As a result, there has been increasing attention on remaining useful life (RUL) estimation for lithium-ion batteries to predict their failure and ensure their safe operation. However, most research on battery RUL do not test their models to run on low-power edge nodes which are the logical target devices. In this paper, we developed a deep learning-based approach called Edge-Based RUL Estimation (EBRULE). EBRULE performs battery RUL prediction on an edge device. Four deep neural network architectures were trained on two data sets namely the NASA and CALCE datasets, using a GPU, and inference was done on a Raspberry Pi single board computer. The experimental results show that the models were able to make predictions with accuracy of 89% or more within seconds. Our work achieved 0.02-6.81% of RMSE and 0.8-5.67% of MAE. Moreover, the DeTransformer model improves upon the mean absolute error (MAE) and root mean-square error (RMSE) by as much as 71.95% and 77.31% respectively compared to the baseline DeTransformer method while the RNN model shows a reduction in MAE and RMSE by 78.89% and 90.77% respectively compared to the baseline RNN approach.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"7 17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130381353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper suggests an ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with four elements, Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO). Each element contains two ports with dual-polarized patches to boost capacity, lessen the effects of reciprocal coupling, and maintain the right size. A semi-oval geometric design with slots has been placed above the patch of the intended antenna to decrease the effects of mutual coupling. With the help of four integrated elements, eight integrated ports, and a Rogers insulating layer, the CST STUDIO 2019 program simulates a single antenna element and a MIMO antenna in a space of (60.48 × 60.48) mm2. The MIMO antenna bandwidth is 2 GHz, the operational frequency is 8.837 GHz while the return loss is -37 dB in the resonance (7.69-9.71 GHz). The MIMO antennas' diversity gains (DG) were around 10, their gain was appropriate (about 8 dB), and their envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) was under 0.006.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130409544","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods of deployment and management of traditional network devices can become cumbersome and error prone as infrastructure complexity increases. Thus, the need for an easier but highly effective and secured networking approach to confront the growing demands of network environments is necessary. In recent years, software defined networking (SDN) became an effective way that supports the future of networking especially with the introduction of virtualization and cloud computing. The adoption of SDN concepts across different organizations, offers advantages resulting in the reduction of operational cost using simplified software, hardware, and management method. This paper reviews some of the current SDN solutions developed for campus networks, wide area networks (WANs) and datacenters identified by the Gartner Peer Insights reviews. A survey was also conducted to find out how these solutions have been adapted in different organizations.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131772853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The accuracy of the response and its utility for the intended use are often not part of the design. Considering that several database queries are categorical in nature (e.g., label, color, etc.), or discrete numerical data (e.g., ranking, histogram, etc.), or can be quantized to discrete values, the parameters that define the randomized mechanism’s distribution are finite. Thus, it is reasonable to search through numerical optimization for the probability masses that meet the privacy constraints while minimizing the query distortion. Considering the modulo summation of random noise as the probabilistic DP mechanism, the goal of this paper is to introduce a tractable framework to design the optimum noise probability mass function (PMF) for database queries with a discrete and finite set, optimizing with an expected distortion metric for a given privacy requirement. This paper shows that the optimum PMF can be obtained by solving a mixed integer linear program (MILP) and that the proposed optimal mechanism significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130276740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The reason to this crisis is due to the South Africa's state owned electricity utility, which is facing a relatively close hurricane of an increasing energy supply shortage, compounded by Eskom's declining generation due to more unsustainable ageing power stations, leading to spiking electricity bills. These factors are causing havoc on the economy. With the country recovering from a COVID-induced economic downturn during the last Three years. The harsh truth of the situation is disturbing, with roughly weekly power outages. The key questions must be addressed: What has been done to remedy this situation? how can the government speed up the reform of the electricity sector? From this back rounds, this paper aimed at investigating the role of Artificial Intelligence in addressing the factors causing the power outages. The findings demonstrate that Artificial intelligence has the ability to enhance electricity efficiency, reliability, and transparency.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129544440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The output of these activities form a collection of unstructured data such as specifications, requirements, manuals, source code and packaging files which is stored in configuration management systems. Software repositories are infrastructures to support project management activities and can be composed with several systems that include code change management, bug tracking, code review, build system, release binaries, wikis, forums, etc. This large and variable data collection provides opportunities for text mining tasks which further can be utilized for software delivery or business intelligence related goals. The proposed approach uses machine learning methods to inspect large software repositories and classifies the results to propose insights to project managers as an aide to make strategic business decisions. In the present work every software project is described by a certain representation (vector or set of vectors), which is constructed from names and types of the files from project content. These representations are used to find clusters of similar projects in big code repositories and highlight specific properties of the found groups: most used names and types of the file.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134109895","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

More people in the Arab world than ever are using social networks and user generated content to express their thoughts and feedback on trending topics. With this increase in use, the demand has risen to be able to analyze data from social networks using the native Arabic language. Because Arabic is one of the most complex languages, this presents many challenges such as how to differentiate dialects, how to infer the semantics of sentences and even words, and what to do with the numerous diacritics involved in the language. In this paper, we discuss geo-social event detection from Arabic tweets without focusing on any dialect. We propose a hybrid learning architecture by using a deep learning model and a clustering technique to detect social events and map them to their spatial and temporal properties. Our system features a semantic keyword generation tool powered by AraBERT, which is used to prepare datasets for event classification. The classification process involves using both CNN and bidirectional LSTM techniques. To determine the location of events, we utilized a hierarchical density-based spatial clustering method. Experiments were performed on Twitter datasets to assess the system’s effectiveness and efficiency. The findings indicate that this hybrid approach for extracting spatio-temporal events is well-suited for detecting and tracking events in real-time from social media.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121926382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It serves as a virtual world that connects people socially and offers them an immersive experience. However, we lack knowledge about how users perceive this technology, particularly regarding their optimism or pessimism towards it. Of specific concern is users’ feelings about their security and privacy in the virtual world. To address this gap, we analyzed over 300,000 tweets about Metaverse, including more than 1,000 tweets that mentioned security and privacy keywords. The study aimed to understand how people perceive Metaverse security and privacy by applying sentiment analysis to the collected tweets. The results indicate that approximately 59% of users had a positive view of their security in the Metaverse, while around 66% had a positive view of their privacy. However, the study revealed that people were uncertain about these two factors and raised legal and ethical concerns about the technology. The study’s findings highlight research and practical implications for the future development of the Metaverse.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131619188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design methodology approach used in designing and gathering information is qualitative and has been divided into three critical stages; the first stage is using second-hand information that is already present in the organisation’s books; this gave me a clear depiction of how to structure my methodology. The second stage includes a framework to evaluate and analyse data and sort it so the information can follow a chronological order. The final stage confirms the choice of methodology by collecting extensive qualitative data through observation and semi-formal interviews with factory operators, managers, and researchers. The study's findings clearly depict a strong correlation between optimising 4.0 technologies and reaching production targets within the relevant range. The results show a positive influence on how the 4.0 technologies have an impact on employee satisfaction and improving the organisation’s sustainability by ensuring that proper training seminars are held on a monthly basis with the staff members so they can keep up with new 4.0 technological advancements.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132105710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
