This capability has been called in literature Specific emitter identification, radiometric identification or RF-DNA as a conceptual link to the physical identification of human being through the DNA. As in other fields of wireless communication, deep learning has been applied to implement such capability, where it has proven an excellent performance at the cost of the need of significant computing resources and time. To address the latter problem, this paper proposes a set of pre-processing steps based on time series segmentation, feature extraction and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to reduce the data dimension given as an input to a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for classification. The proposed approach is able not only to reduce significantly the overall classification time, but it is also able to improve the classification accuracy in presence of noise in comparison to the baseline case where all the data is used.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127289013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, fog computing helps eliminate the data density bottleneck that may arise as smart city applications evolve. In this study, a fog computing-based, location-aware air quality monitoring system has been proposed, and its performance was evaluated through preliminary tests using real data. The proposed system is compared with a centralized cloud-based application scenario. The results indicate that the proposed system can serve up to 960 clients in the presence of 120 air quality monitoring stations in the established test environment. Additionally, the study revealed that the proposed model outperforms the cloud-based model in terms of latency and service load stability characteristics.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116726506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sharing radio access networks (RANs) has emerged as a promising solution since it enables operators to lower installation costs by sharing redundant and available resources. Open-RAN (O-RAN) is a new RAN framework that aims for intelligence and openness in hardware and software RAN sharing with the help of virtualization technology and disaggregated architecture of RANs. Multiple operators could coexist together and their virtualized RAN components can be deployed on each other’s computing resources. In this disaggregated architecture, MAC scheduler fundamentally governs resource allocation to users associated with a base station and resides in RAN’s distributed unit (DU) that can be virtualized and deployed on O-RAN. Traditionally, MAC scheduling is handled by static methods that makes its adaptation to dynamic environments challenging. While Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) offers a promising solution to MAC scheduling; but, a global network view is necessary for adapting new traffic patterns. However, information sharing between operators compromise privacy and competition between operators. Therefore, in this study, we explore the use of Federated learning-based DRL (FDRL) for MAC scheduling in RAN sharing in O-RAN.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129733709","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accurate and efficient detection of vehicles can improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. This paper presents a real-time vehicle detection system based on Deep Learning (DL) techniques, using the YOLOv7 object detection framework. The system was trained on a novel dataset with a diverse range of vehicles, including different sizes, orientations, and lighting conditions, to improve object detection accuracy. To reduce the required training time and computing resources, Transfer learning is utilized to fine-tune two variants of YOLOv7, YOLOv7-x and YOLOv7-tiny. The results of the experiment revealed that the YOLOv7-x achieved a mean Average Precision (mAP) rate of 96.7%, while the YOLOv7-tiny achieved 89.3%. Furthermore, when the models were fed with a video stream, the YOLOv7-tiny achieved 57 Frames Per Second (FPS), whereas the YOLOv7-x achieved 27 FPS. As a result, the YOLOv7-tiny is more suitable for resource-constrained devices, such as those frequently utilized in IoT applications, due to its smaller model size, lower computational requirements, and higher FPS rate with acceptable accuracy. On the other hand, if higher accuracy is the priority, the YOLOv7-x model should be considered. The proposed frameworks help to improve the effectiveness of traffic management systems, leading to more efficient and sustainable transportation in smart cities.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"701 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123832480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For example, fitness equipment can now perform new functions such as shopping or purchasing train tickets using contactless payments. Furthermore, fitness trackers gather a variety of personal data, including body temperature, pulse rate, eating habits, body weight, steps, distance travelled, calories burned, and sleep stage. Although these devices can be helpful to customers, more and more publications are warning about the cybersecurity threats they pose and the potential for them to be hijacked and used as launching grounds for other systems. Furthermore, because of their wireless broadcasts, these devices might be vulnerable to a malicious attack, exposing the data they gather. In addition, these devices are vulnerable due to a lack of authentication, Bluetooth connection difficulties, location monitoring, and third-party vulnerabilities. The purpose of this article is to offer consumers cybersecurity recommendations so that they may take precautions when using fitness devices.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114554631","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes a solution in the form of a deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) designed for 3D structural topology optimization, which predicts a structurein a relatively short amount of time without employing any iterative strategy. The methodology was created to empower users to incorporate a machine-learning approach to topology optimization in their designs while enabling the non-iterative strategy and increasing the efficiency of the process. The proposed approach is anticipated to significantly reduce computational time while improving the printed component’sstructural performance and design quality. This study offers a new perspective on topology optimization in 3D printing andhighlights the potential of machine learning in advancing theefficiency and precision of this process. The outcomes of this study illustrate that the proposed model possesses the capacity to conduct topology optimization of the cantilever beam structureat a significantly accelerated pace, as compared to specialized software showing a reduction in computation time, amounting to approximately 99%. These results hold promising implications for the time-critical engineering and optimization processes.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"161 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124508750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is an ongoing, widespread problem where waiting for medicine takes too long, so some people get tired of waiting and leaving. This problem is common in many countries worldwide. In order to combat this problem, ‘Robpha’ has created machines that are able to cut the waiting time considerably shorter and make obtaining patients’ medicines a much easier and faster process. The methodologies that were used for these products were the I-teams challenge and design thinking. The products are machines that are used to speed up the process of getting medicine. It readies the prescribed medicine once the doctor prescribes it in the system, and the patients can receive it once they reach the pharmacy without waiting too long. Moreover, the hand collector machine can select an alternate, similar medicine to replace a medicine that is not available, and a robot collects the products and gathers them into the machine box. Furthermore, the machine box makes paying for and receiving medicine and a doctor’s note easier. The study concluded with some recommendations for further research and development.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126410178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data generated by & typical resource-constrained nature of IoT devices also attract malicious adversaries to launch sophisticated DoS/DDoS attacks that consequently overwhelm the targeted device/network. The situation demands a lightweight IDS optimized for resource consumption while being effective in identifying traditional as well as novel attacks. This paper presents a lightweight Intrusion Detection System (Li-IDS) based on filter selection for IoT environments. The model first conducts a preliminary search to rank each feature, utilizing SelectKBest with a chi-square feature selection approach. Thereafter, to build a list of the most appropriate features, the highest-ranked features are one by one applied to train and evaluate the Machine Learning (ML) models. The model is evaluated on the TON-IoT dataset using six distinct ML models. The evaluation metrics including accuracy, FNR, FPR, training and testing time as well as CPU, and memory usage reveal that the proposed approach is lightweight, adaptive, and efficient enough to be deployed in resource-limited IoT systems.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133996574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SCADA is an example of an OT that must be managed by a utility so that the electricity system runs properly. The electricity utility must guarantee the availability and reliability of the electricity supplied, including IT and OT systems. This system must be equipped with appropriate cyber security methods in order for IT and OT to remain reliable. Based on previous research, it is necessary to apply a method to separate IT, OT, and public area networks. One method that has been applied before is the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) method, which aims to separate the OT network from the IT network. DMZ development can be in the form of a Dual Firewall DMZ, with the use of front-end and back-end firewalls. To improve this aspect of cyber security, Indonesian electricity utilities apply a more advanced method called Dual DMZ Firewall Architecture Method. Dual DMZ functions to separate between IT and OT networks and between IT and Wide Area Network (WAN). Based on the test results, the implementation of Dual DMZ can guarantee a more reliable level of IT and OT security that supports electricity systems in Indonesia. Implementation of dual DMZ can reduce high severity threats up to 99.98%, vulnerabilities up to 99,98% and spyware up to 100%. Dual DMZ implementation also reduces fraud and exploit kit threats up to 100% and code execution up to 99.98%.","PeriodicalId":301834,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets)","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134210963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper proposes a hybrid recommender system using content and collaborative filtering techniques. In the first phase, the content of the tweets is captured and processed via clustered Bert and word2vec models. These models work on clustering the tweet embeddings generated from Bert and Word2vec models giving out tweet clusters as an output. In the second phase, Collaborative filtering algorithms is then used to recommend tweets to a user based on the historic tweet cluster of interest of the user. The work uses Agglomerative and Kmeans clustering algorithms to cluster similar tweets together.
