Here we perform phone recognition experiments on features that are extracted from the patches of the critical-band log-energy spectrum by applying the two-dimensional cosine trans-form. We find that in phone recognition experiments the proposed feature set yields results similar to the standard MFCC features under clean conditions, while it provides a significantly smaller performance degradation in noisy conditions. Moreover, we show that the new and the standard features can be readily combined to improve the recognition accuracy still further.","PeriodicalId":334381,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th IEEE International Symposium on Applied Computational Intelligence and Informatics (SACI)","volume":"163 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127298225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, showing live actions on the teacher's desktop to a remote student has great instructional value that must not be overlooked. Similarly, a student can demonstrate skills that would otherwise need a physical presence in a classroom, rather than a virtual one. Remote desktop can accomplish all of this and more. This paper aims to present some of the tools available and a few specific scenarios where they are most effectively used.","PeriodicalId":334381,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th IEEE International Symposium on Applied Computational Intelligence and Informatics (SACI)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123641267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The presented system can deal with images of persons captured in natural indoor scenes. The system's robustness against external influences and different person appearance is achieved by employing the idea of improving the image processing robustness by including feedback control at the image segmentation level. The effectiveness of the proposed system is demonstrated by the comparison of gait features, namely knee angles, extracted automatically with the features directly measured using a goniometer. Also a small database is created to extract the gait pattern of healthy subjects. The obtained data is compared to data from medical literature and is also compared to data obtained from persons having a pathological gait.","PeriodicalId":334381,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th IEEE International Symposium on Applied Computational Intelligence and Informatics (SACI)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114786946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this paper is to develop a self-organizing map for interval data. Due to the increasing use of such data in Data Mining, many clustering methods for interval data have been proposed this last decade. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to train the self-organizing map for interval data. We use an extension of the Euclidian distance to compare two vectors of intervals. In order to show the usefulness of our approach, we apply the proposed algorithm on real interval data issued from meteorological stations in China.","PeriodicalId":334381,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th IEEE International Symposium on Applied Computational Intelligence and Informatics (SACI)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127674006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The framework and algorithms to generate the hardware from an Intermediate Representation (IR) of the C code is needed. This paper presents the conceiving, design, and development of a module that generates the hardware for custom instructions identified by specialized SHIRA components without the need for any user interaction. The module is programmed in Java and takes a Data Flow Graph (DFG) as an IR for input. It then generates VHDL code that targets the Altera Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA). It is possible to use separate components for each operation or to set a maximum number for each component which leads to component reuse and reduces chip area use. The performance improvement of the generated code is compared to using only the processor's standard instruction set.","PeriodicalId":334381,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th IEEE International Symposium on Applied Computational Intelligence and Informatics (SACI)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125622792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A classic example of a backtracking algorithm is illustrated by finding all solutions to the problem of placing N-queens on an N × N chess board such that no two queens attack each other. This paper demonstrates a methodology for rewriting this backtracking algorithm to take advantage of multi-core computing resources. We accelerated a sequential version of the N-queens problem on ×86 and PPC64 architectures. Using problem sizes between 13 and 17, we observed an average speedup of 3.24 for ×86 and 9.24 for the PPC64.","PeriodicalId":334381,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th IEEE International Symposium on Applied Computational Intelligence and Informatics (SACI)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134078617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After describing the working principle of the autocollimator, the calibration procedure is outlined. It is comparison based, where the small angles are derived from relatively large displacements. Following the presentation of the operation of the small angle generator, the various error sources are discussed. Finally the paper gives a summary of the calculation of the extended calibration uncertainty.","PeriodicalId":334381,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th IEEE International Symposium on Applied Computational Intelligence and Informatics (SACI)","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132619595","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
