Abstract

South Africa is in the throes of a worse electrical energy crisis. The reason to this crisis is due to the South Africa's state owned electricity utility, which is facing a relatively close hurricane of an increasing energy supply shortage, compounded by Eskom's declining generation due to more unsustainable ageing power stations, leading to spiking electricity bills. These factors are causing havoc on the economy. With the country recovering from a COVID-induced economic downturn during the last Three years. The harsh truth of the situation is disturbing, with roughly weekly power outages. The key questions must be addressed: What has been done to remedy this situation? how can the government speed up the reform of the electricity sector? From this back rounds, this paper aimed at investigating the role of Artificial Intelligence in addressing the factors causing the power outages. The findings demonstrate that Artificial intelligence has the ability to enhance electricity efficiency, reliability, and transparency.
