At first glance, it seems that Balinese art and culture are holding up well. In fact, various media reports that several art forms have become extinct, such as the Sang Hyang dance, the baris kraras dance, the wayang wong dance, and so on. Even in Karangasem, there are ten traditional arts that have become extinct. In Badung Regency, there are fifteen types of culture that are almost extinct, as well as in Buleleng and Denpasar. It is very important to save endangered art forms by using audio-visual media, especially documentary films. There is a documentary that is very interesting to study, namely a documentary entitled \"Sang Hyang Jaran: Teja Darmaning Kauripan\". This film records the re-embodiment of the art of the Sang Hyang Jaran dance in Sanur Kaja Village, which was once extinct. The problem studied in this study is how to use the documentary film \"Sang Hyang Jaran: Teja Darmaning Kauripan\" as a medium for preserving traditional arts? This research is a qualitative descriptive study using observation and interview data collection methods. Data analysis in this study used the Milles interactive model procedure with three stages of data analysis, namely (1) data reduction, (2) data presentation, and (3) verification or drawing conclusions. The result of this study is that the use of this film as a medium for preserving traditional arts can be seen from two elements, namely the first element is the visual element which includes the proactive observationalism and reactive observationalism, and the second element is verbal testimony.","PeriodicalId":320633,"journal":{"name":"Lekesan: Interdisciplinary Journal of Asia Pacific Arts","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114698295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are three gender assessment criteria used to re-read the story of the Amba character in the Mahabharata comic by Gun Gun. The three criteria are (1) Activity Analysis, (2) Control/Dominance Analysis, and (3) Impact Analysis. Amba is one of the king's daughters who gets unfair treatment in her life. Regarding this treatment as a symbolic fact, it is important to re-read the character and life story of Dewi Amba with gender studies. This study uses a descriptive design with qualitative methods. The type of data in this study is qualitative data in the form of visual text and verbal text of the Mahabharata comic by Gun Gun in the story of Kutukan Dewi Amba (Dewi Amba's Curse). Data analysis was carried out by identifying and describing the data, classifying the data, analyzing it based on the gender study criteria that had been formulated, and drawing conclusions. The results show that in this context the dominant stereotype that women are weak and men are strong is deeply emphasized. The woman who is described as Dewi Amba is the party who is most unfairly treated due to male domination in her life.","PeriodicalId":320633,"journal":{"name":"Lekesan: Interdisciplinary Journal of Asia Pacific Arts","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128048006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the past, the nobles of the Badung kingdom had exclusive rights to Payas Agung (Balinese Traditional Uniform) which were used only at certain times, such as religious rituals and traditional events. Payas Agung Badung is still used today. specifically for weddings and tooth-filling in the Badung district and Denpasar city. The unique nature of this dress does not only come from the material and design aspects but also from the socio-cultural aspect, especially the artistic value of Payas Agung Badung clothing, which has a strong character. Traditional fabrics harmoniously blend with Balinese jewelry. The focus of this research is on jewelry which is the center of attention of the overall appearance of Payas Agung Badung. This research is a qualitative study using aesthetic theory. The primary data was obtained from the jewelry used at Payas Agung Badung in the period from 1930 to 1970. The secondary data were photographs belonging to the Puri Anom family in Denpasar. The results showed that the beauty of jewelry at Payas Agung Badung comes from intrinsic values, such as raw materials and motifs, as well as extrinsic values, such as the pakem (aesthetic principles) and deep meaning of the jewelry.","PeriodicalId":320633,"journal":{"name":"Lekesan: Interdisciplinary Journal of Asia Pacific Arts","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130131025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The original title of this Ph.D final performance dissertation in local language is “Tari We Beji Langon” (literary means the Dance of Aqua Culture and Religion), presented in a newly chorepgraphed dance composition integrating dance, narration, song, and gamelan music. It is designed as a site specific choreography, inspired by the significant values of water surrounding the Beji Langon water spring. Located in Kapal Village, Mengwi District, Badung Regency, this water spring is still preserved by the local community as holy hydrospherec resorces. Choreographed and performed surrounding this natural environment instead of in a conventional theatre, the dance portrays elevating aqua culture in upgrading level of human purposes. The dacers start from the river where water employed in profane daily life, then they move to the outpouring water for various Hindu ritual ceremonies, until finally recounting holy water as tirtha from spring water for spiritual purification. This dance depicts ascending realms of profane-ordinary-sacred water according to the use of water in various aspects of Balinese Hindu community as often mentioned in Balinese lontar manuscripts. This choreography is the result of exploration on aqua culture among Balinese people who have recently begun to experience abrasion. Based on practice-based research this dance aims to convey the values of local Balinese wisdom regarding the essential role of water in the sociocultural and religious life of the Hindu Bali community. The performance of this dance is expected to reinforce the awareness and enlightenment of the local people around the location of the Beji Langon bathing area to always maintain the cleanliness and purity of the water and to preserve its surrounding environment.","PeriodicalId":320633,"journal":{"name":"Lekesan: Interdisciplinary Journal of Asia Pacific Arts","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129517582","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is no longer a confusion between what is reality and what is hyperreality for them. Meme is a digital design object that was born from the development of cyber power and has a message content in fulfilling the purpose of communicating, interacting socially through social media or social networks and digital culture. The message is composed of a network of signs that have a mechanism in it to produce meaning. Today, many memes have gone viral among the consumer masses, one of which is the meme Khong Guan biscuit. However, the phenomenon of the ‘hyper’ signs mechanism has not yet been written scientifically by researchers. In fact, the meme Khong Guan has a network of ‘hyper’ signs which from the beginning until now has moved dynamically and has succeeded in stealing the spotlight of the masses of Indonesian consumers. Therefore, hypersemiotics as a theory of ‘hyper’ signs and the results of criticism of conventional semiotics (especially structural semiotics which is closely related to structuralism) can be used as an approach to find out the movement of the ‘hyper’ sign elements in Khong Guan meme which is engaged in finding new codes and generate dynamic meaning.","PeriodicalId":320633,"journal":{"name":"Lekesan: Interdisciplinary Journal of Asia Pacific Arts","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121690254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tourism industry is one of the globalizations which produces cultural things to be commercialized financially and purposefully. One of cultural things to be commercialized in the era of globalization is traditional art. The issue coming up is how to develop patterns so that the supporters of traditional art as the subject of local wisdom are maintained, but hopefully it can, on the other hand, accommodate globalization demands, for both economic and sociocultural aspects which have commodified culture? With the aim of synergizing the existence of traditional art as cultural identity of supporters in sociocultural way and the demands of tourism industry that commodify culture, through field research using qualitative method, it can be concluded that. First, commodification of culture is inevitable in the era of 4.0 which develops in modernity, which can be seen from more developed tourism industry. Second, commodification of culture toward local wisdom can actually be solved with some strategies without marginalizing the supporters of the local wisdom and culture. Third, the space of traditional art as cultural identity can be maintained and revitalized from commodification of culture as long as the conceptual pattern can synergize the perception and responses of the supporters with the demands of tourism industry. Forth, one of the most relevant concept to accommodate the demands of commodification of culture is what is known as pseudo traditional art.","PeriodicalId":320633,"journal":{"name":"Lekesan: Interdisciplinary Journal of Asia Pacific Arts","volume":"177 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127290700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The author would like to re-introduce the existence of Kendalisada Temple to modern society today by designing a wedding jewelry set product inspired by the reliefs of Kendalisada Temple which tells the story of Prince Panji and Dewi Sekartaji who are sitting intimately, then the prince plays the Vina musical instrument to entertain his lover, where for the surroundings there are natural landscapes such as mountains and water. In the design process, the author used a qualitative method in the form of a literature study which includes searching for data through books, electronic sources, and related journals about Kendalisada Temple, Kendalisada Temple reliefs, Vina musical instruments, types of jewelry, jewelry materials, wedding jewelry, jewelry making techniques, markets. research, and trend forecasting. The author also used the cultural design method to transfer the culture in the relief into a product. The design process used 4 stages, namely investigation, interaction, script development, and product design. After that, the author made some ornaments and then developed more.
