Vygotsky’s ideas to the cross-cultural area of science, the authors summarize the contexts and positions regarding the contribution of the Russian psychological school to the substantiation of musical therapeutic theory and practice. The analysis by Dr. Mastnak of European and American academic periodicals in psychology and music therapy showed that Western science does not have access to all of the content and achievements of Russian and Russian-language psychology. Reading Vygotsky’s works from a musical therapeutic perspective and, in addition, in a cross-cultural interpretation, the authors discuss the abundance of the psychological scientist’s methodological ideas that could provide a theoretical substantiation of effective music therapy.","PeriodicalId":308330,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Russian & East European Psychology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133282710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It examines in detail the early psychoanalytic approaches of S. Ferenczi and O. Rank and their possible influence on C. Rogers’s laying the groundwork for the role of empathy. For the first time in Russian psychology, the article illuminates certain aspects of the biographies of Rogers and H. Kohut as the founders of new schools in psychotherapy, of which empathy is the paramount feature. Kohut’s self-psychology is analyzed from the standpoint of his postulation of the “threefold” status of empathy as a method of psychology, a tool of the analyst, and the subject of a universal requirement of development. It briefly considers the development of the views of Rogers and Kohut in the latest “experiential” schools in the person-centered approach and intersubjective psychoanalysis.","PeriodicalId":308330,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Russian & East European Psychology","volume":"7 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120837076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It analyzes the structure of an empathic ability as consisting of functional, operational, and motivational components. The model is used as a basis for considering techniques and methods of developing empathy. Davis, which is widely used in foreign psychology and is recognized by researchers as the most valid and reliable one. Based on an analysis of the psychodiagnostic tools for studying empathy that are available in foreign and Russian psychology, the conclusion is drawn that the Multifactor approach to measuring empathy formulated by David is the one most consistent with current concepts of the structure of empathy. The article describes in detail the procedure of the adaptation and verification of the reliability and construct validity of the test, and presents the results of the studies that were conducted by using it.","PeriodicalId":308330,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Russian & East European Psychology","volume":"123 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122944063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I will proceed from the one that E.V. Il’enkov proposed (1991) (I am paraphrasing and will be so bold as to add a little bit, while keeping the meaning intact). Culture is that which people create for one another, and hence unifies them in space and time. That which has a meaning for them, making them care about one another, even if they not only are unacquainted, but do not have an inkling of one another’s existence. People who use a spoon, fork, and knife and can no longer take in food any differently are a “single circle” of people, even if they are infinitely different from one another. I once had an amusing situation in Japan. I sat down at a computer with the Japanese version of Word and boldly clicked through the menu, in which everything was in hieroglyphics. My Japanese colleagues joked: “How well you know Japanese!” Word, after all, is also a kind of variety of the “Esperanto of culture.”... All this is of extraordinary interest to small children. The French anthropologist Lucien Lévy-Bruhl [not cited in the original.–Ed.] studied this phenomenon in the 1910s and 1920s from material related to the primitive mentality as one of its characteristic trait. Approximately at the same time the Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget [not cited in the original.–Ed.] discovered this trait in the mentality of preschoolers. Both primitive people and children are convinced that everything around people has been created by the will and plan of some anonymous maker. They assess any fact as an “artifact”: they perceive that which is natural and not man-made as artificial and man-made. Science refers to this phenomenon by the term “artificialism.” However, the phenomenon itself is well known to everyone who continually communicates with preschool children... Stars are not only glued to the sky, but are also lit on fire.
