While building an IoT system, architects and developers use distributed architectures where the system is a set of interoperated components by connectors. Different limitations incur the development of a connector in IoT devices, i.e., connectivity and internal resources. The reason is that each service needs an exclusive allocation of the device’s storage, memory, and processing power which makes running multiple services on the same device cumbersome. In this research, we design a generic \"Software Connector\" that aims to optimize the use of the device’s resources. The proposed connector will dynamically allocate and deallocate necessary resources at runtime when receiving a message, and it will adapt its behavior based on a set of attributes obtained from the local database and the incoming messages. The connector improves messages’ reliability by following the broadcast-default function, especially in case of network failure. We applied the proposed approach to an \"Emergency Response System\" with different IoT device types, describing an emergency scenario to validate the proposed approach. More ever, to make the proposed connector more accessible for developers to extend its functionalities and increase the number of supported platforms, we will commit it to an online repository.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124556506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

GSKs facilitate simplified and energy-efficient key management. Moreover, GSKs are suitable for encrypting broadcast control and alert messages. Existing group key generation schemes show many pitfalls, with the majority of them being either computationally inefficient or impractical. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to generating GSKs by exploiting the channel state information (CSI) of spatially correlated IoT nodes. We implement a feedforward neural network (FNN) for identical channel feature generation for the nodes. We then employ a group key generation scheme based on the generated channel features. Results verify the performance of the proposed scheme and demonstrate outstanding performance in the presence of a passive adversary.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114968150","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Preschoolers are in a stage where they are highly active, and making sure that they are immersed in their educational activities is important. However, surveys and studies have shown that many students are not engaged in module-based distance learning methods. Higher engagement has been associated with higher emotional investment and higher chances of receiving positive learning outcomes. The goal of this paper was to develop a web-based storytelling platform, Intellitell, that gathered data on the student’s engagement. The paper assessed a preschooler’s engagement by gathering their emotional response using faceAPI.js during a storytelling activity using emotion match accuracy as a defining metric. The results showed that the emotion match accuracy of the students using the Intellitell webapp was 80.16% for defined data points. Further analysis showed that the ground truth is susceptible to distractions due to the low sample size, and classifying emotions that are similar like surprised and fearful is inconsistent without prior context to stimuli.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116287373","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The nano biosensors comprise of three main elements: the probe, Transducer, and detector, which are interconnected to ensure that all information acquired from the target object is processed and interpreted for further decision-making processes. Population in Abu Dhabi is continuously increasing. That is why there is a dire need for the incorporation of new technological innovations to ensure that the agricultural lands can produce higher yields in order to meet the growing food demand. The applicability of the nanotechnology infrastructure in Abu Dhabi will be assessed through qualitative research, where the researcher will assess diverse literature sources as well as views from target respondents. The research process will also lead to possible limitations that will lead to future research suggestions.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129607084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, there are several ways to represent Knowledge Graphs in general. However, in this work, we extended the implementation of symbolic representation to model domain-oriented temporal Knowledge Graphs. For symbolic representation, we incorporated Horn rules and SWRL (Semantic Web Rule Language). The presented approach is semi-autonomous: (i) we extracted hand-crafted rules and (ii) we utilized the PSyKE (Platform for Symbolic Knowledge Extraction) package to extract some rules automatically from raw data logs. For domain modeling, we targeted a smart industry environment. To validate the proposed model, we conducted a counterfactual study using Knowledge Graph and network analysis for fact-finding and filtering.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130004225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the sensors' lifetime is a significant challenge when the sensors are battery-powered. To reduce energy consumption, this paper presents a novel graphbased sensor selection scheme to select working and sleeping sensors that maximizes the number of sleeping nodes while keeping the accuracy comparable with the state-of-the-art methods using a hierarchical prediction scheme. Moreover, an entropy-aware publishing method is proposed to reduce the edgeto-cloud transmissions to avoid transmitting predictable measurements to the cloud by utilizing the temporal correlation in a sensor measurement. The experimental results showed that the proposed method could surpass the previous approaches by turning off 14% more sensors on average under equal accuracy. Moreover, the entropy-aware publishing method could reach 44% average saving in data transmission.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130073980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These hardware accelerators need to be highly tunable in order to support multiple operation modes for different security applications. In this paper, a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA)-based design and implementation of a tunable Keccak core is presented. The Keccak core’s performance and security parameters are configurable in the sense that bitrate, capacity, and the number of rounds can be user-specified with an extendable output length. Keccak’s sponge construction is exploited to enable different modes of operation. This level of flexibility makes the core a suitable fit for a large range of security requirements and applications. The implemented core can be operated as a sponge-based Pseudo Random Number Generation (PRNG). The design was implemented in VHDL (VHSCI Hardware Description Language) targeting a low-cost IntelFPGA Cyclone-V. The core achieved the following maximum throughput figures of: 11, 8.4, and 5.81Gbps for the three Secure Hash Algorithm-3 (SHA-3) variants 256, 384, and 512-bit respectively, while occupying only 8% of the FPGA’s area. The random sequences generated by the sponge-based PRNG successfully passed the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) test suite. This paper demonstrated respectable area/performance results compared to other studies in literature.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131981021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the nature of the process, it requires an excessive amount of time, clinical experiments, and budget to cover each discovery phase. In this sense, computational drug discovery efforts can shorten the discovery process by providing plausible candidates since many of the attempts fail for several reasons, such as a lack of participants, financial problems, or ineffective results. In this study, the goal is to identify plausible candidate drugs for diseases. To do that, we utilize a personal experience of drugs dataset generated by patients. Beyond the user-generated comments, the users also give a rate between 1 and 10. Since we want to ensure the dataset quality, we first performed sentiment analysis experiments to prove that the reviews/comments are consistent with the given rating score. Then, only the review pairs having an effectiveness rate of 6 or more are selected as pre-filtered drug-disease pairs. We also build a knowledge graph using treatment-related biomedical relations using predications from Semantic Medline Database to identify drug similarities utilizing the Simrank similarity algorithm. As a result, we reported a list of plausible drugs as repurposing/repositioning candidates for further experiments.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116695026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since songs are composed of long-term structures of melody, rhythm, and chord progression, the construction of a good music generation model is challenging. This paper proposes a music generation scheme that uses aligned beats to fuse two segments of music. First, a certain segment in the song is selected as the starting segment of the song. In order to take into account the relationship between notes and the relationship between the whole bar, the music generated by two music generation schemes is used. The two different music segments generated by the two schemes are used to learn the fusing weight of each beat so as to generate new fused melodies with coherence and harmony. The experimental result generated by the model are evaluated using an objective evaluation mechanism. The performance results illustrate that, the proposed scheme outperforms the other music generation schemes in terms of the Pitch Class Consistency (PCC), Note Length Consistency (NLC), Grooving Consistency (GC), and Limited Macroharmony (LM).","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121821949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
