The variables to be considered are Press club and Literary and debating society, the involvement period, and their academic achievement. Eight out of 17 secondary schools are randomly selected with one hundred students from each school. The questionnaires for the data collection are on students’ personal data and twelve questions on press club and literary and debating society. The mock examination results show that there is a positive significant influence in co-curricular activities on senior secondary school students’ academic achievement in English. Key Words : co-curricular activities, academic achievement, english language teaching Abstrak : Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh kegiatan ko-kurikuler terhadap prestasi Siswa pada Sekolah Menengah Atas di Nigeria. Variabel yang harus dipertimbangkan adalah klub pers dan sastra dan himpunan debat, pada periode keterlibatan, dan prestasi akademik . Delapan dari 17 sekolah menengah yang dipilih secara acak dengan seratus siswa dari masing-masing sekolah. Kuesioner untuk pengumpulan data adalah data pribadi siswa dan dua belas pertanyaan tentang klub Pers dan Sastra dan himpunan debat. Hasil test buatan menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh positif yang signifikan dalam kegiatan ko-kurikuler terhadap prestasi akademik siswa sekolah menengah atas dalam pelajaran bahasa Inggris. The reality of pela tradition value order has been processing in institutionalized as the education direction of social values. The purpose of this qualitative research is to describe the values in the tradition of pela for educational value in Ambon community. The Exposure to the data, data explanation and understanding of discourse data tradition of pela is done in depth. The Study of pela discourse tradition with hermeneutics gives holistic-emic views of how the tradition of pela is able to package and legitimize the Ambonese community life philosophy. The results of the study describes the values in the tradition of pela include (1) the value of religion that regulates the dimensions of God in human life, (2) the value of the philosophy that is universal and will be impacted by the ending value and subjectivity, and (3) the value of ethical consequences of individual responsibility in achieving a moral obligation. Key Words : value education, culture, pela tradition Abstrak : Nilai yang memiliki arti dalam tradisi pela masyarakat Ambon adalah sesuatu yang telah diberikan sejak turun temurun secara pribadi dan dapat diinternalisasi dalam perilaku manusia. Pada kenyataannya, nilai pada tradisi pela telah dilembagakan menjadi arahan dalam pendidikan nilai-nilai sosial. Tujuan penelitian kualitatif ini adalah menggambarkan nilai-nilai yang terkandung dalam tradisi pela sebagai pendidikan nilai masyarakat Ambon. Paparan data, cara penjelasan data, dan pemahaman data wacana tradisi pela dilakukan secara mendalam. Kajian wacana tradisi pela dengan ancangan hermeneutika memberikan gambaran holistik-emik tentang bagaimana tradisi pela mampu mengemas dan melegitimasi falsafah hidup komunitas masyarakat Ambon. Hasil penelitian memaparkan nilai-nilai dalam tradisi pela meliputi (1) nilai agama yang mengatur dimensi tuhan dalam kehidupan manusia, (2) nilai filosofi yang memiliki universal dan akan terpengaruh berakhir nilai dan subjektif, dan (3) nilai etika yang memiliki konsekuensi tanggung jawab individu dalam mencapai kewajiban moral. The study employed descriptive cross-sectional quantitative research design. The subjects of this study were students from grade X, XI, and XII of SMAN 2 Lamongan. The main instruments of the study were the writing prompt and narrative guidelines. The students’ writings were scored based on the scoring scale adapted from Cohen and Coffin, et.al; Hyland. The findings showed that the students made errors in moral value, content, organization, grammar, and vocabulary. Grammar is a dominant error because it is found in each grade and each program. The most dominant error in grammar was simple past tense. Key Words : error, narrative writing Abstrak : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan kesalahan dalam menulis teks naratif yang dibuat oleh siswa SMAN 2 Lamongan. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian cross-sectional kuantitatif deskriptif. Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa dari kelas X, XI, dan XII SMAN 2 Lamongan. Instrumen utama dari penelitian ini adalah writing prompt dan narrative guidelines. Tulisan-tulisan siswa dinilai berdasarkan skala penilaian yang diadaptasi dari Cohen dan Coffin, dkk.; Hyland. Te-muan menunjukkan bahwa siswa membuat kesalahan pada nilai moral, isi, organisasi, tata bahasa, dan kosa kata. Tata bahasa merupakan kesalahan yang paling dominan karena ditemukan di setiap kelas dan setiap program. Kesalahan yang paling dominan dalam tata bahasa adalah kesalahan ben-tuk simple past tense. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest and nonrandomized control group design was used. The subjects were 38 fourth semester students in English Department of Universitas Negeri Malang.The experimental group was treated by using Toulmin’s model of argumentation within TWPS strategy while the control group was treated without TWPS strategy. Students’ critical thinking ability was measured by using argumentative essay test. ANCOVA was used to test the hypotheses. Findings showed there was not significant difference on the students’ critical thinking ability. However, Toulmin’s model of argumentation within TWPS strategy proved to improve the students’ critical thinking as shown by the improvement of the experimental group’s mean score. Key Words : critical thinking, Toulmin’s model of argumentation, argumentative essay, Think-Write-Pair-Share strategy Abstrak : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki efektivitas model argumentasi Toulmin dalam strategi TWPS pada kemampuan berpikir kritis esai argumentative mahasiswa. Desain kuasi-eksperi-mental digunakan dengan pretest-posttest dan nonrandomized control group. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah 38 mahasiswa semester IV di Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Negeri Malang. Kelompok eksperimen diteliti dengan menggunakan model argumentasi dalam strategi TWPS sedangkan kelom-pok kontrol diteliti tanpa strategi TWPS. Kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa diukur dengan menggunakan uji esai argumentatif. ANCOVA digunakan untuk menguji hipotesis. Temuan menunjukkan tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Namun, model argumentasi Toulmin dalam strategi TWPS terbukti meningkatkan berpikir kritis siswa seperti yang ditunjukkan oleh nilai rata-rata. Data penelitian yaitu berupa hasil wawancara dan pengamatan mengenai manajamen pemberdayaan sumber belajar dalam meningkatkan mutu pembelajaran sains. Analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik analisis model interaktif yang dikembangkan oleh Miles dan Huberman yang terdiri dari reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Simpulan hasil penelitian adalah sebagai berikut. (1) Perencanaan sumber belajar dalam meningkatkan mutu pembelajaran sains di sekolah Sassanasuksa Thailand. (2) Dalam proses pelaksanaan (actuating) pemberdayaan sumberbelajar dalam meningkatkan mutu pembelajaran sains di Sekolah Satsanasuksa bertujuan untuk memberikan jaminan bahwa aktivitas operasional sekolah telah sesuai dengan tujuan untuk menunjang pelaksanaan peningkatan mutu pembelajaran disekolah. (3) Evaluasi pemberdayaan sumber belajar dalam meningkatkan mutu pembelajaran sains di sekolah Sassanasuksa Thailand, (4) Peningkatan dan pengembangan hasil sumber belajar dalam meningkatkan mutu pembelajaran sains yang merujuk pada konsep peningkatan sumber belajar. This research used a qualitative approach with a case-study design. Data collection techniques which were applied are: (1) in-depth interview, (2) ob-servation, and (3) documentation. The results of this study are presented as followings. (1) Factors needed by principal to influence teacher discipline effectively are: a) education background, b) work experience, c) a positive model, d) awareness of the role and responsibility as a school leader, e) professional character. (2) Techniques used by headmaster to apply teacher discipline are: a) reminding, b) discussion, c) meeting, d) evaluation, e) communication f) the letter, and g) the reward and punish-ment. (3) The process of teacher motivation in improving the discipline are: a) good involvement and communication, b) training programs, c) accepting suggestions/discussion, d) the outbound activity, e) getting involved with all school activities, f) celebrating all special holiday, both national and religious holidays, g) staff promotion, and i) the bonus salary. (4) the reward and punishment sys-tems applied by the principal to improvee teacher discipline are: a) appraisals, b) a prize and a cer-tificate of appreciation, c) bonus salary, d) discussion about the problem, warning letters, and dismissing letter, and e) salary suspension and salary decreases. Subjek penelitian adalah 96 mahasiswa Teknik Sipil dan Mesin Politeknik Negeri Ambon tahun akademik 2011-2012. Desain eksperimen menggunakan kuasi versi factorial (2 x 2 x 2) pre test-post test non-equivalent control group design. Analisis data menggunakan statistik Three Ways ANOVA. Pengujian hipotesis dilakukan pada taraf signifikansi 5% atau a=0,5 menggunakan SPSS 17.0 for windows. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa (1) Ada perbedaan yang signifikan hasil belajar antara kelompok strategi SQ4R tipe bantuan multimedia dan buku teks, (2) ada perbedaan yang signifikan hasil belajar antara kelompok pengetahuan awal tinggi dan rendah, (3) tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara pembelajar diverger dan assimilator, (4) tidak ada pengaruh interaksi antara strategi SQ4R tipe bantuan dengan pengetahuan awal terhadap hasil belajar, (5) tidak ada pengaruh interaksi antara strategi SQ4R tipe bantuan dengan gaya belajar terhadap hasil belajar, (6) ada pengaruh interaksi an-tara pengetahuan awal dengan gaya belajar terhadap hasil belajar, dan, (7) ada pengaruh interaksi antara strategi SQ4R tipe bantuan, pengetahuan awal dan gaya belajar terhadap hasil belajar. Penelitian ini meng-gunakan pendekatan kualitatif fenomenologi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pengelolaan keuangan bagi mahasiswa adalah (1) penting karena diperlukan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari untuk dapat menyeimbangkan pemasukan dan pengeluaran agar sesuai dengan kebutuhan mahasiswa se-makin lama semakin banyak, serta dapat digunakan bekal untuk menjadi wirausaha. The result of the preliminary study showed that there was only small portion of writing activities in the existing textbook. As a result, students got many difficulties in writing skills. The research and development (R&D) procedure was employed in this study. The design used in developing the workbook was the adaptation model of development by Borg and Gall (1983). The procedures employed in this study were needs analysis, instructional goal, material de-velopment, expert validation, try-out, and final product. The information from teachers and students in needs analysis served as a basis for developing the materials. To evaluate the developed materials, expert validation by a material development expert and a subject matter expert was carried out. The information from the experts was used to improve the quality of the materials. After trying out the ma-terials, the teacher was given observation form and the students were given checklists to examine the acceptability and the utility of the product in the field. Based on the result of the data analysis, it can be concluded that the developed materials were categorized good and can be used as supplemen-tary writing materials for the eighth graders of SMPN 3 Jember. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan rancangan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK), bersifat kolaborasi. Data penelitian ini diambil dari 27 siswa SD Plus Al-Anwar Pacul Gowang Jombang. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan media BCB dan PB dapat meningkatkan proses: respon, antusiasme, keaktifan, dan kerjasama; dan hasil minat dan kemampuan membaca permulaan: membaca kata, membaca kalimat, dan menyebutkan isi BCB. Penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa penerapan media BCB dan PB dapat meningkatkan proses dan hasil minat dan kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa kelas II SD Plus Al-Anwar Pacul Gowang Jombang.
