The conventional power control in UMTS is a fixed stepsize algorithm which can achieve only limited performance. A number of advanced power control techniques have been presented in the literature. However, it is difficult to compare the performance of algorithms from different literature because they were evaluated based on different simulation environments and assumptions. In this paper, performance of a number of adaptive power control algorithm is compared under the same simulation environment and assumptions. The simulation results show that AS-CLPC provides the best performance for low-speed users, and SA-CLPC provides the best performance for high-speed users.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131088850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we evaluate and compare the achievable range-data rate performance of a reliable UWB communication link for long ranges, considering an Impulse Radio UWB system and the use of M-ary PAM and M-ary PPM modulations. The free space, lognormal shadowing and two-ray path loss models are considered. We incorporate the UWB frequency dependency of two different ground reflection materials as well as different electric field polarizations in the two-ray path loss model. Tables with the achievable range-data rate performance of the UWB link are provided. Novel results of this research work indicate that, complying with the FCC emission limits, a reliable outdoor UWB link can be established by compromising between range and speed of transmission.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114802159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present work, at first, a theoretical introductory to summarize the subject of FH technique, slow frequency hopping (SFH) as well as fast frequency hopping (FFH) is given. Fast frequency hopping will be considered rather than SFH because its performance is significantly better . The frequency hopping procedure will be carried out pseudo randomly according to the Gamma random distribution which is proved here to have better correlation properties. Expectation of the hit probability of the used FH sequences of the radar signal, as well as the range ambiguity function, will be calculated and evaluated as a measure of the system performance. The simulation output has proved that the FFH radar system can achieve a nearby ideal performance.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114825617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A car simulator study was designed to collect physiological data for validation of this technology. Methodology for analysis of physiological data, independent assessment of driver drowsiness and development of drowsiness detection algorithm by means of sequential fitting and selection of regression models is presented. Statistical analysis shows that during the episodes of transitions to dangerous levels of drowsiness movement variations recorded by the seat sensors are decreasing. This finding indicates that the piezofilm movement sensors could be used as noninvasive devices for detecting the level of drowsiness on their own or in combination with other physiological signals.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121900373","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multicasting refers to the ability to send information to several receivers at the same time. IP multicast and overlay multicast are two well known approaches that provide multicast services. Several limitations found in IP multicast are addressed in overlay multicast. However, implementation of multicast on MPLS still suffers from IP multicast limitations. This paper proposes a new protocol: the overlay multicast protocol (OMP), in which the overlay approach is applied on MPLS networks to improve the scalability of multicasting. The detailed operations of OMP are explained and a simulation study is presented. The results show the improvement in performance when using OMP.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"371 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124646475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a generic self-organisation algorithm that addresses the two key challenges of scalability and stability in a WMN. The basic approach is that of a distributed, light-weight, co-operative multiagent system that guarantees scalability. The usefulness of our algorithm is exhibited by the performance evaluation results that are presented for different MR-WMN node densities and typical topologies. In addition, our work complements the Task Group 802.11s extended service set (ESS) mesh networking project work that is in progress.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"18 9","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114106734","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work is continued on the rotation spreading matrix and this paper presents another method to expand the rotation spreading matrix based on complete complementary sets of sequences which the authors have shown to have excellent properties in higher order matrices.
