledge and resources in order to decrease the gap of communication amongst the different agents working with SN. This website also intends to support the process of enabling and empowering professionals and families in the effective use of digital technologies in SN field, promoting the universal participation of all.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134320085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the project we use the concept of the curiosity cabinet as our core 'learning enabling' metaphor. To enable the creation of learning experiences we are combining the curiosity cabinet metaphor with a set of artefacts (real of virtual objects) so that educators can set the stage for the learning experience. Moreover, we also facilitate learners to design and create their learning spaces by accessing the artefacts collection and selecting items they find appropriate to include in their spaces attaching additional information related to the respective learning experience. Therefore, learning spaces created during a learning experience support both highly individualized curiosity cabinets as well a shared space to co-design, co-create and share the learning artefacts. This supports both the personalized learning spaces for the individual learning to develop agency of learning, as well as collaborative group learning spaces. These personalized and collaborative learning spaces evolve over time to reflect changes in the learning and development and, habits and needs of each particular learner or group of learners.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123539819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its use case scenario is the education and training of foreign languages and intercultural communication skills, were contextualization and first person experiences in common settings are key for practical skill acquisitions. It was born as the microscience-fiction prototype \"Frances can't sleep. She crawls out of bed and with her EmbodiMentor runs through a range of a client's emotional states, pitching to each one. She then falls asleep.\" The application of the science fiction prototyping concept has been proven a strong approach to develop and investigate innovative applications of emerging technologies.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124557097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These translation techniques have an important role as enablers of the access to television content by people with special needs, namely persons with visual impairments, illiterate people and persons who do not comprehend another spoken language besides the native one. Currently, the production methods of audiovisual translation techniques are expensive and complex, involving several professionals and procedures. However, the current technological convergence paradigm inherent to Television provides great opportunities to enhance these techniques, leveraging the number of translated TV content and bringing relevant socio-economic impacts. In this context, this paper aims to address and discuss two inclusive approaches for audiovisual translation production (collaborative/spontaneous AD and automatic reading of subtitles) in an Interactive Television (iTV) context, benefiting a wide range of viewers' profiles. Based on a focus group with experts on the iTV field, we found that the proposed approaches are relevant and applicable in functional and technological terms.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"181 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115414980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Decision-making power requires understanding. Understanding requires accessible information. Easy-to-Read can help to make information accessible for a wide range of target groups, especially for people with cognitive disabilities. The goal of Participatory Research is to maximize the participation of those whose life or work is the subject of the research. This paper follows the understanding of Participatory Research as a research paradigm claimed by the International Collaboration for Participatory Health Research (ICPHR). To make participation of people who are belonging to a certain target group at all possible, comprehensive information has to be accessible for all members of the research group. Participation in this sense means to give decision-making authority to the target group [1]. Decision making authority requires understanding and knowledge about the research issue, the process, and transparent distribution of competences in the first place. Responsible decisions can only be made with enough knowledge about the possible impacts of the decision. Participatory social research with people with cognitive disabilities means to qualify them to influence the research process and make decisions on well-informed and equal bases. A key factor in this process is Easy-to-Read information. The main objective of Easy-to-Read and the \"capito\"-network is to make information accessible for a defined target group [2]. The \"capito\"-method therefore developed a set of criteria, a quality standard and a protected seal of quality, which is only given when the text is reviewed by representatives of the target group. This paper discusses how Easy-to-Read can enable Participatory Research by empowering co-researchers with non-scientific background by providing accessible information. It shows an example of a participatory research group that consists of people with cognitive disabilities and social scientists. Frame conditions, used methods and challenges in practice are described in this paper.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131094348","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Alternative ways of interaction based on computer vision may be successfully adapted in particular cases of disability. This paper purposes a vision-based assistive technology to help a child with a degenerative neuromuscular disease to interact with the computer through facial expression recognition. The proposed algorithm was evaluated in images extracted from videos of the child and the preliminary results indicate that computer-interaction via facial expression recognition can break down barriers for people with reduced mobility regarding their relation with computers.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114226816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research population consisted mainly by Kindergarten children. Based on the findings and the overall experience, even considering the design mistakes that occurred, this paper argues upon the deriving value of exploiting multimodal digital representations in the form of a story in order to cultivate empathy towards children with ASD and thus, facilitate social interaction and inclusion. This approach can be useful in mixed population classrooms, but in a wider educational context as well.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"315 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123638874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ability to read and understand these signs is important but also a cultural technique and not trivial. Graphic signs also play an important role in the field of alternative and augmentative communication, especially for illiterate people, people with learning disabilities or people from different language communities. For this reason, accessible communication concepts have to deal with linguistic, psychological and cultural aspects of graphic signs. In this paper advantages and disadvantages of graphic signs for accessible information are discussed to provide criteria for the readability of graphic signs.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128422355","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
