We consider adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) as a practical technique in achieving the full multiplexing gain of MIMO systems. The multiplexing gain of AMC MIMO systems is analyzed quantitatively, and a practical way of predicting the multiplexing gain of a generic AMC MIMO system is presented.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114644033","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They commonly offer only simple radio propagation models that neglect obstacles of a propagation environment. The radio wave propagation model has a strong impact on the results of the simulation run. This work shows different radio propagation models into a simulation tool. The model is based on data of the simulation area in urban area. Consequently, we obtain different performance evaluation results. Preceding at the transmitter reduces interference between users allowing independent data streams to be sent to multiple users simultaneously. With typically more users than transmit antennas, efficient selection of user subsets is important. The paper compares the effectiveness of several user selection algorithms and identifies situations where they are suboptimal. The impact of zero-forcing (ZF) and dirty paper coding (DPC) precoding are considered. A modification to two current algorithms is proposed that reduces computational time while retaining effectiveness. Simulation is used to assess the modifications and suggest methods of setting parameters. The paper examines the variability of allocated data rates and shows how it affects the performance of weighted alpha rule schedulers, which trade-off efficiency with fairness. It is shown that reducing the variability of allocated rates can have a significant reduction on mean scheduler queue sizes.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125307154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This receiver has the capacity to suppress the ISI (inter symbol interference) and combat multipath fading experiencing in both static and dynamic multipath environment. This paper emphasizes the importance of spread spectrum technique (CDMA) and the adaptive algorithms and its performance comparisons. The main objective of this paper is to implement, analyze and compare different FIR based adaptive algorithms like NLMS, DRLMS with respect to SWLMS for ISI equalization. The bit- error rate and the output SNR will be considered as the main performance criteria. Attention will be also given to the computational complexity of the implemented algorithms.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122584592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a modification to existing analytical models we show how our new results solve previously reported dicrepancies between analytical throughput predictions and measured throughputs. We investigate the performance of saturated 802.11 g networks as a function of various 802.11g PHY parameters, including the transmission rate of ACKframes, the slot size, the use of EIFS (extended inter-frame spacing) and the total PCLP (physical convergence layer protocol) overhead. We also investigate the throughput performance as a function of important MAC layer parameters. An interesting result we find is the how the predicted throughput depends on the Contention Window value and the number of stations. The results reported here will be of value to the ongoing study of multimedia application deployments over high PHY data rate 802.11 g networks.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129576283","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While modern day computing capabilities allow drilling through megabytes of information, it is not always the most cost- effective solution. The other alternative is the use of smart sensors, whereby each node is capable of routing data to any destination using a HTTP server. This not only escalates the cost of each node but also imposes severe strain on the network - thus necessitating developers and architects to evaluate the impact of swarming and \"lazy routing\". The notion of the proposed middleware solution (MAGNA) is to bring about context-based processing and intelligent data capture and/or filter right up to the sensor nodes through the use of powerful \"sub-net\" controllers. The paper will explore the application of MAGNA as a platform capable of offering ambient intelligence in a typical sensor network environment, integrating everyday appliances and our life-style together. In doing so, two primary methodologies will be discussed on which MAGNA is essentially based, namely the soft systems methodology and the banking model approach.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124139730","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The changes of operating conditions in power systems also adversely affect the installed relays. There is a strong requirement to avoid protection relay maloperation and to ensure continuing optimal relay coordination and operation. It is rather difficult to determine which of the protective relays will operate as specified or whether the coordination of the relays is maintained due to complexity of the system. This paper introduces a reliable and secure interactive framework system for investigation, calculation of relay settings and relay coordination using wavelet based techniques. The interactive system allows an engineer in the control room to assign the location, the type of fault and the relay data set pattern; then the operating time of the protective devices is generated. The system framework introduces a dynamic, interactive transient of the relay models for the power system.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127887935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
