The purpose of this study was to find out: (1) Is the increase in mathematical critical thinking abilities of students given the guided discovery method assisted by Geogebra software higher than students who were given guided discovery method learning without Geogebra software, (2) Are their interactions between learning with students 'initial mathematical abilities towards improving students' critical thinking skills. This research is a quasi-experimental study. The population of this study is that all classes in the fourth-semester mathematics education study program are approximately 120 people. Randomly, two classes were chosen from four classes. The experimental class was treated with Geogebra assisted guided discovery methods and the control class was treated with a guided discovery method without the help of Geogebra. Data analysis was performed by analysis of two-way variance (ANAVA). The results showed (1) Improvement of mathematical critical thinking skills of groups of students who obtained guided discovery method learning using GeoGebra software was higher than the group of students who received learning through guided discovery methods without GeoGebra software. The research objectives are: (1) Knowing whether the approach to the mathematical investigation can improve the ability to solve open mathematical problems; (2) Knowing how the level of activity of students and lecturers in learning through a mathematical investigation approach. This type of research is Class Action Research. The research subjects were Students of Mathematics Education FKIP UMSU Academic Year 2018/2019. The object of research is the ability of lecturers to manage student learning and activities in the implementation of learning and the ability of students to solve open mathematical problems through an investigative approach to material numbers. The results of the study show that (1) The approach to the mathematical investigation can improve students' mathematical problem-solving abilities; (2) The approach to the mathematical investigation can increase the level of student activity. From the results of the initial test the ability to solve open mathematical problems an average value of 3.17, the average value of student cycle I tests is 10.73 (56.66%) students who have the ability to solve open mathematical problems and average test scores the second cycle was 12 (83.33%) students who had the ability to solve open mathematical problems. The type of research used is classroom action research with 2 cycles. Subjects of class X-IPA 7. On the implementation of the first cycle of action, the result of the analysis of tests of students at the moderate (≥ 65) category in a classical manner were still not achived because only 52.78% of students were completed, with a grade average 65.00. After the implementation of the second cycle of action, the learning outcomes of students in the medium minimum category (≥ 65) have been achived classically, namely 86.11% with an average value 73.75. The increase in students’ mathematics learning outcomes from cycle I to cycle II was 21.11%. This study aims to (1) improve students' mathematical communication skills through the STAD Type Cooperative Learning Model with the Reciprocal Teaching Approach in MTs Islamiyah Medan, (2) describe the process of implementing the STAD Type Cooperative Learning Model with the Reciprocal Teaching Approach at MTs Islamiyah Medan. This research is a class action research with 31 students of VII-2 MTs Islamiyah Medan subject. Instruments used include learning implementation observation sheets, mathematical communication observation sheets, and mathematical communication test questions. Implementation of the STAD Cooperative Learning Model with the Reciprocal Teaching Approach includes: (1) Initial Activities: the teacher conveys apperception and motivation regarding the material to be studied; (2) this activity: group work which includes Clarifying discussion, Predicting discussion Questioning discussion, Summarizing discussion, discussion of LKS questions, and group percentage; (3) Closing: the teacher together with students draw conclusions on the material that has been learned. After learning takes place there is an increase in students' mathematical communication skills. This can be seen from the results of observations of the implementation of learning an increase in the percentage from cycle I to cycle II amounted to 90.90% to 94.45% with a very good category of accuracy. Furthermore, the results of observations of students' mathematical abilities also increased from cycle I by 75.00% (good category) to 82.41% (good category) in the second cycle. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of learning by using a realistic mathematical approach to the ability to understand students' mathematical concepts. This research is a quasi-experimental research. This research was conducted at MTs Islamiyah Medan. The research sample consisted of 50 students, 25 experimental class students, and 25 control class students obtained by cluster random sampling technique in class VII students. The results of the study explained that the average ability to understand mathematical concepts of students who use a realistic mathematical approach is higher than the average ability to understand mathematical concepts of students who use conventional learning. It can be seen from the average posttest score of students' mathematical problem-solving ability of 29.125 in the experimental class and 27.250 in the control class. However, the realistic mathematical approach model in the experimental class was significantly more successful in improving students' understanding of mathematical concept skills compared to conventional methods. Thus the learning of realistic mathematics influences the ability to understand the concepts of mathematical students (tcount = 3.91> ttable = 2.13). This study aims to determine whether there are differences in mathematical problem solving abilities of students who are taught through an investigative approach and with conventional approaches in class VIII SMP 9 of Pematangsiantar. This type of research is experimental research. The population in this study were all eighth grade students of SMP 9 of Pematangsiantar as many as 8 classes. The problem solving abilities of students taught with an investigative approach to the average pretest of 57.73 and post-test of 85.42, the level of change in problem solving abilities was 27.69. Higher than the problem solving abilities of students who are taught with conventional learning the average pretest is 56.67 and posttest is 72.67. Hypothesis testing, from the calculation of student pretest data obtained at dk = 64 and the real level α = 0.05 and 𝑡(1−12∝)=𝑡0,975 obtained ttable = 1.669 and tcount = 1.172. Because tcount < ttable = (1.172 <1.669) it can be concluded that the initial ability of students is the same. While based on the calculation of student posttest data obtained at dk = 64 and the real level α = 0.05 obtained ttable = 1.669 and t count = 4.212. Because tcount> ttable (4.212 > 1.669) then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. This research is a Classroom Action Research which aims to improve the mathematical reasoning ability of students of class VIII Mts Islamiyah Medan through the Open-Ended approach. The subjects in this study were all students of class VIII-1 MTs Islamiyah Medan, totaling 24 students. This research was conducted in 2 cycles, namely cycle I and II, each of which consisted of two meetings. The instruments used in this study were observation guidelines for implementing learning with the Open-Ended approach, cycle tests to measure students' mathematical reasoning abilities towards learning mathematics with the Open-Ended approach, interview guidelines and documentation. Data from observations, tests, and questionnaires were analyzed quantitatively which was strengthened by the results of interviews and descriptive qualitative documentation. The results showed that the mathematical reasoning ability of students in class VIII-1 MTs Islamiyah Medan increased from cycle I to cycle II after learning was carried out with the Open-Ended approach. This is shown by as many as 20 students or 83.3% experienced an increase in mathematical reasoning ability based on the total score of aspects of mathematical reasoning ability. The average percentage of test scores increased from 66.6% in the first cycle to 83.3% in the second cycle and in the high category. Based on observations of the implementation of learning with the Open-Ended approach is good and in accordance with the characteristics of the Open-Ended Approach. The purpose of this study was to describe students' difficulties in solving problem solving problems in Algebra and Trigonometry courses. Subjects in this study were students of the Mathematics Education Faculty of Unika Santo Thomas Faculty of Teaching and Education study program in North Sumatra in semester 1 of the 2017-2018 school year, totaling 10 people. The data collection tool used in this study was a test of 5 questions in the form of a description. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study. Data collection techniques are carried out by tests, observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques were carried out with the stages of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results showed that students had difficulty using the concept of equality and inequality squared, the use of the concepts of trigonometric formulas. Students also have difficulties in using number sequence principles and completing trigonometric equation solving, difficulties in disclosing information from problem solving and calculation errors.
