Studies showed that guidelines do not cover all the problems encounter by users with disabilities. This study investigates the problems found by seven accessibility experts in 62 accessibility evaluation reviews of mobile and desktop websites as well as mobile applications. Each evaluation conducted an accessibility review using Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 AA. In addition, experts highlighted potential issues which were not covered by these guidelines but could be potential issues encountered by people with disabilities. The study depicts those issues that were raised by experts during those audits but were not covered by the WCAG 2.0 guidelines. Finally, the study provides additional knowledge into potential problems as identified by experts and recommends techniques that developers and designers can use to create more accessible websites.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"301 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115931804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Innovation theory suggests that dissatisfied users who stand to benefit from having their unmet needs solved, are likely to be product innovators. However, among disabled persons, little empirical research has thus far been done to determine their degree of ideation, or which characteristics are associated with product ideators. Within this study, we present results from a survey of 178 persons with disabilities, exploring their ideas for products. A panel of two expert judges evaluated their ideas based on user value, feasibility and originality. Using the total score of these three attributes, we used a hierarchical multiple regression model to explore which user attributes can be associated with the best ideas. Our results indicate that overall product dissatisfaction and academic degree ownership both effect idea quality. Furthermore, 12% of respondents also generated ideas that are relevant for non-disabled people.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121962099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, the main goal of this study is to identify research works that provide evidence of the use of DigComp Framework (put forward in 2013 and reviewed in 2016 by the European Commission Joint Research Center -- Institute for Prospective Technological Studies) as theoretical basis for the design of teaching/learning strategies to develop digital competence, in particular as to problem solving. Consequently, this paper puts forward the results of an exploratory literature review, focussed on the open access studies (published between 2013 and 2016), in which teaching and learning strategies, grounded on DigComp Framework, are outlined. In general, results of the content analysis suggest that DigComp is primarily used for digital competence assessment and evaluation, and none of the selected works conveys examples on how digital competence development can be enhanced in concrete teaching and learning scenarios.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"25 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121005499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Twelve publicly accessible Facebook communities were examined operating in German. We analyzed the content published within a six-week period with the instrument, comprising relational, substantive and technical aspects of communities. The relational aspect covered the organization of communities, the substantive aspect covered communication between community members and and the technical aspect pertained to accessibility indicators. Results revealed three main findings. Firstly, analyzed communities are mostly established and led by institutions, organizations or associations. On average, communities have 1,385 members and their aim is to support d/Deaf people in personal, educational and professional domains. Secondly, both sign and written language are used in communities, and communication between the administrator and members most frequently takes place. Thirdly, the feature of posting videos is available in most of the communities analyzed to an administrator only, while the feature of posting comments by videos is not technically available at all. Our findings may aid in understanding that Facebook communities for d/Deaf and hard of hearing people mainly support activities of communities in the offline world where the influence of institutions which initiated online communities is still evident.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131667834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Blind people usually have enhanced accuracy and sensibility of their other natural senses in order to sense their surroundings. But sometimes this is not enough because the human senses can be affected by external sources of noise or disease. That is why technology has been used to develop many assistive tools. Artifacts like white canes or braille compasses help blind people moving around in the environment. In this article, the use of a system that detects and recognize nearby objects or obstacles is proposed, giving an audible feedback to the user. It is designed as a wireless system in order to be comfortable to be carried by the user. The system helps visual impaired people to move around in indoor or outdoor scenarios. The goals of this blind guide system is to detect obstacles that white canes or dogs cannot, extending its detection range.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129246159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objective of this work lies in the elderly mobility assessment through the acquisition of electromyography, and accelerometer signals while they perform the Timed Up and Go test. In this study participated 20 elderlies: 7 males and 13 females aged between 65 and 94 years. The study evaluated the biosignals electromyography in muscles rectus femoris, biceps femoris, rectus abdominis and lumbar iliocostalis. The triaxial accelerometer was placed on the head to measure the acceleration of the movement of the head while the elderly performs the Timed Up and Go test. With this work we confirm, as expected, a weak mobility among the participants, some being evaluated with very low disability and only a small part with reduced mobility. Finally, it's essential to pay more efforts to create and improve forecasting strategies to prevent and/or identify mobility changes in the elderly.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130522304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, many older adults face difficulties when introduced to the devices and, as a result, they may end up being excluded from circles that require them to be educated in the corresponding technology. In such context, we designed a one-year course to teach older adults to use smartphones and tablets. Our long term aim is to propose a teaching format that would allow both replication and iterative improvement definition. In this paper we discuss preliminary results from the offering of the course over two years. We present an overview of the structure of the course and outline the typical demographics of our students. We also detail, for the current offering (Semester 2/2016), which applications students use more frequently after one semester of course. In particular, with respect to connectivity, we report the number of messages exchanged via WhatsApp by the students during a period of six months. We also comment on testimonials of students that have taken the course, who present their impressions, and of students that are about to start the course, who report their expectation.","PeriodicalId":334897,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130945510","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
