Common RRM (CRRM) is proposed to jointly manage radio resources among different radio access technologies (RATs) in an optimized way. This paper does a comprehensive survey on CRRM and introduces it from different aspects. Two interaction functions (information reporting function and RRM decision support function) and four interaction degrees (from low to very high) between local RRM and CRRM entities are introduced. Possible CRRM topologies (CRRM server, integrated CRRM and CRRM in user terminals) are introduced. Different RAT selection algorithms for both of mixed GREAN/UTRAN and WWAN/WLAN scenarios are compared. Future research works on CRRM is also considered in the conclusion section.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129174192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The voltage references in DAC circuit are obtained by piecewise constant approximation of the pulses. Experimental results with HSPICE using a 0.18 mum CMOS technology with 1.8 V power supply are given for modulated Gaussian pulses with 4 and 8 GHz center frequencies, which resemble 4 and 6 order derivative of the Gaussian pulse. The power consumptions are, respectively, 0.82 mW and 1.26 mW for the main circuit in low and high UWB bands. Since the circuit structure is simple, both the power consumption and the area are relatively much lower than the existing pulse generators. Also, generating sub-nanosecond signals for high UWB band is due to simplicity of the circuit, which otherwise would require a CMOS technology with finer feature size.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"237 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128381888","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also for a specific service, different levels of quality could be offered depending on the client profile and on the momentary network capacities, giving the possibility of creating tiered access to resources. In order to enhance the network usability to these new conditions we propose an optimized, network driven QoS management and provisioning model. It is also considering a localization mechanism, doubled by a QoS control of the access networks. This paper focuses on a single operator scenario, which deploys multiple access technologies using an IMS signaled 3GPP System Architecture Evolution.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123851563","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most train accidents can be attributed to fatigue, and hence, development of fatigue countermeasure devices that can warn drivers of fatigue status and prevent accidents can greatly benefit train drivers, passengers, society and general community. Electroencephalography (EEG) has been proven to be one of the most reliable indicators of fatigue. This study investigated the change of brain activity during fatigue-instigating monotonous driving session, by extracting the four frequency components (delta, theta, alpha, and beta) using FFT spectral analysis at different brain sites (frontal, central, temporal, parietal, and occipital). Results identified some statistically significant differences between early and later stages of driving in delta, theta and beta activities at different brain sites. The results of the current study may be used for future development of fatigue countermeasure by targeting specific frequency component and brain sites.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121268245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This motivates research to develop transceiver-on-chip and transceiver-in-a-package technologies. Recent advances in millimetre wave electronics have meant that significant portions of the system can now be integrated onto a single substrate or package. In order to achieve low costs and high digital integration CMOS is the process of choice as CMOS is the standard and a cost effective process for building digital circuits. Unfortunately compared to other much more expensive processes such as SiGe and GaAs, CMOS has greater process variability, lower carrier mobility constants, and smaller device breakdown voltages. This makes millimetre wave wireless transceiver on a chip design particularly challenging. In this paper we outline the development of a gigabit transceiver-on-chip using CMOS and outline the performance of the fabricated components.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128405192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"A Generic Communication Architecture for End to End Mobility Management in the Internet","authors":"Lei Zhang, P. Sénac, M. The increasingly dense set of wireless access networks that can be potentially accessed by mobile users open the door to an era of pervasive computing. However, the puzzle of wireless access networks that tends to become the natural access networks to the Internet pushes legacy \"wire- oriented\" communication architectures to their limit. Indeed, there is a critical gap between the increasingly used stream centric multimedia applications and the incapacity of legacy communication stacks to insure the continuity of these multimedia sessions for mobile users. This paper proposes a generic communication architecture (i.e. not dedicated to a specific protocol or technology) that aims to fill the gap between the application layer continuity needs and the discontinuity of the communication service inherent to the physical layer of wireless mobile networks. This paper introduces an end to end communication architecture that preserves efficiently session continuity in the context of mobile and wireless networks. This architecture is mainly based on end to end mechanisms that could be integrated into a new generation reconfigurable transport protocol. The proposed contribution efficiently satisfies mobility requirements such as efficient location management, fast handover, and continuous connection support.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116039266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It operates without the use of existing infrastructure. One of the principal routing protocols used in ad-hoc networks is AODV (ad-hoc on demand distance vector) protocol. The security of the AODV protocol is compromised by a particular type of attack called 'black hole' attack. In this attack a malicious node advertises itself as having the shortest path to the node whose packets it wants to intercept. To reduce the probability it is proposed to wait and check the replies from all the neighboring nodes to find a safe route. Computer simulation using glomosim shows that our protocol provides better performance than the conventional AODV in the presence of Black holes with minimal additional delay and Overhead.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115816703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper provides an analysis of range extension and channel capacity increase in such networks when multi-hop communication is adopted for ultra wideband (UWB) communications. Received signal to noise ratio is used with multi-hopping to analyse range extension. Since the received signal levels for each short hop is higher compared with longer hops, the Shannon channel capacity for the short hops are equally higher leading to increased total channel capacity in multi-hop situations. Therefore cheaper and low powered transmitters can be used in the multi-hop scenario. The smaller transceivers also produce less interferences compared to the larger transceivers although it remains to be demonstrated if the total sum of the interference generated by the smaller transmitters is of the same order as that generated by the fewer but bigger transceivers.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124701547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All make assumptions that nodes in the network will operate for the common good without any self- interests. However, most nodes in peer-to-peer networks act selfishly in the reality, which makes the \"doing-the-common-good\" assumption invalid. One of the major challenges in peer-to-peer networks is how to manage self-interest to encourage nodes to follow the designed protocols. In this paper, we propose an incentive based routing algorithm for improving message forwarding in structured peer-to-peer networks. Using a parameter, called Participation Willingness (PW), we are able to introduce incentives for all network nodes. Furthermore, we apply the PW value to the routing algorithm of Chord and perform a simulation study. Simulation results showed that the proposed algorithm provides performance improvement over the original Chord routing algorithm.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134375504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A Virtual Ad Hoc Routing Algorithm for MANETs 一种面向manet的虚拟自组织路由算法

{"title":"A Virtual Ad Hoc Routing Algorithm for MANETs","authors":"M. Velempini, M. In addition to the longstanding problems of wireless systems such as overhead costs, bandwidth scarcity, overloading and link degradation, MANETs have to grapple with routing protocols, caching protocols and energy conversion algorithms, along with the associated trade-offs. Node mobility creates high overheads with frequent routing protocols rapidly depleting battery energy. There is a need to develop energy aware and efficient routing protocols that still respond sensitively to node mobility. In this paper we float the concept of a virtual multi- hop ad hoc routing algorithm for MANETs. The concept clearly indicates a niche area for further research into increasing energy conservation without sacrificing performance, careful section of casting methods, and efficient use of bandwidth.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116367561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
