This methodology was applied to a project which aimed at helping people with Down's Syndrome and those with similar conditions and needs, to be more included in society. The project is developed by a consortium of commercial, academic, and end-user supporting organizations. One important feature of the methodology is that of being strongly user-centred and we report on how that interaction with users took place and how it continuously shaped the project.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130778689","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper studies the impact of the body position on the usability of VR environments. For the effect, a case study was undertaken based on a bicycle ride that considers two body positions: riding the bicycle seated with the feet on the pedals and hands in the handlebar; and standing with the feet on the ground and the hands on the handlebar. On both cases they had control over the bicycle (steer and brakes). These two body positions were considered as they will allow studying in detail the impact of the different body positions: the first condition mimics the real body position of the depicted scenario while the second condition tests an alternate body position. Results regarding the system's effectiveness have shown an 100% success rate as all participants concluded the task successfully and there were no dropouts. The efficiency results have revealed that the more the participants used the VE the less the number of errors they made and that the completion time differences between the tested conditions were insignificant (> 0.5 seconds). As for satisfaction, participants reported a preference towards the standing position. Furthermore, results reveal that body position has impact on the users' performance but it does not necessarily affect their satisfaction over the virtual experience.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131769615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After the first two stages, which comprise preliminary and comparative studies, the third stage described in this article proposes a proof of concept to explore a set of mobile apps. The preliminary study allowed the validation of a conceptual model and of a prototype based on the instantiation of daily routine moments (Pre Event, Event and Post Event), while the comparative study supported the selection of the most suitable mobile device to use (smartphone). During the third stage the conceptualization and proof of concept of a personalized learning scenario to enhance digital and financial literacies was organized. The overall results of this research underline the importance of using mobile learning approaches with teens with a similar profile as the participant of our case study, namely as far as daily routines and financial literacy are concerned, which we believe are of utmost importance to promote their participation in a more inclusive society.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132627701","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially legislation and legal notifications are often hard to understand. The approach presented in this paper explains an app and its' underlying online system that enables users to read such information, adapted to their individual reading skills. The online system allows managing and translating complex information of notifications. It maps a three-step process of translation including stakeholders located at different institutions on a CMS, which provides information of scalable complexity in terms of language level and level of detail. Users can simple use an app for mobile devices to access this information. The app is used to identify documents with the built-in QR-code reader utilizing the back-facing camera of the smart device. After identification of this specific instance of the document, the app fetches the information, including personal data and presents it at the user-preferred language level. Privacy and security issues where considered as well as requirements necessary to ensure accessibly.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121171559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Elderly people frequently appoint complex interface and perceived usefulness as cause for not using health-related ICT. There is little information about preferences and interests of this specific population for tailored and customized technology, but according to the current literature; older users and caregivers both think that accessible and interactive design is the main aspiration. Besides that, they consider important some functionalities, especially for social interactions purposes. This study was conducted to address the interest, preferences and problems with an application for personalizing the tablet; with health older adults and social networking of dependent elderly individuals and to propose a new design for it. After using a skin app prototype, the 35 volunteers from 3 groups (independent older adults, informal and for- mal caregivers) were interviewed in order to suggest changes and help us to propose a new design for an Android skin. The main findings were analyzed according to interface and functionalities preferences in order to develop the concept to a new application. The prototype is called ANNI, available at Google Play Store.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126361269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this article we analyse the ACACIA Project (561754-EPP-1-2015-1-CO-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP) and reflect on the experiences in the work package called \"Cultiva\" - one of the packages proposed innovative practices of inclusion. The challenge is to change traditional ways of looking at the dropout and failure of students, especially in teacher training in an organizational section named CADEP (Centro de Apoyo y Desarrollo Educativo y Profesional). In this paper, we present the changes made in the organizational development aspects of these traditional institutions with respect to how teachers are formed with respect to their personal, cognitive, interpretive, and practical skills. The focus of the analysis is the university education aiming that populations in marginal situations are not excluded from training processes for their vulnerability.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131117637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We created this application to be a solution for music education for this group of people. For that we present the development and implementation of the app. We choose the virtual piano and the mobile devices as the basis for our solution. It was conducted an assessment of the current status and features of mobile applications also using this paradigm, from which we concluded that, currently, there is not a virtual piano application oriented to people with intellectual disabilities so we design, develop and tested a new application, the \"Professor Piano\". To validate the \"Professor Piano\" application approach, we evaluated the application usage by a group of people with intellectual disabilities, without having too much user experience with mobile technologies, with the aim to measure the effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction. We registered the following variables: success in a conclusion of a level (effectiveness); the percentage of correct notes played versus all notes of that level (efficiency); and the motivation at the end of the experience (satisfaction). The results obtained shows the interest and motivation of the users in playing with the application. In the four tests, three persons completed and wanted to continue the testing experience. This results also shows the importance of using an intuitive design and also of displaying the score at the end of each level, giving an extra boost to the user to replay or advance to the next level.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128937745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite this scenario, the proposal of digital applications for children and youth with ASD continues to attract little attention, namely, regarding the promotion of deductive reasoning, an area of great interest for individuals with this disorder. Due to its heterogeneity, ASD are an interesting filed to explore the potential of using universal design for learning (UDL) approaches. This paper describes a learning environment developed under this universal scope, emphasizing the results obtained during evaluation sessions conducted with end users aiming to evaluate a prototype of this environment with dynamic adaptation features and specifically designed to support the development of Mathematical Reasoning in children with ASD. The results obtained during the evaluation sessions reveal that the digital environment is of easy interaction, simple and intuitive, and has a great potential to be an important tool to support the promotion of mathematical reasoning in children with ASD. The data collected allowed the identification of some adjustments that must be performed to improve the digital environment.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131596024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The probability of success is maximized when such concerns are taken into consideration from the very beginning and users take center stage in the development process, and continue throughout the development and testing stages. Centering in the users also increases inclusion. Furthermore, design is an interdisciplinary activity conducted by people with distinct backgrounds. It is a challenging task to build cohesive design teams working seamlessly towards a common goal. For these reasons is important to develop consistent methodologies that are able to put users at the center of development, and use information on their emotional states and personality. Such methodologies are being used successfully in the computer game industry, where the process of user-centered development is a natural concept to achieve success. This work proposes a gamified methodology named Services & Products Gamified Design (SPGD) that can be used to design any user centered service or product. The proposal is based on a card game that offers a low cost solution to easily manipulate information and allows a complete understanding of the target objectives regardless of the designers' background. SPGD provides an innovative way to create a highly communicative environment based on game design by treating users holistically, including their needs, emotions and personality, and putting them at center of the design process. Treating the users holistically and putting them at the center of the project, the SGPD has strong potential for application in services and products for persons with special needs and/or disabilities.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131717295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current television distribution infrastructures, since supplemented with a return channel and appropriated Set-Top Boxes (STB), open an interesting opportunity for the creation of an iTV service that integrates advanced features and can be automatically adjusted to the preferences of users with visual impairment. In this context, this paper proposes an adapted iTV service for visually impaired users complemented by an automatic user identification system. With this complementarity, the service can be dynamically adjusted to the preferences of the user that is in fact watching TV, automatically invoking the options previously selected in the respective settings.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130968092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
